Opague ruby colorless rim. First impression on nose is like a great Napa or a 09 vintage ripe Bordeaux: very ripe blackberry, plum, smokey, leather, graphite, sandalwood, cigarbox, sweet vanilla and nutmeg. Palate is full body but with great tension and focus together with fine acidity all mingle well with its high alcohol. Ripe blackfruits, christmas cake, liquorice, sweet spicres, toast oak and underlying minerals. Long and big yet refined. An excellent wine but somewhat lacking typicity to be critical... Can drink now for up to two decades.

Serious stuff on first sniff. Enchanting intermixing ripe black fruits, plum, well integrated oak sweet spices, graphite, smoke, tarry. Rich and elegant on palate, ripe and smooth tannins with a long acid line. Ultra fine and focus. A truly great Shiraz showing sense of terroir and is something beyond being Old/New World style. Would like to see how it ages.

Deep ruby with hint of purple hue. Strong blackberry, blackcherry, liquorice, tar, ink, charred wood, nutneg. Full body, surprisingly refreshing (given its high altitute), lots of grippy tannins. Great overall balance and concentration. You could taste the old vine Malbec and Andes typicity here. Great QPR too.

2nd bottle. Let it open up and warm in glass. Voluptuous, energetic, ready to drink despite its youth. Ripe red apple, red berries and orchard fruits, smoky and nutty, yeasty, wet stone like minerlas, hint of oxidative notes make it feel more developed. Expansive and intense mid palate yet long and refined. Crowd pleaser.

2015 Château Canon St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
11/15/2019 - WINE_I_LOVE Likes this wine:

Mid to deep ruby. Harmony nose, like some tarry smoky wind bringing in lavendar like high tone floral note. Then there are ripe fruits beneath the flower such as black and blue berries and plum. Underneath are earth, dark chocolate and xmas cake like sweet spices.

On palate it is rich like 09 and 10, or even better. Smooth and airy like silk yet intense and deep. There is such a fantastic tension between lightness and power kicking in from mid palate that reminds me the magic I experienced 1.5 years ago when I last tasted it. Endless finish. Having tasted many great 09, 10, 15 and 16 Bordeaux lately, I am certain again that this Canon 2015 is, again, worth 100 points.

4th bottle. Mid-deep garnet yellowish rim. Wild and powerful dried berries, smoke, scorched earth, tar, game. Smooth palate, super intense yet velvet with kirsch, camphor, sweet spices, dark earth, smoke. Still a bit tannic but already at the beginning of its drinking window finally. Should be even better in 3-5 years.

Upon opening immediate aroma bursting out, cigar, smoke, ripe black fruits, scorched soil, graphite, liquorice, sweet and pungent spices. Dark and powerful. On palate, it is medium to full body, very bright acidity, lot of grippy tannins, very focused mid palate revealing layers of flavours: minerals, dark plum, earth, tobacco and some expresso note. Fantastic wine. Less open than the 2016 Pichon Baron tasted recently. Drink from 2022. 97+

As perfumed and open as the Angel flower 16, both exihibits pronounce foral, hawthorn, wild red berries and sour cherry. Earth Smoke is however slightly more mineral, (salty, wet stone like) and more smoky and spicy. And it has a bit more focus and concentration too.

Much better than my last encounter 2 years ago En Primeur, when it was already excellent. Classic great Pauillac nose. Deep, just ripe blackd fruits infused with sophicticated mineral, graphite, earthy core. So concentrate and focus with just right amount of creamy, spicy oak adding complexitiy. Linear and lingering. Already outstanding now, hard to resist. 97+
