old school. beautiful and elegant texture. think it needs a lot more bottle time.

this is a fabulous shiraz that is quite elegant, much more finesse than the typical jammy over extracted shiraz that I am used to. it emphasizes nicely balanced earth notes and chocolate to go along with the typical big and bold spicy fruits. medium to full body. I enjoyed this a lot more than any recent Australian shiraz that I have had.

just a beautiful elegant pinot. light bodied. fresh and energetic and lively with sweet rasberries, floral elements, wild berries. juicy and warm finish. well balanced. really fantastic pinot.

2005 Lapostolle Clos Apalta Colchagua Valley Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Much more developed than when i last had it about 3 years ago.
decanted. very long legs reflecting 15% alcohol content. deep opaque and black with a short deep garnet border. nose of deep dark fruits, peppers, raspberries, currants. body is medium to full. on the palate this wine excels with deep dark fruits, pepper, currants. finishes very long and spicy with just a hint of heat. this is a big and bold wine but it really shows elegant restraint. very long chewy finish. Feels like a high end elegant restrained shiraz.

lovely pinot with exceptional restrained, soft, luxurious balance. extremely long warm finish. however, i was not blown away by this wine. i got as gift. i could not possibly justify the cost. enjoy the oregon pinot style much more. would call this wine "lovely" but would not call it delicious.

aerated and decanted. closed up at first with virtually no fruit, just pure soil and mold and leather. with time it opened up nicely. nose of mold, leather, soil, chocolate, typical bordeaux moldiness. palate of leather, cassis, mold, soil, chocolate and in the mid palate it finally bursts open with lovely floral and berry notes. medium body. the finish is the best thing about this wine. extremely long and nicely rounded out with some sweet and sour fruits. overall, however, this wine is just too "soily" and "moldy" and sour for my taste.
Red
2008 Orin Swift Saldo California Zinfandel Blend, Zinfandel (view label images)
aerated through vinturi aerator into decanter. this baby was a huge, bold, fruit forward bomb but nice rounded medium to full body with nice structured spice, chocolate. this finish on this baby was at least 30 seconds. early on in the night it was a bit hot with alcohol but this rounded out nicely with time. this baby was just a monster. huge long finish.

popped and poured. really enjoyed this and yet i think it would be much better with decanting. a ultra soft luxuriously smooth chianti that is light to medium body, emphasizes soft cherry notes. very very soft with soft warm finish with very little bite or sourness.

deep dark chocolate, tobacco notes. certainly not fruit forward at all. finishes a bit hot. it may be over the hill perhaps at this point. the dark fruits are fading. enjoyable. drink up.

A big massive mother load of a wine. One of the biggest baddest wines u will ever taste. Massive dense dark fruit with dark cola notes now. Memorable.

Deep dark fruit, rich inky fruit with some chocolate. Medium to full. Has a very long finish. A bit disjointed by healthy aggressive tannic structure. Perhaps it should be cellared or decanted for a long while to soften this up.

great pinot. deep dark purple with nice layering. medium to almost full body. much fuller than typical pinot. emphasizes dark, earthy, gaminess with nice fruits of ruby red, dark cherries. showing its age. the fruits have become much more muted at this time. a really elegant deep full pinot. definitely is on the tail end of its life.

color is inky black dark purple. nose of licorice and dark berries and tar. body is medium. on the palate there are warm layers of dark fruit, vanilla, and it finishes with nice crisp tannins which then transforms nicely to a very long lasting snappy cherry finish that lasts for 30 seconds. this is what i remember most about this wine. sour tannins followed by a beautiful cherry finish. loved this wine.

light purple hue with a nice extended border showing its age. medium legs. no brick or brown hues.
the nose emphasizes perfumed floral elements with dark blackberries and dark rasberries. palate is similar with dark fruits and it is just so nice and light and sort of airy on the palate. just lovely finesse and silky round texture. medium body. i don't get an abundance of eartth or tar or smoke on the palate but there is some of that in the background. nicely balanced. finish is warm and delicious and mediium in legnth. really enjoyable. not a super blockbuster but close.

deep crimson red. nose has juicy ripe plums, but muted coffee and chocolate also. the palate is all together much more explosive than the nose. explosive jammy plum, strawberry, layers of oak. body is medium to full. there is some tangy heat and tangy acidity with a plush round mouthfeel. it excels on the finish with a long long crisp warm fruit and vanilla. very legnthy finish is what i will remember. slightly dominated by heat and crisp acidity. will cellar the other bottle. hopefully will soften up in years to come.

impressive. very tiny bubbles. nose is pineapple, coconut, butter and oak and floral elements and citrus elements. body is full. on the palate there is butter, oak, pineapple and a very long finish with a snappy acidity and a bit of anise and citrus. the acidity was at first sharp but rounded out and opened up with time the wine developed nicely and opened up a bit.

deep crimson red with juicy juicy nose of fresh ripe vibrant expressive fruit. body is medium to heavy. on the palate there is explosive over the top jammy candied plum, strawberry, very ripe fruit with good tangy acidity and some nice layers of oak too. finish is warm and long with a nice crispness.
i hope with some bottle time the fruit bomb qualities will calm down a bit and allow the other elements to wind into shape.

much better than at last tasting. it has softened up alot. dense cherries, light body, nice sour acidity on the finish but much softer than previously. crisp. definitely a wine that is great for italian food in that it needs the acidity of the food to soften it. would not particularly enjoy this alone.
nice elegant light body.
