Aged Napa versus Aged Bordeaux at Cork Vault (Charlotte, NC): Opened to close the evening. Deeply rich amber-brown in appearance. Fantastic balance of sweet notes and acid, this sweet wine displayed tasty flavors of apricot, orange marmalade, caramel, and a hint of honey. A worthy capstone on the evening this rich, savory “sauterne” had a beautifully long finish. Universal praise for this closing selection.

4/12/21, 7:15 AM - Glad to see notes about VdC .

In the mid nineties, you could have them by the glass and a great way to end an evening in one of the relais & chateau around the cape was to have a few glasses in different vintages lined up at your table with your dessert(s)

More than the wine, looking at all the glasses exhibiting different colors of the many vintages brings back great memories, above all, in a candle-lit environment.

Most of the wine listed belong to my favorites and i would add Sadie Family Wine , particularly, all the whites from the Old Wine Series that at now at 10 years of age are starting to be serious wine . Also Lismore Estate is worth to mention.

    Cheers !

Really looked forward to this wine. Tasted over the hill. I will blame it on poor storage for now. Purchased from WineBid.

Platter tasting (By UG): Ruby red color. On the nose ripe dark cherries and plums. Same on the palate with also soft earthiness, beautiful oak, mild and soft tannin with still just enough bite and pleasant acidity. A great beautiful and mature and also elegant wine and great for someone like me who is fond of Bordeaux. This is a great (if not the greatest) Bordeaux style South African wine.

Consumed a bottle with my wife and a piece of very good Blue Stilton. The combo was to die for. A nice sweetness, not too much, with good acidity as a balance. After drinking this bottle I bought the 2012,2007,2009,2000 and 1990. I have some nice evenings coming in the future :-)

Kanonkop, perfect, classic, 14years young, ruby red, bargain at any price, drink it now to enjoy, perfect with a bottle of Paul Sauer 1998, if you can get it !!!!! Just very good and true to Kanonkop, verbal accolades not sufficient to describe a near perfect red. Drinking graph inspires / fosters confidence!! Well done...once again..And by the way, it pairs with any good food!
