Still young, glass staining, bright red rim, black centre, no sediment. 50cl bottle attractively decanter like. Spirit dominates the nose, sweetness the initial taste, then spirit kicks in again before you get the delicious plum and spice. Lingers as a gently glowing mouthful of fruit for minutes. Better that a straight Ruby. Very enjoyable, if still rough at the edges. Don’t know how it would age. Suspect it would improve for a few years but would then lose it’s charm, which is the youthful brashness. Will buy two more to try in 2023 and 2026 to test the theory. Two weeks later, tasted alongside Penfolds 10 Year Old Tawny. Taylors has more character (plums and spice) and is leaner vs sweetness and enjoyable baked quality in the Penfolds. Very different.

2/1/21, 5:35 PM - Thanks. Somebody put vintage in the LBV entry and I wanted to be sure.

Deep ruby colour. Weak nose of blackberry, black cherry and spruce. The black fruits are dry and a bit weak, but there’s a spicy kick that makes it feel full bodied. The spice gives a medium finish. On the second night the spice has relaxed and there were blue fruits. I’d recommend a longer decant because at this point the spice is overpowering.

1/10/21, 4:47 PM - After 24 hours I’m getting some blue fruit and the spice is muted. I like it more and would put it at 91.

Melon, lemon and some herb. There’s some decent complexity in this wine. It’s full bodied, buttery, and a bit bitter. The finish is a good length.

1/10/21, 4:34 PM - After 48 hours open in the fridge, it more lemon and refreshing, with a silky smooth texture. The bitterness is integrated and it is delightful overall.

Nose of mushrooms, caramel and candied cherries. Flavour is complex with sour cherry and caramel. It’s a bit like a mix between sherry and port. After a while, the finish has some Granny Smith apple flavours.
  • JCherniak commented:

8/12/18, 6:59 PM - On day three there’s more mushroom and less bite. Now it’s smooth and savoury. Much better. I’d give it a 91 tonight.

Nose of peat and strawberry. Flavour of spice with a hint of strawberry. A bit tarte.

3/2/17, 6:11 PM - After a few days in the fridge, I'm getting a bit of anise in the finish. Tannins remain good, so this should age more. I'd rate it 89 now.

Fine bubbles, lemon at first with some minerals in the finish. Very pleasant, but I probably held onto this bottle too long.
  • JCherniak commented:

5/29/16, 6:33 AM - I'm not an expert, but I think if it's not a vintage champagne is intended to be drunk around when it's released.

Tastes sweet, but still dry. Refreshing with a bit of a grapefruit flavour.
