Deep ruby with reflections of purple. This wine is always pretty and poised, but this vintage seems downright statuesque. Airy on the nose with aromas of just ripe blackcurrants, black cherries, a little crème de mûre, violets, fresh mint, toast, graphite, and spice. Medium to full bodied with medium+ acidity that cuts a swath across the palate. The tannins are fine and tight, the fruit ripe but nicely balanced with savory earth flavors, and the finish is so crisp and clean you'd think you were drinking Nahe Riesling. This is refreshing Cabernet on a level one doesn't find in Napa anymore.

4/25/23, 10:17 AM - As a long time corison collector I would say these age very well and begin to enter their drinking window at 8-10 years of bottle age. We are just opening our 2012s now and they are shining. These wines typically have decades of life and are built for the long haul. Of course every vintage is unique but that is my general impression of Cathy’s wines.

Decent weekday drinker. Best second day when aromatics and flavors are a bit more pronounced. Vanilla lurks in the background.

7/3/22, 12:16 PM - Completely agree with this score and review. A real find. Just bought 2 more cases and think this vintage punches well above its weight class. Day 2 flavors are interesting enough to see what will happen in a few years and will lay a few down. Great wine. Stock up.

Quite disappointed by this wine. I had high hopes for it based on CT reviews and price point. Nose has anise and blueberries. Palate is just not well integrated. Feels harsh in the beginning followed by blueberries and cigar. Wine is okay ... just not well balanced for a wine at this price point.

1/22/22, 2:39 AM - These wines are made in a classic style and typically need 8-10 years to settle and enter their drinking window. If you have other bottles I would lay them down until 2026 or decant no less than 6 hours.

Two hours in the decanter and it didn't last more than an hour once we started drinking. Red and black fruits and just enough minerality to support the fruit. Smooth tannins and just a pleasure to drink. Paired with charcuterie but would be perfect by itself. I appreciate Dunn bucking the trend and keeping the alcohol in check so the fruit can shine.

A little light in weight for a Quintessa. Needs more time, but I don’t sense it will have the same strength in the end that I’m accustomed to feom this vineyard

10/4/19, 9:35 AM - Agree with this. Have had a few bottles of this vintage over the last year and all were a bit underwhelming. Am really hoping these develop with age but they are definitely not there yet. Could it be closed down?
