A good well made wine. The fruit was very much in the background. Secondary flavors were muted too. Tanin was present but mellowed. I unfortunately did not have a satisfactory food pairing. With a sous vide salt and pepper red pork rib I suspect I would have raved about this wine... As it was I abandoned the bottle after 1 1/2 glasses.

I liked it and Christy loved it.

Blackberry, cocoa, and nutmeg. Soft chalky tannin still present with a good amount of fruit still left.

Wine was put in a decanter and consumed over three or four hours. It never faded or lost it's appeal. Thrilled to have four more of these.

One of the better vintages of this wine I have had. It is drinking beautifully currently and is nicely balanced.

I really liked this wine and picked up a 6 liter of it from the winery since my last tasting note. Enjoyed it with friends about two weeks ago and it was drinking beautifully. Was wine of the night for many and it was put up against some great wines from Cayuse and others.

Drinking well now but plenty of life left. Tannin is still present but nicely integrated. Had lovely mild funk that was supported by a touch of blood like saline. Black and blue fruits are the core.

A good solid wine that is well made. Paired nicely with a Ribeye as it still has some tannin to play with the fat. The most remarkable thing to me is that writing this note the day after there is little to remember about this wine. I don't recall any vivid smells or flavors.

I will use the next bottle when the focus is a nice steak and not intended to be the bottle of wine.

Ended up really liking this wine. Bought from the tasting room to avoid the tasting fee... was not impressed on release.

Now with 9 years on it the wine is ready. Smells like wet concrete. Cherry flavor with a lite leather note. Abruptly ends with a lite mineral finish. And for the third time in this review it has a lite mouth feel.

Will make it a point to revisit this tasting room.

Big wine with many years left in it. I wish I had another to try five years from now. Shame that they won't be getting the Dubrul fruit any more. Cherry, cinnamon and coffee on the palette with plenty of tannins left in the finish.

Kind of surprised not to see any notes; sorry this one is going to be of limited value to third parties. This was a smooth wine with a rich full mouth feel. A definite qpr wine.

Awesome wine that paired well with steak. Very well balanced. I think current drinking windows are very compressed. With two bottles to go won't touch the next one for seven years.

One of the best Syrah's I have had in years. Silky smooth boysenberry.

Floral on the nose and grapefruit on the palate.

This wine was incredibly fruit forward. The tannin on the tail end leaves me wondering what these do with age. I guess that I am in for a second year of buying. That said this was a much bigger pinot than I am accustomed to. Definitely was more enjoyable with some cured meats and cheeses.

Rich and slutty was my first impression. A very full round month feel with green apple and butterscotch. Quite happy with this bottle and would purchase it again.

Paired this with almonds, olives and a ribeye. Big bold wine that paired well with fats.

Strawberry and cola flavors. Lighter in weight than the Rochioli.

No notes. A wonderful glass of wine. Well balanced floral on the nose with cola flavors.
Red
Sweet and sour with an alcohol heat and cherry flavor. Smooth with integrated tannins.

Green on the nose. Legs running fairly slow. Boysenberry rhubarb flavors with sweet blue fruit start going quickly to the rhubarb tart. Wife described color as a nice shade of lipstick for Betty Page; fades quickly to opaque in less than a centimeter from edge... perhaps the color of plum flesh to something darker and smokier.

Nice bottle. Smooth soft supple mouth feel. Very integrated sweet fig and black fruit flavors. No tannin or oak perceived. Slight green cooking spice... maybe bay leaves.

Not what we were wanting. Kind of sad that we have two more bottles. Very weird on the mid-palette. Not what I have come to expect from Waters. Menthol with a strange acerbic note... and lots of flat fruit.

My palette has shifted away from this style. A very good bottle that was silky in texture, slightly sweet without raison or prune flavors. Much enjoyed but may have preferred an awfe pinot. Next time I will pair with a southern style mustard and vinegar BBQ pork rib.

