Drank this as we settled into our seats; good pick-me-up, prepping us for a decadent evening.

Showy out of the gates, with perky fruit and a little bite of spice. Well crafted and delicious.

This was on fire. Perfect bottle. Incredible breadth in the glass. All of the classic Ramonet flavor you want. Perfect

A Perrieres with a subtle start and an expanding finishing. Next to the PYCM, which shows more manipulated than the Leroy, the lengths show the difference

Drank vs 89 Leroy RSV. The RSV came out of the gates stronger: the Riche had a little funk on the pop while RSV gave more signature aromatics. After an hour, the Richebourg woke up, unfurled some spice and showed off a long finish. The color showed some age but it was still bright and only a little thinning at the rim.

The “Other Cras” was fantastic on the night. LM’s hand was clear in the making of this NSG, as it brought more of a Vosne feel to it than NSG. No matter - it showed a fine character, good weight, an expanded palate, and good control of fruit. Really delicious

I was skeptical but it came out with a lot of the consistent Rousseau Chambertin signature quality, balance, and weight. Color was a little cloudy but otherwise it was clean.

Exploding from the glass. Made the wines next to it seem duller. Bluer fruit. Very lifted. Fills your nose, wafts over you and pulls you in. Excellent

Clearly Leroy, framed in ultra fine wood. The vosne character of highly lifted and perfumed wine channeled in the Lalou mold. Silky and delicious.

Served blind. Clearly came across destemmed - no greenness, very soft, seemed about 10 years older than 04 but in a good, resolved way. The darker fruit flavors with a light touch balance well to make a great glass of wine. One of the few great 04s I’ve had.

Bottle was a little tired. Decently transparent; not cloudy. The nose showed a little melancholy but the palate showed roses and length. Not the best 76 but sound and nuanced.

After a lot of DDLC and various Burgundy, this was great to taste. Showed more finesse and poise than the other wines before it. Not powerful but had a good spine. Worth seeking out

Blinded the table with this. Many called it Liger Belair. Having had the 02 La Romanee under the CLB name just a little while ago I was interested to compare. Both are excellent, in balance, with constrained power. The texture is soft. The body is medium. The fruit red not black. A little spice. Just lovely

Drank against the 86 (which, unfortunately, had a bit of sediment). The 01 showed nice maturity and brightness. Will last a long time.

One of the highlights of the Selosse Study. Blowing away the Largillier. Compared to the Substance, it didn’t have as much power but it did have comparable quality in texture and balance.

Often a very good rose, this is the first time Selosse rose was truly amazing for me. 2019 disgorgement. Just the right amount of Pinot. Not too heavy. Not to sharp either. Well balanced.

On the nose the wine was clearly DRC RSV - the perfume is pronounced, but not overdone. The signature floral notes, specifically roses with a hint of peonies, comes through. On the palate, it is delicate but not thin or flimsy; the flavor is carried beautifully.

This is an excellent wine drank next to great wines (02 CLB La Romanee, 02 Rousseau CsJ, 02 DRC RSV) of a different nature, leading to this particular bottle’s assessment a bit out of place. The CV is much deeper in color, heartier on the palate, and overall more muscular than the wines in the flight. Flitting flavors were not in this glass, no you are awash in perfume and deep cherry. As a result, the complexity, at least in comparison, wasn’t evident.

Better than a year ago and against stiffer competition. Robust flavors on the CSJ: strong red fruit center, a mix of cherry and strawberry, combined with vibrant tea and a little burnt crisp. Still lacks depth for me but a great bottle and quite delicious

This was phenomenal. What amazing texture this wine has. It was so soft and delicate yet substantial. The fruit effortlessly spread to every corner of the tongue without falling apart. It felt like a mix of what you get from great Bdx (the sandalwood, the coffee) and Burgundy. A magical bottle (the person who shared this bottle got it from RP, adding to its mystique).

