One of the greatest white wines of Burgundy can't last 18 years?

Holding up nicely despite the rather dark color. Lovely sweetness while still retaining some good acidity for a domestic sweetie. Nice job here.

Very classy Amarone here. 16% alcohol but doesn't feel like it.

This was all dried out & shot. Bolla has got to do better than this.

Normally, I'm a Dickerson fan. This was very cheesy without the normal spice that is Dickerson to me. A disappointment.

Outstanding! Adds to my belief that Collio is the best spot on the planet for Cabernet Franc. Deep & rich still with no hints of bell pepper. I don't know if it's their clones, but I've never had a Collio Cab Franc that didn't impress.

When first opened this was all earthy & mushroom. Deep, lush fruit. After a few hours it disintegrated into strong VA with a mean green streak. A bit of a disappointment here.

Simply beautiful. All the peach & apricot nectar you could want with lovely acidity still cleaning up the palate. A bit cloudy, but who cares.

Seemed like this Pinot Noir producer was trying to force Syrah into a Pinot Noir winemaking mold. Tight, tart cranberry flavors. A disappointment, as I love their Pinots.

I've been a little disappointed with the older Viader wines. Showing its age in the flavors. Fruit is a bit dried out & the Cab Franc weedy element seems to have taken over. OK but not great.

If this wine were an olympic contestant, it would be banned for steriod use. Massive fruit & just enough structure. Not a food wine & don't let it anywhere near the table but, it's perfect as an after dinner "cocktail" wine.

I know a lot of people are fans of this winery. This is the second bottle that I've had from them & both were loaded with volatile acidity. This is either a deliberate wine making style or a serious flaw. Either way, it's not a style I enjoy. Sorry, but I don't get it.

This bottle was corked. A shame since the abundance of fruit was still astounding. If this is what the Oseleta grape can do, I'll need to search out more of this variety.

A little tight but at the table, this opens nicely with food. About as far down the Lafite Rothschild ladder you can go but I'm told that 50% of the fruit in this wine is from Lafite & it is made by the wine making team there. Hints of the hallmark Lafite lead pencil seem to confirm this. An affordable peak into the Lafite style.

OK, this wine looked really oxidized through the bottle. So much so that I grabbed another backup bottle from the cellar. It looked really oxidized in the glass but didn't smell all that oxidized. What a surprise that there was still plenty of fruit & acidity on the palate. Only slight notes of oxidation. What a great effort from Bob & Sandy.

Still a bit too modern & ripe for my taste. I hoped it would mellow of bit with age but still very flashy. Not what I open a bottle of Spanish wine expecting to find. For fans of the style.

Not my style, although some may like the over-the-top fruit & alcohol (15.9%). Tried to drink this with a ribeye but the alcohol just kept getting in the way. Many of my friends are fans of this producer. I just don't get it.

This is a delightful little Fronsac from Patrick Leon who spent time at Mouton Rothschild & now works with Peter Sichel. A great bargain in moderately priced Bordeaux. Merlot & Cabernet Franc.

I'm continually impressed whenever I open one of these old Rex Hill bottlings. This had expected aged wine aromas & flavors but the juicy fruit was still vibrant & vital. Great job & a true testament of what Oregon is capable of.

Dusty, tactile & chewy. This shows Ama's propensity to add international grapes to the Chianti Classico blend. Something else dominates the Sangiovese at this stage & it's ok, but not what you'd normally expect from Chianti.

Nicely restrained fruit. A nice play with the Merlot & Cabernet Franc flavors however the alcohol burn in the finish was just overbearing. Nice try.

Way over ripe with an unhealthy dose of volatile acidity. Not worth the money I paid for it. Nearly undrinkable with dinner. Too concentrated & the volatile acidity was a big problem for me.

This winery doesn't get the kudos of many other Napa properties yet they consistently turn out superior wines that age beautifully as this example testifies. Everything you'd want in a Napa Cab. Juicy but elegantly structured.

This drank beautifully at NYE dinner 2014 alongside a CA cabernet, a Grand Cru St.-Emilion & a Aussie cabernet/shiraz. Had more in common with the Bordeaux than the others. Proof that Tuscany can do Bordeaux blends.

It takes awhile for Olive Hill to come around. This was drinking beautifully with NYE dinner 2014. Lush fruit & good structure. Sonoma doesn't get the respect it deserves for some of its cabernets. This wine from B.R. Cohn is always a sleeper.

One of the members of my wine group gave me this wine, I'm not familiar with the producer, but I am enthusiastically familiar with the Apalta Vineyard. This was lovely. Dark plum & smoke with a faint meatiness, I'm not sure who provided me with this bottle but, thanks.

Alejando Fernandez is a master of Tempranillo. This property is one of the most under rated spots in Ribera del Duero, Good vintage, poor vintage, it doesn't matter, Alejandro makes good wine, because he takes care of his property & his grapes. It shows in his wines,

Back in the day, Rick Forman got very little respect from the wine press. His wines were tight & lean upon release but damn if this one didn't age beautifully. Tasted like a mature Bordeaux to me. Lovely.
