Grapes coming from the south-facing Hermannshöhle vineyard at 130-175m above sea level with soil composed mostly of black slate and limestone. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and traditional German barrels.
First sip thanks to Coravin. Shiny brass in colour reflecting elegant scents of honeysuckle along with lime and tangerine. Nervy and vigorous maintaining a subtle elegance. Charms with the arresting purity of its fruit and charged with energising acidity. Very long life ahead.

Kölnisch Wasser. And scents of honeysuckle. Mouth-watering with a long, lingering aftertaste.

Ruby colour with a brick rim. Rich and compelling on the nose exhibiting an array of aromas from earth, coffee and leather to tobacco, olives and dark black berries. Broad and generous on the palate with harmony and real elegance. Rather smoky with graphite undertones this floats gently on the palate and lasts long with an alluring finish.

From Hakan Özdemir's well-kept cellar. Tasted double-blind.
Ruby in colour fading at the rim. Nicely perfumed exhibiting strawberry marmelade and sugar candy aromas with earthy accents. Packed with limpid fruit flavours and bracing acidity this has a caressing mouth-feel with feathery tannins and good persistence.

1/26/16, 12:56 AM - This was kept really well and still showed fruit rather than the savoury aromas I had in my previous tastings. I agree that this is most probably the peak.

Grapes coming from La Plana vineyard with vines over 80 years old. Blend of 89% Tempranillo with 11% Mazuelo. Aged for 30 months in 225 liter oak barrels and a further 36 months in bottle before its release.
Dark ruby colour with purple highlights. Mix of black cherry and black mulberry fruit with lots of black pepper notes as well as leather and wet leaves. Rich, supple, velvety and very classy.

The wine is clear and bright with a deep garnet colour and presence of legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium(+) intensity aromas of sour cherries, dry figs, anise, nail varnish remover and hints of clove and cedar. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium acidity. It has high coarse tannins and a high warm alcohol. It has a full body and medium(+) intensity flavours of sour cherries, dry figs, anise, nail varnish remover and hints of clove and cedar. The finish is medium(+).

It is a very good quality wine. It has a very nice fruit concentration and a good finish. It also has a nice balance between tannins and alcohol, and some degree of complexity provided by spicy notes, but not enough to consider it outstanding. Can drink now, but it has enough tannic structure and fruit concentration to develop some more complex tertiary aromas in the next 3-5 years.

Amber with orange highlights. Amazing nose with quince marmelade and dried apricots layered with orange peel and linden. Alluring, so unctuous, so creamy yet so well accompanied by its zesty fruit and mouth-watering acidity. Such a great wine.

Deep ruby with a charming crimson rim. Very deceptive nose early on with prominent coffee aromas as well as bitter chocolate masking the black fruity core and steering me towards the new world in blind tasting. Oak driven now on the palate with firm, even drying tannins that tend to soften in a few hours time. Bitter on the aftertaste. Too early to drink. If you still want to, at least two hours in the decanter will pay off.

This bottle is probably from the late 1980's allegedly kept in good conditions. Yet, amber in colour with the mousse almost faded away and oxidative aromas and flavours overwhelming. Have we been too late or not cellared it properly at some stage?
  • Umay Ceviker commented:

6/21/14, 4:50 AM - Apparently, that is the case. I was just excited since this bottle came from a cellar that gifted us last year a Dom Perignon 1985! Many thanks for your comment.

This is a Tempranillo dominated blend with the 20% that remains composed of Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. The wine was aged for 36 months in oak as well as another 36 months (minimum) in bottle.
Deep, inky ruby with maroon highlights. The nose is tight at the start revealing dark black fruit, chocolate and spice under a frame of tar. Deep and very focused on the palate with mouth-coating extract and creamy texture yet elegantly structured. Dark fruit with smokey accents in the long, graceful aftertaste.

Dark ruby with brick highlights. Tight at the very start, the nose easily opens up to display liqueur like aromas of cassis and damson along with mocha, licorice and a touch of sweet spice. Some floral accents like violets add up to its complexity. As the nose also suggests, this is bold and still a bit aggressive, almost spirity making me think in blind tasting that this is from the New World.
  • Umay Ceviker commented:

9/18/13, 11:14 PM - I enjoyed the wine when I tasted it for the first and only time back in 2011. I do not enjoy big, bold wines much but I guess it is 'when' that matters for a wine like the Pavie 2003. I may have not liked it at all if I tasted it in say 2005.

Brick coloured with pronounced and layered aromas of prune, earth and leather along with sweet spices, raisins and balsamic accents. Graceful and such a joy to drink with an enticing concentration and a long, caressing finish.
  • Umay Ceviker commented:

9/18/13, 11:02 PM - No, I would not say that it is nearing its end as it still had a good concentration when I tasted it back in 2011. It may just not develop further into a better, more pleasing wine than it is now.
