Day-1: opened up initially very soft and plush with balanced cherry and raspberry fruit, gunsmoke, iris, and some whispers of potting soil. However, the grip of the wine started to take a stronger stance as the night continued. I will give an update tomorrow to see how this develops.

This wine is built for the long haul. The first taste of this was coiled tight and foreboding, but after a couple days after being recorked on the counter, this started to show its vigorous red raspberry fruit, wet gravel, hints of leafy herbs, and sharpened pencil. The tannins are intense but silky and the acidity is high. This is a delicious St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil.

Split consumed over 4-days. Still quite tannic on the day-3, but really mellowed out on day-4 where the overall mouthfeel has really become something special. Red raspberry and cherry fruits are prominent, along with subtle stone, pencil lead, and dust. I was an early hater of the Bordeaux ‘17s, but maybe these will turn out just fine. This had good potential!

This bottle was a little flat at first, but really started to open up with an hour of air. What a treat!

GC wines are so underrated in regards to ageability. This was drinking spectacularly at PnP.

A bit more tannic than I remembered. Needed a solid two-hours of air to really open up, and honestly could have used more. Overall, delicious and a great accompaniment to steak dinner. The acidic is starting to creep a little high for my personal preference as a stand alone drinker, but again, great with dinner.

This is drinking well already, even with its young age. Looking forward to seeing if it develops more complexity with time.

Maybe a point better than last time, but still not what I had hoped for.

First experience, but I would guess this at peak maturity. The mix of aged oxidative notes with still fresh fruit and citrus were all in harmony.

Quite good. I don't know the exact wine makeup, but this must have some other grapes beyond chardonnay, as beyond the typical chard notes, there were hints of the northern Rhone. Overall, great acidity and body.

This certainly showcases what Walla Walla and Rocks District Syrah’s are capable of. This has the complexity and funk of many wines from the region, but is able to present such with a class, elegance, and lift that seems unobtainable by most. The nose is discernibly Walla Walla/Rocks funk, full of smoked meats, bramble, kirsch, olive, and dark fruits. On the palate, however, this is elegant and classy with silky tannins and an incredible lift. This is certainly a good wine.

I'm just recently introduced and a fan of Soave, but man is this good. Has the weight and character of white burgundy for a fraction of the price. Maybe a hint of white Rhone, but not much. The Foscarino certainly has more oak influence, but nothing to ward off the clean white fans like me.

I've tried several of vintages of Flying B and although they were always fine, they never struck me as my style/preference. This bottle, however, was different. Still modern, but possessing a subtle elegance and lift that I haven't seen in others. Very enjoyable.

This may need a little more time to settle down and integrate that most years as there seemed to be more oak forwardly present than normal. In fact, I don’t remember ever noticing any oak notes, which would make sense as I don’t recall the winemaking involving much if any. Anyway, still a go to white in our house. Delicious!

This bottle was much better than my first, bright red fruit, racing acidity, good sense of place and a light mouthfeel. Was a great food wine.

This is by far the best bottle of three. PnP, but definitely got better with an hour of air. Most certainly at peak maturity without showing any signs of being over the bill. Rich red and black fruits, menthol, orange peel, anise, fresh cut flowers, and a subtle sense of vanilla spice. Absolutely spectacular!

This is one of the more surprising tasting experiences I can remember of late. I had tasted this wine back in 2019 and it showed a lot of promise, but was tough to drink due to the overwhelming tannins and acidity. However, even though this is a screw cap, it significantly tamed itself. My surprise, however, is how much this Petite Syrah is blind tasting like a terroir driven Super Tuscan. This had loads of plumb, red and black fruits, some black tea spices, vanilla and chocolate, all supported by an exquisite sense of place and earth. Overall, this was fantastic!

Notes based on day-2 tasting. Day-1 was good, but not near day-2 in quality.

Typical roussanne stone fruits, honey suckle floral notes and a short-medium finish. Good acidity at room temp. Seems like it could drink well for a few more years. Good stuff.

Leaning on the modern side of things this was good, but not great. Pretty hot, especially on day two, but had big Napa style fruit with some hints of chocolate and maybe some violet. Very primary at the moment with little representations of its terroir. Maybe with time this will balance out, but this is a crowd pleasure wine for sure. Nothing to disappoint.

Another great Côte d’Or from Michael Bouzereau. This wine has become one of our house whites and this vintage continues to show why. Bright citrus acidity with a weighted backbone that keeps this in check. A lovely floral finish. Delicious!

Always a house favorite and one that holds a special place in our hearts. Vieux Telegraphe has been apart of many great memories. The 2015 is so approachable already and although I don’t see it faltering soon, I also don’t see it improving much. It is light on the palate with graceful red fruits, good acidity, a earthy center, and a long finish. We love this vintage.