Had an extremely ripe prune flavor with a high alcohol heat. Was full but thin in texture. Did not meet expectations for price point.

This bottle was a gift to commemorate a birthday. After being allowed to rest for 9 months in the cellar we opened last night. The fill level was bottom of the neck. There was no evidence of past seepage and the cork was level with the neck. When using the two prong opener the cork began to push; having a grip on about half the cork I tried pulling and split the cork. The remaining half ended up pushed into the bottle. The wine was then screened into a decanter.

The wine was translucent but cloudy like a raspberry ice tea with a slight orange tinge. The nose had sweetness likripeneded fruit with a soft floral note. On tasting it was very much alive with pleasing amount of complexity. The tannins were integrated. The mouth feel was soft and round. There was an soft delicate astringent quality that played very well with our food pairings (olives, salami and triple cream.)

Definitely enjoyed the experience. It is was a good and unique wine and I am looking forward to my cellar gaining some age.

What a great experience. I rarely open a 40 year old bottle and so was very pleased to find that this wine had a lot of life left in it. On opening it had strong cocoa odor and flavor. We left it to slow oxidize for about an hour and came back to a thinner sharper wine with a hint of prune; not the direction we were hoping for. Gave it about another hour and the fruit flavors came back as did a grippy chalkiness and cocoa. Over the next two hours the wine was strong and complimented a pizza well. It played with the yeast of the doe, the sweet acid of the tomato, the oils of the sausage, etc... this wine was great with food. We ended with a chocolate pairing that was sublime. Worth noting that the bottle had been stood up for about a month. As we drank it became more opaque with with first a brickish tone and then a darker hue.

Don't know what happenned with this one... very strong and sharp green flavors. It mellowed with some air time; but I was unhappy with the bottle.

I like this wine more than a 90 point score may lead some to believe. I first tasted it on a trip to Napa while dining at Redd. I liked it enough that I ordered three off of the website. This is my first tasting since that experience.

It is heavily oak-ed with strong flavors of brown cooking spices (nutmeg and clove??). The mouth feel was round and soft.

It reminds me of a 2008 Elevation Cabernet Sauvignon out of Wooden Ville. The difference being that this has a softer fuller mouth feel and is not as thin on the finish. Two non-wine drinking friends liked it very much, so I would call it a crowd pleaser.

Had another bottle last Sunday. I very much enjoyed it but it did not evoke the very strong emotions of my first experience. The wine definitely gets better with some warmth and air time. The last pours seemed to pick up a huge amount of sediment as I wasn't paying attention when pouring. Overall smooth, clean across the palate, with blueberries and earthy leathery undertones. After the sediment was stirred up it had a funky sticky finish.

flawed
Would have rated this bottle much lower than the first. Bottle may have been flawed. It was certainly not drunk in ideal conditions. Served way to cold the day after it was shipped. Flavours were tight and sour with the odor of wet laundry left in the machine a couple of days. It improved appreciably as it warmed and was exposed to air.

Slightly funky and incredibly smooth. I had picked up three bottles based on a strong review in a local magazine; and the fact that I have previously enjoyed wines from Waters. When we had the first one both my wife and I thought it was the wine of the night... possibly the year. I was holding this review because I wanted to ensure I could get more; now that the winery has confirmed they will ship my order tomorrow, I am happy to share a recommendation to try this wine. This is the first wine I have ordered a case of and I am thrilled to know that I have fourteen bottles to ration over the next five to seven years. I hope that if you try this based on this recommendation you will find it as wonderful as my wife and I did.

flawed
The cork was soaked all the way through and crumbled on extraction due to its softness. A small sip was poured and the wine was declared as intact, but I did not taste. The wine was allowed to slowly oxygenate in the bottle for 4 hours at 63 degrees. Upon serving it was an utter disappointment. The only thing left was an after taste of grippy tanin. It was weak and flabby with little to no flavor.
