This has evolved nicely with more prominent black pepper notes and iron intermingled with tart cherry fruit, herbs and earth. Dry, fine tannins, moderate acidity and ending with a medium finish.

I am amazed how many people have tasted this wine of this now defunct producer. I was also amazed to find this enjoyable wine in NYC for the ridiculously low price of $62. This has everything I love about aged Riesling. Colour is a fairly dark yellow as you'd expect; on the nose there is a lot of telltale petrol and flint followed by some really nice stone fruits, very typical of a spatlase. Acidity is fairly mild, it has integrated into the wine very well at this point. Not sure why this seems to be the only year this wine was made but if you can find it (and apparently a lot of people can) it's a very enjoyable experience.

If you think $62 is a good price...
