9/10/18, 5:55 AM - Ummm. Such a complimentary review and only 86 points???
9/10/18, 5:52 AM - I wonder if something was wrong with your bottle. Its definitely not Napa Cabernet richness but its not drying for me. Wonder if you get the chance try it again now. If you still don't like it - we must respect each others' palates and preferences. For me its rather Bordeaux without the barnyard forest floor and very much the better for it.
7/7/18, 12:53 AM - Was this worth 94pts not 84?
6/4/17, 12:32 AM - I believe Winslows is (was?) a Martinborough winery so its Martinborough fruit I think. The comment is still valid as Cabernet and friends not commonly planted there either. Turakirae was however their flagship very special red.
6/5/17, 3:48 PM - Hi Nathan. I located a bottle in my cellar and you are absolutely right about the fruit from Marlborough! I've enjoyed Turakirae 1996, 1998, 2001 and lastly 2006 vintage 2 bottles not yet tasted! However I did have a 1997 Nautilus Cab-Mer (also no longer made) a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome. Yes, maybe they should be trying the Bordeaux varieties again in Marlborough!
3/26/17, 2:39 AM - Despite the price of this wine, the drinking experience is sometimes not what one would want. Depending on one's own palate of course, my experience with this wine is lack of fruit and its not on my buy list.
3/26/17, 2:38 AM - It was probably corked. I've had one which was magnificent and one which was "dull" to say the least. Corks, bah - curse of the cellared wine. A way to tell is open another bottle (I bought 6). 2 out of 3 ok. One was pitiful and got poured down the sink. C'est la vie. I'm prepared for a failure in the remainder.
3/26/17, 2:34 AM - ...and this is the absolute tragedy and total disgrace of French cork closures - typically 10% failures even on very expensive winesSacré bleu!
6/19/16, 4:23 AM - Mount Mary Quintet is often an elegant wine in the extreme. You have to examine balance and imagine the wine in 20 years time. 2010 is rated very highly by critics and I agree with them but its anything but a weighty Robert Parker wine. You will however guaranteed enjoy this wine in 15-20 years due to the cellaring potential. It will never be a "big" wine but it will take on bottle maturity gracefully. You could even come back in 40 years and it will be enjoyable for the elegance and balance.
5/29/16, 3:09 AM - Its not worth commenting the food didn't go well, unless you say what food to avoid with this wine!
5/29/16, 3:06 AM - That is alright! I love Supertuscanere and Tignanello not disappoint . Lovely nose of mainly cherry and a little black currant . Then a little dust, wet forest floor , cedar , licorice and dark chocolate and finally a sharp but finely balanced, touch of slightly burnt oak and Tahiti vanilla. In the mouth the wine is full and nice round with well-integrated tannins. The taste is dominated by red berries , dark chocolate and vanilla and perfectly controlled acid that keeps the wine beautifully together . Can easily keep +5 years.
2/10/16, 3:50 AM - In early 2016 the wine is tasting more pineapple than apricot, but plenty of wild honey and some citrus and the acidity persists to clean the palate. The botrytis is prominent and this will preserve the wine for decades. Its sensational at this point and I hope to enjoy my dozen over the next 20+ years.
2/10/16, 3:46 AM - Really sorry for your experience and I think you must have had a bad bottle. 2011 to 2015 tasting not particularly young so the thin-ness indicates indicates the lack of the viscosity we see in the good bottles. Would encourage you to buy again as the rest of the reviews indicate its rather good.
2/10/16, 3:40 AM - Think its more than slightly sweet but this may be the significant botrytis influence at this time. Agree the pineapple but not so much the apricot unless you are thinking syrup canned apricots. Certainly agree the acidity and this is what will carry this wine for a couple of decades together with the botrytis. Cellar this wine, you will not be disappointed.
12/23/15, 2:29 AM - ...and by the way, a couple of bottles I've tried have clear crystals in the bottle and this indicates supersaturated sugars. So for 13.5% alc I think this wine is some achievement and congratulate Rieussec for this vintage of their second tier wine. I have not any of 09 Rieussec - should be wonderful stuff on this basis!
6/21/15, 8:47 PM - Only had Domaine A twice. High reputation but I found it not completely ripe and not fruity and a bit one-dimensional. Voyager far more enjoyable.
