11/15/21, 3:27 PM - Nice note Mark. I am sitting on a few and am looking towards some more age on them. Based on your experience, 3-5 more years? I also noted Tor's price increases for the 2019's. It seems to have coincided with Phil Mickelson drinking Black Magic from the Wannamaker cup. Coincidently my Black Magic allocation was lowered this year due to demand.
10/7/21, 3:48 PM - Thank you for the note and decant information #1. I just looked at a bottle tonight and pulled something else. Now I regret, however, it sounds like a special wine for the weekend.
5/2/21, 12:51 PM - Nice note Mark. I have yet to open any of 2018 Carters although I am sitting on quite a few. Been waiting on someone like you to post so I know where they are at. :) For some reason it seems to me that I am beginning to like Carter with a bit more age lately. I did just receive a 2015 GTO that will take some willpower to not open soon.
3/2/21, 3:48 PM - Nice note Jeff. The 2018 was my first year to obtain the Harlan. (I do have some 2016 "The Maiden") I will have three 2018 Harlan's and am curious of what your recommended drink dates would be? Cheers!
2/23/21, 4:35 PM - Wine4Lux...nice note as I appreciate bringing "real life" into the experience. As my name indicates...I am a cab lover. However, looking at your cellar and following leads on here...I would highly recommend that you try to get your hands on some Aubert Chardonnays based on your chardonnay interest. I like chardonnay but get that cannot wait to taste it with Aubert. Cheers
2/16/21, 6:19 PM - #1, Thank you for your notes. I have some FM in the cellar, have never tried before, and was considering buying some more of their 2018's as they are priced right for their vineyards. So....I decided to crack a Las Piedras tonight. It is still in the same spot as when you wrote this review. I am not rating as it is coiled up tight and did not smooth out until 4+ hours. I am thinking 3-5 years out from being an unbelievable wine. You can tell everything is there....just not ready. I ordered more with the great unknown of 2019's and the disaster in 2020. Cheers!
2/9/21, 4:33 PM - Thank you for the notes Yack. Much like you, I keep telling people that 2017 was not a waste and to give it to me before dumping down the drain. :) I believe that it will benefit with age more so then most Napa Cabs in the past 10+ years. Cheers! Dan
1/19/21, 10:23 AM - Nice note! Did you decant and if so how long? I had some in the 3-5 year timeframe and it was definitely not ready. Based on your review, I am looking forward to my next 13'.
1/5/21, 3:26 PM - Nice note Mark. While it seems the wine that Mike Smith typically makes wine that drinks well young, I have also recently had some Carter and 12C at the 5+ year mark that has been exceptional. Last year I went big on the 2018 Myriads. I called and talked to Leah on their recommendations and she recommended to hold the Empyrean and Elysian 2+ years and the Crane and G3 3+ years. She then laughed and said "I know it sounds backwards". With that said, I am trying to give Mike's wine a bit more time. I have yet to break into any of his 18's as the rest of you are doing such a great job posting. :) Thanks...Dan
12/19/20, 11:00 PM - I will be interested to read your notes. Great people!
12/15/20, 4:33 PM - Good note La Flama. Based on your experience with the 2015, I would suggest you jump into the 2018's. I believe they will be as good or better.
12/15/20, 4:28 PM - 1964....I agree....Carter makes fantastic wine. I like that you just got to the point. :)
12/11/20, 6:36 PM - Nice note Mark. I have loaded up on 2018's including this wine. Based on the notes on CT, I am impatiently waiting 6-12 notes before digging too deep. Dan
12/11/20, 6:32 PM - Great note! My experience has been very similar on the temperature.
12/5/20, 9:37 AM - I have not tried it and will need to check it out.
12/1/20, 4:56 PM - Bad... After trying the 2018 Scarlett, I believe you made a good decision with your additional order. I was in your club of placing an additional order. The QPR was especially high with the discount!
12/1/20, 4:27 PM - Great note! I am looking forward to opening my first bottle.
11/29/20, 8:07 AM - Nice note Bad. Your note affirms that these should be humming next year.
11/29/20, 10:33 AM - While it is not Becklyn, Scarlett has a fantastic Black Friday event that ends tomorrow. The discount is given at checkout.
11/26/20, 6:15 AM - CSimm, great note. I tried my first 2018 Scarlett a nd it was fantastic. Scarlett just posted their Black Friday event and the price for this is a great deal! I did not order a palette, but, ordered plenty.
