This from a QPR perspective is one of my favorite reds. It tastes so beyond the price point, I cannot even begin to describe. You definitely taste the Syrah here, but not a sweet/jammy note. Love this one. Drinking well now, likely not beyond 5 years though.

Fantastic- This has plenty of gusto behind it. Velvety tannins one would expect of a Dunn Howell. This is why I come back to Dunn year after year for more and more to build out my verticals. Leathery hues, complex berry flavor... think intense boysenberry, blackberry, and char/smoke flavor on the back palate. Drinking easily well for 20+ years.

QPR, considering the label, this is unreal wine. Very nice flavor profile and a very food friendly wine. I would put this on par with the Sea Smoke and Williams Selyem Pinots that I love as well. The only issue I see here is I don't think this has the acid those have- ageing is a question for me here... I think they know that at Del Dotto too, this to me is a drink soon wine. But fantastic aside, considering the QPR and flavor profile showing now.

Fantastic- Drinking very well right now, plenty of fruit and acid. Lively berry/stone fruit with some leathery tannins on the back. Easily another 10 years on the bottle, but not too intense for now. Drank with a filet mignon for dinner.

Its not often I review a Chardonnay, but this is a fantastic showing. It has that elegance of a Puligny Montrachet, with the intensity of a California chardonnay that I love. Not by any means a butter bomb, but a very complex chardonnay that would go very well with a spicy pasta dish, chicken, or simply on its own. Drinking well now, another 5-7 years on the lifespan to showcase what I liked in it.

Drinking fantastic right now- Lots of backbone, I will say this is probably one of the best vintages I remember of ten, rivals that of 2012 for me, with probably a bit more structure. Earthy, with some elements of boysenberry.

Big big big- Not tight at all, very enveloping on the palate. Dark berry with stone fruit and some leather/tobacco on the mid palate. Luscious fruit, alcoholy/hot on the nose. Scent reminiscent of a little Rutherford dust, but not that earthly component, its more the intensity of the fruit, as I think of that AVA. I think this easily has another 20 years.

I don't give 100 points, but this wine for me is it... thus far. This is the finest wine I have had. A Rutherford Bordeaux style blend- this wine just screams flavor. The scent was just off the charts of rich oak, ripe fruit, black berry, and leather hues. The flavor profile was incredible- deep hickory, incredibly flavorful fruit, rounded with a punch of acidity/tannin. This wine is with out a doubt a great way to kick off a birthday week- the particular occasion driving my decision to open it.

I opened this wine for my annual "Judgment of Silicon Valley" event as I knew it would be a show-stopper. It was in every way shape and form. This wine is very elegant in nature. Color is a deep ruby hue. Scents of ripe fruit, baking spices, pepper, and almost a 'Rutherford Dust'. The flavor profile is all over the place - in an outstanding way... its almost like your pick up new notes every time you come for another sip. Too complex to put into words. Just wow- buy and enjoy. Drinking well now, but for sure could age another 10+ years without any issue.

This is one of the finest Nickel and Nickel cabernets I have had. I think this wine was just drinking at its prime. For us non-science folk, Element 28 is... you guessed it, Nickel. The cabernet has a really rich redness- think a ruby/blood like hue. The smell has tones of leather, tobacco, as well as an earthiness. The flavor profile is very focused fruit. Clearly a younger cab at this stage, it could mature a bit. The tannins/acidity were definitely there, but a very good showcase of how Darice Spinelli show cases the winery's single vineyard ethos.

I have been drinking Storrs wine for at least 10 years now. One of my favorites is their Santa Cruz Petite Syrah, so I was very interested to see a Rusty Ridge Petite 'Sirah' listed in the wine club allocation as this is typically the site of their hallowed zinfandel. This wine is fantastic. Deep almost jet black in color- this Sirah packs a ton of flavor. The nose is very hot- the alcohol is brimming, but the scent mellows to demonstrate vibes of rich chocolate and spice. The flavor profile is reminiscent of spice, mole, with a kick on the back end of tannin/acidity. I really want to do a side by side between this and the Santa Cruz Petite to see how they differ.