I felt bad drinking this next to 86 Rayas and 02 CLB La Romanee (not to mention all the other great Burgs from the night). Everyone’s palate was tuned in one direction and this turned us in another, and not in a way we desired. Of all the Reds, this was touched the least at the table. Pondered by itself, it’s a gorgeous wine notes of leather, wood, a little flint, long fruits. It is deep in color and still reasonably tight. A shame this profile, for us 6, drew us in the least

Reconditioned bottle. Some other contemporary notes identify similar characteristics of these recently reconditioned bottles. Very fresh, clean and young feeling. It’s like drinking 2017 not 97. I bet these will be great but for today they are charming and rather simple relative to what 90s Leflaive is capable of delivering. To be clear, still very tasty today.

Admittedly, I am not a big Raveneau fan and the 95 didn’t do a lot to win me favor. The citrusness of Raveneau is more off putting to me than delicious. Usually it is contrasted with texture and delicate sweetness to soften the sharpness. That wasn’t in balance for this wine. It was kind of flat for Clos and didn’t bring the texture or flavor dynamism to make me stand up.

Unfortunately, this bottle was corked. It wasn’t badly corked, but the dampness was there. A shame as it had some great flavor underneath.

Only a small glass before dinner. Don’t remember much other than it was solid champagne. Need to try again.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): WOTN? A really complete wine. Great balance. Endless finish. People at the table, who've had this wine recently, noted how great this particular bottle showed. They weren't kidding. The wine is so soft and light but without lightness in color or thinness on the palate. The benefits of whole cluster on full display here. Really delicious.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): The nose was so DRC. It jumped out of the glass with a high pitch and strong attitude. You couldn't miss it. This needs much more time. Unlike the other bottles that were somewhere towards the middle/end of their window, I felt like we are at the very beginning here. Noticeable structure and tannins. Roundness just starting. Give this time.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): A cut about the 83 Beze. Everything was dialed up relative to the Beze: the nose much more inviting and calming, the fruit had a strong core of aged cherry with a little smokiness that was haunting. Really delicious.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): A good bottle with a solid amount of life. Found the nose somewhat muted but the fruit on the palate was nice. It had earthiness but didn't give up on quality of the texture. Very easy to drink but wasn't the most compelling wine in front of me.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): This was a little disappointing. It had a one-note vanilla profile that wasn't very interesting. It wasn't bad but wasn't the vaunted experience I am used to. The weakest DRC Monty I've ever had.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): Very good, basically textbook Coche Meursault. Had the requisite matchstick on the nose, good Meursault roundness and that magic Coche weight to it. Didn't offer more than that though so I put it below the 1995 Coche MP.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): Holy moly. This was cracking. Served next to 99 DRC Monty and 01 Coche Dury Meursault. The color was a pale green-yellow next to glasses of gold. It felt perfect. The finish was impossibly long. It was both generous with flavor and deliciousness will not losing crispness. Acidity still strong. Didn't fade.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): Served blind next to the 83 Leflaive BM and the 82 Coche Dury Meursault. Obviously Chablis. Obviously Raveneau. Many questions on age.

Looks young in the glass. Drinks young but doesn't have the intensity that is off-putting for me with most Chablis. The flavors had room to show and they were a good mix of citrus and honey. The length was amazing.

I guessed late 90s. No one guessed early 90s or 90. Impressive bottle

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): At first, I thought this was just past its prime. A fine wine where all the good bits have faded leaving a simple wine behind. Evan mentioned this vintage is maybe a little Sauterne-like? I could see it; it has some botrytis to it so maybe that is what took over? Z said the advice she received was to let it open in the glass. That was good advice. The wine expanded a lot over a couple of hours and show greater dimensionality. I think its best years have past, but it showed quality.

Wow. This was a standout bottle. Where did Jason get this?! Everyone was blown away at the quality of the wine: very true on the nose and on the palate. Medium weight. The acidity is there but not sharp. Very lean and revealing of lifted floral accents that is intoxicating in all the right ways. Fantastic.

EL Birthday Dinner (The Garden Table at Le Pavillon): Good character. Felt a little in between stages of development. The nose was muted, not giving much of an experience. On the palate it was much better. Drank more like a still wine.