11/20/20, 3:21 PM - lol I thought the same and pictured a brown bag.
11/17/20, 10:33 AM - #1 and group....I have just begun to add Fait-Main to my cellar. How long would you recommend to lay down the Las Piedras, Missouri Hopper and Sleeping Lady? I have ordered 2018's of each. Thanks
9/3/20, 7:47 AM - Thanks Badmonkey. I have tried both the Kailey Elizabeth (Oakville) and the Savory Estate (Howell). I thought they were both really good. Plus, it is good to still find some quality 2016s. Interested to read your perspective on either. Cheers!
9/3/20, 10:36 AM - Badmonkey. Yes, the Kaley was definitely more approachable then the Savory. For both bottles I decanted for two hours and then put it back into the bottle. The Savory showed improvement on day 2.
9/3/20, 3:08 PM - Thanks for the suggestion Iam. I will definitely check out the Farella. Cheers!
10/30/20, 4:55 PM - As it seems that everyone is jumping into their recently delivered 2018's, which I am going to let rest for 6-12 months, I popped another 16' Rudius tonight. Similar notes as previous. It appears BadMonkey also enjoyed. This is just a fantastic wine and priced right.
11/16/20, 7:46 AM - #1 I have not tried the Farella, but, the 2013 Kaley should be singing with minimal decant. I oftentimes find that Coombsville (Farella) wines benefit from a bit more age. I just received my 2013 and 2014 Kaley and I am looking forward to digging in soon..
10/12/20, 10:41 AM - Great note Yack! I had a very similar experience with the 2016. Since 12C was changing owners late spring of this year, I have not been able to locate their website. Do you have any insight? Thanks
10/16/20, 3:41 PM - Yack, I received my shipment of Myriad today and called Leah to get her perspective on aging of each label. I also asked her about 12C. The new owners of 12C have renamed their wine "Perchance Estates". Leah said she tasted the 2018 recently and it is the same 12C profile. Cheers Dan.
10/16/20, 4:01 PM - #1, Leah said that their wines are a little backwards in that the Elysian and Empyrean are normally ready 1-2 years ahead of the standard Crane and G3. She had the first two at 2 years out and the other two 3 years out. Steltzner at 3+ years. Myriad cab, rest from shipping and drink. Hope this helps. Cheers
10/16/20, 4:58 PM - Yack, they do have a website, however, they have little information on it. They are interested in getting interested consumers information at this time. I did submit my interest. The website is Perchance estates. I already received an email and they are releasing in November.
10/26/20, 4:23 PM - Yack, Perchance Estates (formerly 12C) posted their G3 on their website. (Clears throat) They are proud versus the market. Apparently it will be available to order in November.
11/14/20, 7:54 AM - I keep looking at the offering, but, I am having a difficult time ordering a few. To your point, it is way above market price for this vineyard. Strange that Mike owns Myriad and makes both wines and the new owners of Perchance appear to have ignored.
11/5/20, 6:57 PM - Given that you hold quite a lot of Insignia, I am wondering how you view this one's QPR?
11/4/20, 10:06 AM - Yeah...but...was the fruit Red or Blue? (Get it?)
11/2/20, 5:38 PM - I jumped in based on Mark's notes. Not terrified or drooling, but, the pressure is mounting. lol
10/29/20, 6:40 PM - Jazz..based on my taste and what I have read...I went long on the entry Becklyn, Myriad and Scarlett for what it is worth. Mike Smith is smiling. lol
10/29/20, 5:09 PM - Nice note Spectrump! I opened a 17' tonight and had similar chocolate/cocoa notes. No doubt the 17' will not shine like 16' or 18", but, consistent fruit and wine making. Thank you for diving in early. Cheers
10/28/20, 4:43 PM - Nice notes Cab! The people at Carter seem to think that due to the vines etc... La Bam is beginning to overtake La Verdad. It will be interesting to see how they continue to evolve. I eliminated my risks and went heavy on both for 2018. lol
10/28/20, 4:29 PM - Day 2...It did drop off as most Carter's seem too. Mark...I understand your point on 17's...I was just having some fun as my favorites still seem to produce some great juice in down years. With that said...I went much heavier on 18's versus 17's.
10/27/20, 5:00 PM - Good note Bad! I just received my shipment and was wondering how long to leave it sit?
