Still very very young, and very fruit forward at this point. Hold the rest for at least another year.

Helpful to have some air (or more time). Young, but not totally primary. Surprisingly good balance of fruit, tannin, and acid. Great wine for the price.

Wow, this wine has really improved over the last year, shedding some of the sweetness and baby fat, but gaining depth and complexity. The nose is also much more expressive than before, right out of the bottle. Black current, pencil lead dominate the nose. Medium body. Acidity is a bit higher than I tend to like in a red, but I'd chalk that one up to personal bias.

Surprisingly balanced for an 03. Drinking well. Rich, extracted (but not over the top). Some oak, but not overly so.

Bread and caramel on the nose. Amazing amount of fruit for a 19 year old bubbly. Good balance of acidity. Silky, and long finish.

Still big wine, could use more time (age or longer decant). Has a green element to it.

Deep, dark, thick wine. Some spice, figs, tobacco, and just a little menthol on the nose. Surprisingly restrained on the palate considering the color, consistency, and nose.

Wonderfully expressive nose of black cherries, with some floral notes. Fine, smooth tannins, and a noticably less oak than many modern CA cabs. The 04 does seems to integrate the fruit, oak, and tannins a bit better at this point though. Whether that's an age issue or something else remains to be seen.

A bit one dimensional; didn't stand out. Dark fruit, a bit of wood, and noticable sweetness. Drank over 4 days, did not improve. Be sure to drink under 65 degrees F, because as it warms pass this point, the alcohol becomes very very noticable, even for someone that likes many high alcohol wines.

Absolutely amazing nose. The aroma of dark fruit filled the air as soon as the bottle was popped. Blackberry and plum dominated on the tongue, with hints of cedar and spice. Fine tannins grip the tongue. 35-40 second finish.

Beautiful marriage of old world and new. Dark fruit, smooth, fine tannins, and hints of dirt, spice, leather, and tobacco. Nose fades with time spent open, so resist the urge to over decant.

A bit of a musty nose, but blew off after first 30 minutes or so. Ripe fruit, leather, and layers of complexity. Just beginning to get that "aged" quality. Heavier body than the 2000.

Popped and poured (in Dixis cups, no less)! Absolutely amazing. Perfect cork. Thick and dark, with a nose dominated by blackberries, cassis, and a bit of vanilla. Unbelievably young and fruit driven on the tongue still, but will solid structure, fine tannins, dark fruit, and vanilla from the toasted oak. I'm going to wait a bit before opening the others. These seem to better and better integrated as time goes on.

Wow, surprisingly nice. Great nose of cherries, violets, and leather, right from the opening of the bottle. Dark color, though not as inky as some nebbiolo. Medium body, but with a surprisingly silky, tongue-coating feel. Tannins were smooth, well integrated, not tongue drying. Balanced fruit, tannins, and acidity. GREAT food wine. Finish lasted 30+ seconds.

Opened, poured, decanted rest. Smelled of earth, tobacco leaves, and dark fruit. Opened up as the evening wore on (couple hours). Color was dark, slightly purple, right up to the edges. Tasted of blackberries, herbs, and earth. Lots of structure still.

I've never had a wine change so much over a few days. Wide green streak just dominated on the first day, almost undrinkable (from someone who thinks not many wines are undrinkably bad). However, it blew off by the second day, revealing a cedar box nose, good structure, dark fruit, and a medium finish. Worth cellaring for a few years.