Mediocre at best. Not dumpable, but not memorable either... this was in the hotel room at Meritage in Napa Valley. I took it home after a friend's wedding there.

Nice amber color, but honestly a stereotypical "cat piss" flavor that gives Chardonnay a bad name. Not for me.

Opened this and let decant for about an hour. Despite being ~8 years old, and merlot based, the 2009 Juel is a punch to the palate. Deep ruby in color with a heavy hue of tobacco/dark berry fruit on the nose. On initial taste it had a smokiness and tannic base. Medium acidity, the wine progressed to show a really silky finish. Last sip was honestly the best... wine is for sure drinking in its prime now, but would recommend at least a 2-3 hour decant... or if you can trust yourself, drink it over 3 hours and see how it evolves.

While this may be the famed La Tour's 2nd label, this is a classic Puillac wine. Very dark ruby color, scents of tobacco, mushroom, and green pepper. Very well balanced on the palate with flavors of rich tannin and black berry. A very nice wine, without question.

A traditional Bordeaux blend (primarily constituted of Cab Sauv in this case) from one of my favorite Santa Cruz growers. What I like about this wine is that all of the grapes come from the SF bay area and that I think it competes with some of the best wines I have had from Napa and Bordeaux, in its own interpretation/way. A plum/cherry red color with a nose of cherry and rosemary. The flavor has very nice raspberry/black berry note with very mellow tannins to balance it all out.

Very excited to have BXR back!

This is a truly special Syrah. The interesting thing here is when I think Syrah, I think bold color with a richness that makes it like a black/purple hue. This is a little lighter in color, but believe me... this flavor is BOLD. Its very smoky and has this amazing texture that just fills the mouth with intense flavor of peat that is offset by a near perfect sweetness... very much reminiscent of boysenberry (with some tartness). To me this is Syrah perfection/nirvana.

An interesting take on a dessert wine. If you have read my notes of recent, I am just now getting into the dessert wine scene (finally taste buds are approving of the sweetness). Given that this is made with Viognier, it is quite a bit softer than the dessert wines that I like at present. I tend to be more of a fan of those made with Sauv Blanc/Semillon.

This wine in particular has a subtlety though that I really do appreciate. It's got a hint of honeysuckle, honey, and peach. Very nice with ginger bread as a contrast. The wine is a bit lighter in color than other white dessert wines that I have had.

Had this before dinner with a rib roast. On its own, this wine is unreal. It for sure is a big wine, characteristic of when I think of Silver Oak. Drinking very well right now, but could sit awhile longer to mellow out just a tad. Very oaky/smoke flavor, with nice hints of black berry/currant. Dark in color with a nose surprisingly reminiscent of Rutherford.

This is just a classic Oakville cabernet. I tried this at the winery and had to have a bottle. Scents of coffee, spice, and vanilla. The flavor profile is very rich, with chocolate, coffee, and pepper. This is a keeper and think this will age for 10+ years.

This is just a wow. Del Dotto has found some unreal fruit from the Howell region and has done their magic with their medium/dark toasted barrels. The scent on the nose is truly intoxicating and has a very complex/almost cabernet robustness. This wine has a woody flavor that just keeps me coming back for more! I love the tannins and heavy oak flavor, which reminds me a bit of the Plumpjack merlot, with its own personality.

What a special wine the Wagners have created! I love that they are using fruit from Suisun, a lesser known area just outside of Napa. This for sure has some of the stereotypical Wagner flavor, but its a great interpretation of Petite Syrah. The color is basically opaque. I love the blackberry/tannins on the palate and feel this will age for years to come.

I am only recently getting into the dessert wine scene and have to say this is one of my favorites. I initially did not like this at first, but have found myself enjoying the subtleties of this wine. Its certainly sweet, but very sophisticated. I love the nectarine/apricot tinge I get to this. There is an afternote of honey.

I will be buying this wine for sure to ensure I have some on stock.

