The wine was crimson and purple in colour. On the nose was predominantly blueberry with cranberry and sandalwood. Palate was raspberry, blueberry and forest floor.

A very elegant wine with a nice perfume.
Sealed by stelvin, its drinking beautifully right now.

This wine is getting better with age.

Nose is slightly sweet and fruity.
Palate is dry, tobacco, cassis with a hint of spice. Very typical of a dry (non sparkling) clare valley red.

Drunk slightly chilled and got better as it was open for an hour.

I tried this a few months ago at a tasting and wasn't that impressed.

So I opened this bottle and thought I'd give it another chance. It seemed like a totally different wine.

Vibrant purple with a subdued sweet fruit nose mixed with a slight pepperyness.

Pepper and light spice on the palate. Lots of primary fruit but restrained enough with plenty of savoury flavours showing.
Tannins there but well balanced.

This should go quite a few more years yet but drinking really nicely now.
Not what I expected from a Barossa Shiraz

Nose of tar, almost menthol and a slight hint of smoke.
Palate was blackfruit, well balanced tannins and oak.

A beautiful long finish that could last for another 5 years at least.

Took this to an Auswine forum offline.

Slightly cloudy in appearance with a brown tinge. It certainly looks older than it is.
Slight sour cherry with some earthy smoke on the nose

Earthy, autumnal notes and could pass for a burgundy.

Seemed much older than it was - hard to gauge how this will develop but drinking really well now.

This is a 21 year old wine ... would not have picked it in a blind tasting.

Bright red colour with hints of dark purple.
Nose was dark fruits and mint. Developed cigar box and smoke characteristics.
Palate was dark fruits, slight sweetness from the oak with very fine tannins.

The wine seemed very fresh - I did buy it and have stored it well since release.

Very pale colour with a hint of orange and looking like a very old light red.
Nose upon opening was spicy cherry and developed a meaty almost lightly smoked meat after a while in the glass.

Palate was fantastic - again cherry, spices and earthy. Slightly gamey feel. Could have picked this for a burgundy and not typical of an Aus pinot.

Dark red with blackish ink edges this wine looked big.
Nose of smokey oak and a hint of bacon. Slightly sweet vanilla coming from the oak.
Black fruit, Tar and tobacco box with a long finish. Tannins still there and it seems as though it could easily go another 5 to 10 years.

Sweet nose with hints of tea leaves and dried fruits.
Dark brown with a tinge of gold.

Gorgeous on the palate. Fruit cake, toffee, some green olive
Long long finish of Christmas pudding and treacle.

A great example of this wine style.

What a wine!
Drunk with Peking duck.

Colour - vibrant ruby red with hints of purple.

Nose - sweet red berries with hints of earthy spice.

Palate - red fruit and drying tannins. Dry earthy dusty.

This is exactly what a sparkling red should taste like - I'm in love.

Go out and buy this wine.

A very pleasant wine to drink.

Sealed under stelvin, the colour has started going golden.
Nose and palate dominated by citrus and sherbet. Acid still there and in balance.

Brickish red with a brown tinge.
Nose of tar, cigar box, smoke and dark black fruits.
Palate had a hint of spice but mainly leathery, earthy secondary fruit with flavours from the nose. Tannins have really died over the last few years.
Long finish and drinking well now.

Very dusty on the nose almost like an old MR cabernet.
Long finish, barnyard and hoover bag on the palate.

Not everyone will like this style.

Bright Crimson with purple hues. Quite viscous.
Floral, fresh, lifted violets and even rybina on the nose.
The palate has more red berries with a hint of sweetness coming through the fruit flavour. Hints of dust and dirt coming through.
It's a long finish that is quite drying but still leaves you wanting more.

Can't believe this is 15 years old.

Never had a Merlot like this before.

Took a while to open up but when it did had a great nose with subtle berry fruits. Palate was very long but had certainly mellowed over the years. No tannins but still well structured with a black fruit finish.
Not a huge wine and best drunk by itself but still excellent.
A pleasure to drink.

Lemon. lime and sherbet on the nose.
Backed up by a toasted citrus palate that was very long with a hint of spritz.
Drinking well and should last another few years at least.

I hadn't had a 2006 for about 6 months and its really started to develop nicely.
This wine is sealed by stelvin.
The colour has started moving towards golden but still looking young.
The nose was very toasty and citrus.
The palate had lots of lemon, citrus and sherbet. Almost a light spritz on the tounge.

It was quite a warm night and it ended up at room temperature and just shone. Really opened up into a fantastic wine considering what I paid for it.

Not sure if the previous bottle was just flat but night and day between them. Maybe the 2006 is coming out of its flat spot.

Sitting for an hour the nose starting showing leather and Slight burnt characters.
Palate still has fruit with balanced oak.
This could go another 5 years.

Cracking wine drinking beautifully which has all the hallmarks of a typical penfolds.

Kerosine with some citrus on the nose. Dark golden yellow in colour.
Palate was also kerosine with a hint of sherbet.
After being open for an hour it got some phenolic characters on the nose.

If you have any I'd drink them now.
