My last bottle of many since 2016...already great but even better!! An excellent vintage...delicious! Not too sweet, not too heavy, not too powerful...smooth and perfect balance of fruit and spices. Really enjoyable. Well-done with an excellent QPR. 92+

Dark and savoury with black olive, new leather and withered berry nose. Very good flavours and presence; well-balanced finish.

Cotes de Bordeaux Trip; 7/23/2019-7/27/2019: A bit more concentrated on the nose but still all red fruit, with menthol, incense and floral potpourri notes. Medium tannins, plush texture, medium acidity. Red plums and juicy cherries with menthol, pepper, mint, earth. Pretty but complex. 2016 – I am loving this vintage so much, and this wine overdelivers for the price point. Merlot with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

10/11/19, 5:34 AM - I assume you meant to say that the wine has 10% Malbec in the blend, am I correct?

Showing really well, I’m going back for a case at <13€/ bottle. Cherry/cassis/olive/mint at first opening, umami comes out with air, Tannins start slightly clunky but they round out after about an hour, finishes with decent length. Medium bodied, this comes off as a more moderate, almost feminine style. Sleek, nimble, well composed and very well made.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

3/24/19, 11:30 AM - Is the 2009 vintage of this wine still for sale where you live?

  • mikeinottawa commented:

    3/24/19, 11:46 AM - Wow and at 13 euros can’t go wrong

Alc. 14 %. Sucre 2,9 g/l.
19,75 $ à la SAQ.

This fortified wine is made with Merlot, Cabernets, and Shiraz grapes for Niagara Peninsula barrel-aged for six years. It is not your classic red Porto style dessert wine; rather it is a lighter, fragrant style on its own.

Aromas of red fruit jams, pecan pie, and oxidized wine. The mouth feels surprising crisper than expected due to a good acidity, and the Bordeaux blend structure shows through the silky sweet flavours of caramel toffee, roated nuts, and fruit cake.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

12/17/16, 11:49 AM - The 2012 Forte was only aged for 3 years in oak.

Produced from the outstanding 2012 vintage, this elegant dessert wine was aged in oak barrels for 3 years. It is complex, well-balanced and pairs nicely with strong cheeses and orchard fruits or is an excellent after-dinner treat on its own.

This $10 wine is aged in Bourbon barrels which gives it a unique, soft flavor. We liked it enough to go back and get a case but the unique flavor means it's not for everyone. We would NOT take it to a party.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

12/18/16, 7:00 AM - this review should be moved to the bourbon barrel listing for this wine?

A generic Bordeaux from a fantastic vintage, and for only $47cad in BC. (The most expensive place to buy wine) Nose of underbrush, candied plum and blueberry. Palate is nice with notes licorice and mocha.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

9/7/16, 8:56 AM - Just for information this was $34.75 in Quebec all in and is being released on Sept 17 in Ontario for $39.95 all in.

Mid yellow hue. Smells of tropical fruit mainly, with a herbaceous note. Light to medium palate. Initially tastes a little sweet, but this reflects the generosity of fruit. It's certainly dry and fresh. There's a hint of bitterness on the short finish.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

9/2/16, 6:14 AM - Cork closure, that is interesting my bottles are all screw cap.

Des fruits rouges avec des notes épicées. Une belle intensité fruitée bâti sur des tanins bien enrobés avec une bonne persistance en bouche. Joli vin gourmand à prix correct !

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral, stoniness, blackberry, red currant, black currant (cassis), violet and rose. It tastes like mint, lavender, thyme, red currant, black currant (cassis), blackberry, pine and bark. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.
  • mikeinottawa commented:

7/3/16, 6:31 PM - This wine is not yet in bottle, it will not be released until the spring of 2018.

On the nose, definitely starting to pick up that 'aged' smell. Some balsamic notes with herbs and red fruit. On the palate, good acidity and tannins are integrating nicely. Medium body. Eucalyptus, herbs, and cherry. Comes across a little bit hot giving that cherry cough syrup effect but it's not that bad. Good depth of fruit and this wine could probably go for another few years. At this price point this wine is a winner and is really great with food. Glad I have more.

Nice. Similar to last note. Slightly acidic upon opening but with an hour or two of air, the wine became much rounder. Tasty and such an excellent qpr. No doubt its origins. Will develop nicely.