This wine was a wow from the time I poured it to the last drop. The color is a raven black with red hue. The smell is a very concentrated vanilla, leather, and almost a "Rutherford dust". The flavor profile is very structured with a heavy backbone of tannin, smoke, and vanilla. They definitely must be using a medium/+ toast on the barrels as this flavor sat with me through out the evening. This wine will age very well, but very tempting to get through them sooner!

A blend of 50% merlot and 50% petite verdot, this wine is a fun play on a Bordeaux blend. The color is a very inky black/purple with a bit of an earthiness/leathery hint on the nose. This wine continues to evolve as well- I had it decanted for about 3 hours and watched it change a lot in its smell. The flavor is jam packed with berry fruit, and a bit of spice... almost like bbq spices, but these are more on the back end/subtle. I think Foxen does a great job with this blend and I look forward to seeing what future vintages will be like.

This has a very rich purple color and a very floral nose. Also on the nose is a dark berry jam and some espresso hues. I picked this up at Trader Joe's on a whim to try to learn more about Italian varietals. I have to say, this Brunello was a pretty good find, especially at the price point ($20 or so). The wine has a very nice nose with floral and earthy scents, with a bit of pepper/spice. I let the wine decant for an hour or so and had it with a nice pasta at a friends house. The flavor is rather soft at the start, but with the decant, some of the tannins came out- a very soft leather flavor with some smokiness.

I was recommended this Merlot by my local wine shop. I didn't know what to expect as I hadn't had this before, but figured I would give it a go.

This Merlot has a powerful nose. There is some minerality/spice that gives it a sense of big a big wine. This one did come out the gate strong with heavier tannins/leathery hues at the start that mellowed out a bit as it continued to decant. Really enjoyed this wine and would for sure drink again!

Per my usual MO- the Bargetto brothers have another solid wine here. This is no funky pinot with earthy vibes or a light one either. Rather this wine is very fruit forward with a nice bite of berry/granny smith apple (it has a very faint sour tint that adds to the nice acidity).

I think this wine is drinking well and would stand up nicely to a nice pork dish or a spicy curry. Really enjoying the way the flavor lingers on the palate.

I was recommended this Cab Franc from my local wine shop as I was looking for another to try. I shared this with a good friend who is also a major wine enthusiast and we both agreed that this is fantastic wine, but softer than that of the Corte Riva 2007 that we love.

This is a bit mellow, with good tannins and acidity allowing for some age-ability. Tastes of dark chocolate, berry, and some smoke/earthiness. Really a nice one to try!

I think I may be back on the Zinfandel wagon. Previously I felt these were too sweet or jammy (not to be confused with the fruit bombs that Napa produces in its Cabs).

I let this decant about 1 hour and I have to say, it was a beautiful wine. Very velvety fruit that is a little sweet, but there is a tannic/alcohol bite that kicks it away. There is also a nice leathery hue that makes this very chewy on the palate. I drank a bottle over the course of a lazy Sunday on its own. Food pairing that come to mind would be a fatty rack of lamb, New York Strip, or a nice Tri-Tip. This wine will age well, probably has another 10 years.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this Zinfandel. I was somewhat tired of the varietal as I find them to be a bit too sweet and jammy. This 2012 Jessup Zinfanel is neither of those. I let this decant for about 45 minutes and it opened up beautifully. There was somewhat of a residual sugar bite, but then it really softened on the palate as I tasted more and more. This definitely has a nice smoke note with almost a coffee/espresso tinge.

I think this wine would be really good with a hearty chili or a rack of lamb. Drinking very well now, but definitely has some aging potential too.

I am a bit surprised with all of the mediocre feedback on this one. I really like the flavor and story behind this 50th Anniversary Maestro. I think this is absolutely a nod to Bordeaux blends. Perhaps its people wanting it to be JUST LIKE a Bordeaux.

The wine is a little soft, as explained by the heavier concentration of Merlot. I do thing though that the cuts with Cab Franc, Cab, and Petite Verdot give it such a powerful finish. I would say the tannins on this are medium, with a very nice mineral balance to the palate. Really a job well done. Glad I bought half a case and will drink them over the next 5 years.