I don’t typically find myself falling in love with many Italian wines, but this is definitely an exception. I first tasted this a few months ago and it immediately blew me away. This bottle didn’t disappoint. It’s big, but not overpowering, with bright red and black fruits, spice notes, salty minerality, and a lovely finish. This is drinking well now with a few hours of air and will certainly last for decades to come.

I was surprised at how good this was. Initially a bit closed, but some time in the glass and some warming up to room temperature really did this wonders. Typical northern Rhône stone fruits, mango, pineapple, and a waft of sweetness is fully offset by bright acidity that really brings this into balance and keeps this in check, which I’m really digging. This drinks well above its price point.

The best part of this wine is how graceful it is on the palate. Waves of silk carry red and black fruits, cigar ash, wet stones, minty lift, flower shop aromas, and some slight hints of maturing fruits. This has become almost a touch sweet, but it doesn’t carry the weight of such. The acidity is characteristic of a traditional Bordeaux, especially with some age. Always love this wine.

This 2017 only took about an hour or so of air to balance out and start showing it’s stuff. The ruby purple color and medium body led the charge to a whimsical mouthful of bright red cherry, strawberry, blackberry, ash, orange peel, smoked meats and some stoney minerals. Graciously smooth but lingering tannins keep this elevated and able to keep up with your meal. This never seem to disappoint. Cheers!

Mature bordeaux nose, hardly any bricking, higher acidity, and some black and red fruits still holding on with integrated tannins. This was an amazing treat, and very unexpected. Delicious!

This still has life left!

Delicious. Utterly smooth and graceful on the palate with fine grained subtle tannins are supported by beautiful tomato, sour red cherry, nutty forest, and currant. This is drinking splendidly as a PnP.

First tasting of Weathereye. I’m a big fan on Todd Alexander’s work, so I was looking forward to tasting these wines. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment. Again, this was full of medicinal characters, strong scratchy tannins, and a long finish. Pretty muted beyond that. This was the most enjoyable of thr Weatheryes I tasted, but still not what I expected.

First tasting of Weathereye. I’m a big fan on Todd Alexander’s work, so I was looking forward to tasting these wines. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment. Strong medicinal notes, lots of smoke, and some hints of chocolate. Again, this one had a great mouthfeel, but was not much better than the Grenache on the nose or on the palate.

First tasting of Weathereye. I’m a big fan on Todd Alexander’s work, so I was looking forward to tasting these wines. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment. The alcohol was strong and forward and there was a significant medicinal characteristic to the nose and palate. There are some notes of red and black currant, but beyond that it was really muted. The thing it had going for it though was a great mouthfeel. That was awesome.

Coiled really tight right now, but wow this wine is good and has so much potential. Very old world character, scratchy tannins that linger on the front palate, sweet black and blue fruits, subtle hints of vanilla and Asian spice, truffle, and slate. If you’re ok with tannins or have this with dinner you’ll love it, but I can’t wait to enjoy this as it settles down.

This might be a tad backwards since a year ago, but still delicious. The acidity comes out a little more as it warms up, which really helped the balance. The finish seems rather short today. Hopefully it was just an off day.

Lots of potential, but too big and young right now to make it easy to see. At first the acidity and tannins were way overwhelming, but it was made easier with lamb chops. Bright red cherry, sour strawberry, kirsch, toasted hazelnut, saline and a long winding finish. I won’t touch this again for 5+ years, but can’t wait to see this in 20+!

First Delmas experience. The nose is definitely old world, but the mouthfeel is certainly more modern. However, that is not a dig on the wine, as it is completely elegant and graceful even with the Rocks complexities. I’m loving this level of Rocks funk. It’s present, but nowhere overpowering like I find from some houses. Beautiful fruit and a long cooling finish. Tannins are secondary to all else, but they linger for minutes. Delicious!

Starting to flirt with its early drinking window, this was beginning to hint at what greatness is to come. Elegance, grace, and balance are at the forefront of this conversation, as they were impeccable and truly stole the show. The fruit is strong and inviting, but not overpowering, while the tannins, which have always been fine and velvety in previous tastings, are more seamless than a year ago. This is rumored to be viewed as a perfect wine by the winemakers and I can see its potential. It'll be fun to see if it gets there. 95-98+

Seeming to start its journey into early maturity, this was truly a delight and only to get better. The tannins and oak are starting to well integrate, while the fruit is still strong but adding in some tertiary notes. My favorite part was the weight and body, however. It carried itself with a level of elegance and grace, while still teasing you with its youth. Outstanding with more upside if you have the patience.
