Purchased three bottles while in Piemonte, this was the first bottle. Drank with some family members, wanted them to taste a nice Barbaresco and I wanted to get a better sense of where the wine is at in its aging process (originally tasted at enoteca La Vita Turchese in Barolo 4/2/23). Opened three hours prior to drinking. The wine as it is today is a very nice example of a Barbaresco, it does not have the massive tannins associated with some barolos but does have delicious complexity and pleasing balance. That said, the tannins are still there, it is still a young wine. I am going to put the other two bottles in storage and let them sleep for several years. Maybe try the next one in 2028. Very happy to have two more bottles of this in the cellar. My cost including shipping from Italy is about $75. Which also makes it a decent value for what you get. I am becoming a fan of the winery Ugo L Equio. Good wine, good value seems to be a recurring theme when I taste their wine. I'm calling this wine a 91 on a hard grading scale. Might pick up a point or two as it develops over time.

6/20/23, 6:37 AM - Thank you for your post. We visited Ugo Lequio in October, 2021. We were blown away by his wines, and the fact that he practically single-handedly produces them. We also purchased 4 bottles of the 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Gallina, three of which are resting in the cellar. We also bought 4 bottles each of his 2017 Barbera d'Alba Superiore (which is phenomenal) and his 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo. If we don't make it back to Italy when these are gone, I'll have to try to order more. He is that good.

In-Store Tasting (Some really bad wines) (Bloomington, MN): Never liked this Rhone blend and this vintage does not help. Very little to this wine with earth, some fruit and a touch of spice. There are so many better Rhone options for less money.

12/30/22, 5:32 PM - I have been buying this for 6.79 for an okay Rhone. I would love to see your list of better Rhones for less money.

12/31/22, 10:47 AM - I also buy the Cosme CdR, the 100% Syrah, at $14.98 which I agree is a better wine. Unfortunately Columbia, MO where I live which is in many ways a great city, is an imported wine desert. You can buy wine at grocery stores, Target, Walmart, gas stations, drug stores, but they all sell the same wines focusing on high residual sugar reds and sweet whites mostly under $15. So it takes effort to find good imports at good prices.

I retired in 2004. Worked as a wine consultant at Surdyk's for six years and then moved to Missouri. Married a lady who was as interested in wine as I was.

2011 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon Chardonnay
I found this on closeout in a local store for $25. Beautiful Chardonnay with a bit more citrus and mineral than most white Burgundy. But it was a truly graceful wine, smooth on the palate, and with a long finish.

10/18/18, 2:27 PM - Unfortunately, this was a one-time shot. The manager of a local store was having a Black Friday sale two years ago and put several bottles out that were sitting on the shelves taking up space. I was the second person in the door when the store opened. I scored about $1200 worth of wine for less than $300 including 2 bottles of 2009 Mas de Boislauzon Cuvee de Quet and a 2009 Torbreck RunRig for $25 each.

This is a second, independent tasting note for this wine & vintage that I last rated, at 83, in February 2017; by chance, that rating and the current rating of 88 average to 85, the same average for the 12 reviewers of this vintage; in stating the alcohol content (13.5%) I notice that a decimal comma ('French style') was used on the (poorly applied) front label and a decimal period (('English style') on the rear -- suggesting carelessness in label design and at the bottling plant; the winery recommends letting the wine stand for one hour before serving; after the Vinturi, I waited 20 minutes and served the wine at ca 13 C; notes of earth, minerals, pleasant fruit (prunes, cherries, peaches); tannins a little stronger than the fruit -- especially at the back of the throat, no bitterness, finish does not linger, pair with filet mignon

1/21/18, 7:00 AM - The difference in the two labels that you point out may be due to the front label being one that is universal to all places to which the wine is shipped and the back label being specific to bottles being shipped to the United States.

An excellent Langhe Nebbiolo for the price. A great choice if you can't afford to drink Barbaresco every night.

2012 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
We opened the first bottle of a case purchased in January, 2015 at the Repertory Theater tasting in St. Louis. Already this is amazing, phenomenal, really good. It has dark fruit, a hint of licorice, earth, spice, that is to say, everything that one would want in a Chateauneuf du Pape. I will try to force myself to only open one or two a year to see how it develops, but it will be difficult to wait.

3/26/16, 5:59 PM - By the way, I don't give scores on the 100 point scale. Why? Because it's a ridiculous exercise. But I would give this a 4 on the Clydesdale scale. That's how many Clydesdales it would take to pull a glass of this from my hand.

Love this wine. Drank my last bottle of a case bought on futures for $325. One of the best buys of my life, save the 2000 Carruades.

11/15/14, 8:31 AM - I actually split the case with my son. I'm such a good dad.
