3/14/24, 9:12 AM - We just tasted this bottle at the winery and it was showing great. Time has been kind to it.
4/26/23, 4:53 PM - Chagrin? In the future she will thank you.
4/1/23, 8:48 PM - Great question!Working with what's in the bottle today, it has to trend more towards the Bdx arc because it's not as extracted as a typical Napa cab. But, it doesn't have the "brett" or nuance from having a sense of place the typical high end Bdx has in order to make it interesting. My crystal ball tells me it'll be in the same ballpark of an old school Napa cab from the 90's in 15+ years.
9/21/22, 6:09 PM - I've had other bottles from Boich that weren't like this at all. I'm going to assume no Mega. It's nothing like Caymus.
5/2/22, 8:56 PM - Cherry, Vanilla and White pepper. Certainly a "Rhone" style.
4/23/22, 2:08 PM - That is a great questions as to why A&B are not more well known. I remember going there when they opened and really enjoying the tasting. We bought wine that day but never really got on the A&B wine club. That said, I do pick out their wines if I see them on a list at a restaurant somewhere or if a friend offers to open a bottle.Cheers from The Beach!
4/7/22, 8:30 PM - Really disappointed you didn't like this. Most certainly not old school rustic Italian, but I do understand your "Parkerized" comment.
4/9/22, 6:06 AM - Better with food? Our tasting was with mortadella and other antipasti.
4/23/22, 2:04 PM - Glad to see the second bottle was better!
11/25/21, 7:59 PM - Opened a magnum and thought it was corked. Three hours later, it was really improved. Now that I came here to remove it from CT and seen your note, I totally understand what's going on. I'll cork it and revisit again tomorrow.
9/21/21, 1:02 PM - tphilca: I agree with everything you say and love this wine as much as you do. There is a great cherry and dust "Rioja" quality to it. It also is wine that is just so polished with no rough edges, giving it a new world feel. This isn't a bad thing, it's just what is IN the bottle.
9/4/21, 8:42 AM - To be fair, the wine is light by design as it's done in concrete and not aged in wood to give any really impact. It's an interesting take on tempranillo and totally in its own category. It really can't be judged against anything else from RdD.
8/14/21, 8:29 AM - Deux, Same here. As soon as I saw a 6 pack of this in Dallas, I bought them all without thinking how I was going to get them home.We had a 2003 in Bilbao two years ago. Comparing the 2003 to this 2009, I can certainly see where the concentration of "honey" on the nose leads to over time. The only question is, can I wait long enough to see if these bottles get to that point? It's gonna be hard!
8/13/21, 8:19 AM - Ahhh. I mixed up the Encosta with this bottle. Yes, Pritchard Hill fruit.
1/7/21, 9:22 AM - HAHA! Quality response and a lot of truth here!!!
1/7/21, 5:07 AM - This is great news as I have a few 1995's remaining. I just had the 1999 Seavey and our experience was the same as the one you described. Wines built for the long haul.
1/7/21, 5:02 AM - Bingo! The marketing aspect is even more eye opening after a visit to their property in Reims. I have friends that will die for a glass of Veuve because they love the label, but like you there are many other wines I'd rather have.
10/31/20, 8:47 PM - I'm sorry, I don't know if there was anything related to a disgorgement date. I ordered two bottles and both were gone within a few weeks and I didn't event get a picture of the bottle.
10/23/20, 10:22 AM - Mark, I am with you 100%. In fact, a few months ago I had the chance to taste the 2015 and was a carbon copy of what we experienced in the 2013. Time to let them sleep and forget about them for the foreseeable future.
5/22/20, 1:36 PM - You'd think that even after an additional year in the bottle, it wouldn't need as much air. But, it reacted EXACTLY the same. Starting out with the same initial palate of bitter chocolate as the previous bottle, it smoothed out to be a phenomenal bottle of wine.
4/20/20, 6:07 AM - We tasted Moone-Tsai, Paul Hobbs, Fairchild, Sinegal, Bulgheroni and Revana at the same sitting. All had that "second gear", as they should, except the Revana. Seriously disappointed.
4/20/20, 7:26 AM - Yes, all 14's. I posted tasting notes for all of them. It just wasn't in the same class as the others.
1/12/20, 5:22 PM - Jason's single vineyard cabs (Rocca/Farella) can be opened without spending a long time in your cellar the same as Vicarious. He certainly finds a way to extract massive amount of dark fruit from his grapes, almost a signature of his. But, if you get your hands on his "Collection" series, those need to be treated differently because they need lay down time. I had the 2012 a few years ago and it was way too early.I love his Antithesis even though it's not really a true merlot because it sounds time with Petit Syrah skin contact. Big beautiful PS nose yet it has a lighter merlot like mouth feel on the palate. It doesn't quite fit the profile of something from Bordeaux.
1/12/20, 6:30 PM - Drink away. My yearly allocation is already gone.
5/9/19, 4:31 AM - Please post a new TN. I've also had just one bottle out of the 6 pack and was hoping time would fix what's inside.
2/19/19, 5:44 AM - La Despensa del Etxanobe. What a meal we had. This wine was also paired with their dish of foie gras, poached egg and black truffle. Ethereal.
2/19/19, 7:49 PM - Deux, thanks for the message! This was one of the first whites I've had with both a flavor profile and acidity to stand up to the combination of foie gras with black truffle. All the while, it also had the ability to not overpower a raw oyster yet still let the flavor of a lime be expressed.
2/19/19, 7:50 PM - Txangu, I'm searching for the 1996 right now. Thanks!
9/5/18, 8:08 PM - Agree 100%! This exactly how I explain a really good Oregon Pinot.
6/2/18, 5:36 AM - Glad to see these bottles holding up. I still have three bottles of the 2000 Mondavi Reserve sleeping. Sounds like I still have time left. Great notes from the event, BTW.
5/17/18, 6:02 AM - Agree 100%. But, don't give up, the 2014's are more of what you're looking for.
4/15/18, 8:16 PM - Agree with the last sentence as well. I haven't picked up the last two DS vintages after discovering my DePonte wines were out performing DS.Another great alternative is Methven in the WV.
4/16/18, 9:28 AM - brouigu1, I couldn't agree with you more. The last time we were in the WV we found the entire place to be one big commune of people in the wine business all pulling for and supporting each other. There was only one place where we got the "Napa Vibe" and that was at DS.I remember being in the Evening Land tasting room and having them walk us over to the Angela tasting room because they just opened that day. The lady pouring for us at EL said she loved Andela's wines and wanted us to get in before they got "popular". This is why I love the WV!
11/27/17, 8:42 PM - I'm going to put money on it has to be the bottle. I've drank 16 of 18 bottles so far and none of them have been monolithic or dusty. The most recent was about a month ago and it was the best so far.
9/19/16, 3:24 PM - Was the bottle flawed, corked or cooked by heat?
6/18/16, 9:00 PM - "Expensive Poser Wines"? Brilliant stuff!!!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