I opened a bottle to celebrate a long week- this is just a mastery of blending in a Bordeaux style. The subtle flavors of blackberry, vanilla, cranberry, citrus, and baking spices confound me. There's a lot going on here- I'm glad I have 5 more to savor.

This is the highest rating I've given a wine thus far. Buy some if you can.

I was given this wine from a co-worker as a gift. I was very excited to receive a Petit Verdot, as I have only had a pure varietal from one other winery (see Eagle Eye). Honestly, I was blown away- This wine is fantastic. The wine has a gorgeous purple color that reminds me of Syrah... as well as the Eagle Eye Petit Verdot. Very nice flavor that does kind of punch you in the teeth... something I do like in wine. I really think that this one is a gem. I would love to do a side by side with the Eagle Eye to see nuances as it is so rare to get a pure varietal Petit Verdot.

As I have said before, I really like the flavor profile of Jessup wines. This cabernet is no exception. Really has a very nice balance on the palate. Good fruit, acidity, and tannins. I think this particular cab has more of the smokey flavor that I get from Coombsville cabernets, which I love. Really a great wine.

A very good cabernet- I had this wine at the winery and really like the dark berry flavor of the wine. This wine shares similar characteristics of the reserve, as they do have similar lot share, but its a bit more rough around the edges... in a good way. I think that with some age, this would stack up to more current releases of the Groth Reserve Cab. Drinking well now, but would be prime in about 5 years.

I tasted this again at the winery on August 13th and have to say, I am glad I have at least one left. Still has plenty of backbone with ample acidity/tannins that will allow the wine to age a bit longer. This still has that very dusty/rich bite to it that I characterize of Heitz wines. Really a stellar one- will probably try to pick up a few more on my next visit.

This is another of the wines we were tasted on at our visit to the winery. This was certainly one of the favorites of the day, with that dark berry/rich tannin/big juiciness you would expect from Howell. Honestly, one of my favorite Sirahs. Very tasty- would go very well with some lamb or a hamburger. I think this needs a bit of a fattier piece of meat, due to the spice.

I went to this vineyard with a friend on 8/13/2016, the visit being both of our first times there. This 2012 stateline cabernet needs time to breathe. Its a very silky wine that isn't a huge show-er up front, but it certainly will grow on you (yes, that was a bit intentional). The palate is very balanced with nice berry/tannins smoothing out the taste. Drinking very well now.

This is just plain amazing. The wine has an extremely well balanced note that almost is a carmelized flavor. Very dark fruit that somewhat Dunn-esque, yet very solitary flavor. This is the second of the three Syrahs from the Behrens & Hitchcock 2004 Syrah tasting lot I purchased. This is very different than the "Chien Lunatique" wine I reviews before. Color is a beautiful inky purple. The smell is more woody, think more of a cedar/oak mix. The flavor is very mellowed out fruit with smoke/bbq profiles. Loving the aging on this wine, but would drink soon as it's getting close to its ideal drinking time in my mind.

I'm a total Jessup fan and have to say this 2007 Merlot doesn't disappoint. The nose is very smooth with nice leathery/bacon/bolognese smell- there's for sure a lot going on here in this wine. It immediately makes me salivate I smell it... A sign of a good wine to pair with foods or be enjoyed on its own The color is a showing of its age, with very light orange tint on the ends. To me the wine isn't as powerful as the 2012, but the flavor profile is still very much there. I think this is drinking very much in its prime now. Flavors of dark berry, with muted but subtle tannins and acidity. Really a nice wine!

Totally understand where everyone is coming from on the new cork for a 12 year old wine- I have no explanations.

Outside of that, the wine has a fabulous nose. Very only color. I didn't think it was anything special the first night I had it opened. It may be due to my cellar temperature, but the second night was a world of difference. Very complex and very good with hues of dark spicy seasonings, medium tannins, and black berry.
