Part of a Talbot vertical (67, 79, 81, 96). Cork 3/4 saturated. Surprisingly robust for this vintage, tight from the start with heavy alcohol and spice up front. Surprisingly, opened up nicely 15-30 minutes in. Cedar, moss, clay, oriental spice and a hint of camphor. Pleasantly surprised by the 79, not quite as balanced as 81 in this tasting.

Part of Talbot vertical 67, 79, 81, 96. Extremely well balanced. My favorite of the group. Classic Talbot characteristics of tobacco, leather, ripe dark plum, clay and a hint of dirty straw (the good type of dirty, like the bits of straw with dust on it that is left on your clothes after sitting in a barn). A slight bit less robust than the last 1981 I tried 4 years ago. Likely waning out of it's drinking window.

Part of vertical Talbot tasting. Slow out of the gate, but opened up at 50 minutes of decant and peaking 120 minutes into decant. Dark black cherry and blackberry fruit with graphite and cedar. Nice evolution of this bottle over time.

Past it's prime. A bit thin. Dark fruit predominant with plum predominant. Somewhat figgy as well. Eucalyptus notes. Drank with beautiful roasted chicken legs, portobella mushrooms and grilled corn. Was a delightful pairing. Enjoyed with friend Michael N on his visit. Not much evolution over an hour of decant.

It was a nice time going through this bottle with my friend Michael N. Optimal drinking 30-45 minutes from decant, with roundess of red fruit, cherry predominant, tannin and alcohol. Good strong minerality, tobacco, leather and dry clay notes. Graphite developing towards the end of it's evolution. A pleasure to drink. Probably would not hold these bottles much longer.

Ruby with some bricking. Out of the gate was quite strong on the nose and unidimensional, nearly bracing. With a 20 minute decant, it opened up nicely with warm Michigan cherries, cassis, cranberry. At a 45 minute decant it continued to develop with notes of mole, raisin and a flirting hint of grapefruit and red roses. Fell off precipitously an hour and a half in. Great example of a dynamic bottle that is drinking well when presented at it's best.
