Quick decant and followed for 2 hrs. TINY petillance, not unlike young Beaux Freres. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, and plum with baking spices just flow and glide and caress! Now-2030!

4/26/23, 7:30 PM - So much bottle variation with these. We had a 2016 that was transcendant.

Reading the notes below, this wine is obviously polarizing. Or there's serious bottle variation; a batch with ultra-light TCA perhaps?
As someone who has taken decades to come around and appreciate Italian wines and their ACIDITY, I'm still surprised when I enjoy one like this. I've also learned to never taste these next to a big fruity New World wine.
Splash decanted 1/2 hr before dinner and served in Riedel Pinot glasses. With time and coaxing, there's bright red cherry, spice, leather and floral notes that carry to the palate. Really lovely with prosciutto and cheese ravioli. Backbone of acidity and tannins asks for food, it's not a sipper. Really good QPR. Longer decant or wait: 2024-2028.

Good, but not as smooth as other years I've had at this time point. Maybe just a massive year and need a little more time?

1/29/23, 5:11 PM - Thanks I hope to some day, I just started getting this in 2012...

Still really good. In a great place

Fantastic. Really nice red fruit nose with a long finish. Wonderful.

8/7/21, 10:59 AM - Unfortunately brought to a restaurant so basically pnp. Just got better, would have opened it 1-2 hrs ahead at home.

Lyon 2021 Birthday Bash; 5/14/2021-5/15/2021 (Bear Creek Woodward/Lyon Den): This bottle was spot on. Coffee and dark fruit, with cassis at the forefront. Good structure for 20 year old Napa blend. Tannins were soft, with a loooong finish, which made it my WOTN. I don't think it could have drank better at a different point in its evolution, just differently.

5/16/21, 8:44 PM - We opened this about an hour before drinking, and enjoyed over about 4 hours. It certainly did not fall off during that time...

Oh so good. Great with a washed rind.

11/5/20, 7:44 PM - soft ripened washed rind cheese. a bit stinky, nutty flavor

DenTinJaMa Inaugural (Chateau Lyon): Also a 3 hour decant and moderate sediment. This was way better than 5.5 years ago! An immediate nose and the same velvety texture as in 11/2013. Currants, blackberry, mocha, cedar, tobacco, and wet stone persist. Not quite a winegasm, but close. Still has 4-5 years.
  • jkwoodward commented:

5/27/19, 9:12 PM - I brought you this bottle! Should have dropped the $50 for the 2013 tasting and kept it I guess!

Surprisingly fresh and tannic. An hour decant was perfect. Brick colored rim, still dark in the glass. Classic notes of cedar and graphite. Well integrated. Not sure it can get much better. Excellent.

I think one of the newer vintage as the label said "rare liqueur tokay". Nonetheless, absolutely fantastic. Bursting with toffee, coffee, raisins and nuts, probably the longest finishing wine experienced to date. Can still tast it 10 or 15 min later I problem. Just awesome.
  • jkwoodward commented:

10/4/15, 2:48 PM - Sorry, it said "rare liqueur tokay" instead of "rare tokay" as some other bottles do. They are the same labels. I have some of both label types.

Wine night with Joe and Kyla (Joe's Bar and Grill): Decanted 7hrs ahead, this wine has a medium garnet color and an open nose. Ripe red and black fruit with hints of kelp, underbrush, and spice. A really smooth texture and glorious finish that just lingers like a TSA line. Now-2025!
  • jkwoodward commented:

2/10/15, 3:11 PM - I wished they passed this out in the TSA line. It was fantastic! What a night!