10/27/20, 4:26 PM - Greg...while 2017 was no doubt a down year after the five year run...I still do not think it was a pour it down the drain 2011. lol The high end wines seem to be putting on some weight and may just need a few more years than what we have been spoiled with. They will probably never approach 2016's, but, still great juice. Cheers! Dan
10/27/20, 3:11 PM - Great note Cristal! Another confirmation that I am glad that I went long on 2018's and Myriad. I have been experimenting with Mike's wines and have found similar with the amount of air. The exception I found was Scarlett, which seems to need more air young. It seems many go thru a funky stage 2-4 years in the bottle and then come back some. I say "some" because he makes incredible young wines. I recently had a 2015 Carter Weitz that was humming.
10/27/20, 2:56 PM - Great note Yack! Expecting my shipment on Friday. It seems that Scarlett needs lots of air early or just patience. I will probably give my first bottle air. lol
10/21/20, 4:23 PM - Thanks for the note JN. As it appears, I am also experimenting with Carter and other Mike Smith wines. It seems as though his wines are best, if you like that in your face moment, in the 3-5 year range. I have also found it varies even more with his wines dependent on the vintage.
10/21/20, 4:08 PM - Cristal, great note and thank you! Leah recommended that I lay these down for three years. I know we are all impatient. lol How long did you decant?
10/21/20, 4:01 PM - Nice note! Last time I had this wine it resulted in me ordering another 6 bottles.
10/21/20, 3:56 PM - Just some additional info that I got from Leah at Myriad. (Mike's wife) She said that their wines are a bit backwards in that the Empyrean drinks well earlier then the standard G3. She recommended two years to lie down for the Empyrean and three years for the G3. Thought this may help in your decision on how long to decant as we all want to try earlier.
10/16/20, 7:02 PM - I am still thinking 2023-25 before it completely integrates. Your thoughts?
10/16/20, 9:16 PM - Thanks....everyone's feedback on here is valuable.
10/16/20, 8:23 PM - Bad....in case you did not see an email....Rudius is offering vintage Kaley with free shipping. Dan
10/16/20, 9:23 AM - Lite, great note. I also had a 2015 Scarlett Reserve this week. My experience the first night was very similar to your notes. PNP The second day was much more enjoyable. I will be giving the future a 2+ hour decant or let them lie a few more years. May be in a funky spot, but, the second day tells me it is not going downhill.
10/16/20, 6:08 PM - If you need my address, just let me know. lol
10/14/20, 2:18 PM - Great notes MSU! I have begun to receive some Morlet this year based on your earlier notes/recommendation. Peter Michael still evades me, however, they say I will get an allocation next year. Oh well, I guess I will have to struggle thru with the Aubert and Kistler. :)
9/1/20, 2:53 PM - Mark, Maybe we are on to something. lol I had a 2014 Grand Daddy last week and it was probably the most significant drop I have had in the Carter line up. I know Carter drinks well young, but, I have a fairly big inventory of their wine so I am experimenting. The source of the grapes should be in for the 7-12 year typical sweet spot, but, we will see. Expensive experiment. :)
8/24/20, 4:24 PM - I wonder if it has hit a funky spot. Carter drinks very well young, but, I find I am beginning to experiment on how it ages. I had a 2015 Carter OG this weekend. I decanted it for four hours and it was incredible. It may not get much better with age as many wines do, but, it is great juice. With that said, I am questioning myself on when I should open my GTO's.
8/24/20, 4:13 PM - Nice note! If you can get your hands on some Aubert CIX, I believe that it is the closest competition to Aubert's Eastside.
8/19/20, 3:59 PM - I read your note 10 minutes after popping the cork. Guess I will give it plenty of air.
8/9/20, 3:08 PM - Great note Geaux! I am looking forward to when I pop a GTO. You may have tempted me to try earlier then I originally planned.
8/6/20, 5:57 PM - Good note Tomoem. Where do you think it is at towards hitting it's peak? I have been sitting on mine. Cheers!
8/6/20, 5:53 PM - Good note Sean. I have also found that the2017 Carters are good. Just give them air or time laying down versus the normal.
7/23/20, 3:08 PM - Great notes! I am sitting on some of the Realm and Morlet SB Semillon. Trying to decide when to open. The Morlet has received rave reviews on CT. Cheers
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
