2011 Cappellano Barolo Piè Rupestris Otin Fiorin (Gabutti) Nebbiolo
7/21/2020 - SARED Likes this wine:
93 points
93-94. On PNP a clear 94+. Straight from the wine fridge at 55 degrees. Big aromatics. The alcohol is there, but is buried nicely below the fruit and layers of dark savory and herbal complexity (e.g., rose petals, lavender/sage). Over time the wine picks up warmth and the complexity loses a little edge to the alcohol which becomes more prominent. 92? So overall a 93-94. With a recommendation for drinking on the cooler end of the cellar. Paired very well with cumin lamb and turnip/kale/balsamic side. The other diner scored it 95+, i.e. "do you have more?"

7/22/20, 6:58 AM - Of the last 6 or 7 vintages for Cappellano, I think this is probably the best candidate to be drinking now or in the near future, although I'm confident the wines will age for quite some time. For me, this is because of the alcohol level, as also noted by SARED.

2010 Nikolaihof Riesling Reserve Steiner Hund Wachau
Did not decant, immediately open and beautiful on the nose, fresh apricots. Expands over a half hour and shows more complexity and detail, also showing lemongrass and wet stone and lactic scents. So much power on the nose and also such grace, really a beautiful nose. It all carries over to the palate, which is perfectly balanced and powerful but without any excess weight. Great wine.
