4/23/24, 5:54 AM - Thank you winotim! Nita & my's first vacation together was Fl in 1978. We stayed at the Hilton on the beach in Clearwater. Remember a beautiful turquoise / pastel pink sunset. We had lunch in the area 2 yrs ago again. The area has grown & gotten a lot busier. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
3/30/24, 4:07 AM - I had a little left over and tried it again last night. Liked it even less than the first night. Took on a heady character.
3/30/24, 4:05 AM - Yep, it was a tasty dish.
11/14/23, 2:36 PM - Thanks stockerwalter for reading my note and kind invite. I love that btl so hopefully yours will live up to my praise :). Only been to Switzerland once back in 2001with my wife & then 2 high school kids but what beautiful landscape! We spent a a couple nights in the village of Murren in the summer and hiked near the Eiger. Breathtaking! Loved taking the train through Switzerland from Austria on our way to France. CheersCraig/chablis28
3/26/24, 10:21 AM - Thanks for reaching out essconsults and sharing your passion for Burgundy.Well, 05 certainly joined 99 as one of the more stubborn vintages IMO. Looking back at my TNs, 10 of 15 '05 RBs I tasted since 2020 got scores of 93+ ... from me. Before that most were getting 87-91 from me. I'm not Burgundy Al though :). I tend to score higher than he does. I'm very gung-ho on 2010s in their youth which I've so far pretty much universally admired. Now, I'm just trying to let my remaining '10s get to at least 2025+ before drinking more them, if possible. I rarely go deeper than 3btls of any vintage so I really appreciate using CT to avoid drinking all 3 too early. At 68 / 69 in August I'm trying to back off buying more red Burgs and see if I can reduce my cellar size enough to eliminate off-site storage hassle. And, maybe even give my out of warranty, liver a break! CheersCraig/chablis28Minneapolis St Paul
3/27/24, 8:48 AM - Funny, I'm lucky in that I have no mobility issues whatsoever. I've climbed 4 mountains with guides but my last was Fall 2019. I've since had my heart checked since a younger sister had open heart surgery for blockages. No symptoms but I too had some & got 2 stints in August. Going to Glacier in August with Nita and our adult kids & grand kids. Plan to do some 10-mile 3000 ft elevation gain hikes but nothing requiring a guide. My big passion (obsession) since fly fishing the Montana's Maddison River in Sept 2022 is fly fishing! So I'll do as much of that as Nita will allow on the trip. For now, I still feel like a 40yr old knock-on wood! Even with a does of reality in August :). Hard to accept I'm an old guy to everyone under 65:) Keep exploring and enjoying your cellar! I recently bought a 2019 Barthod Chambolle village that I loved. Plan to grab ...3 more. I do admire the 2019s I've had so far. CheersCraig / chablis28Twin Cities Mn
3/10/24, 4:54 AM - Thanks shrages! Been quite a while since I've had one of these. K&L stopped shipping to MN a good while ago. I agree with everything you said. The Bonville is available in the Twin Cities at Total Wine but the price is high and I'm not a TW fan anyway. The Bonville is refreshing but pretty simple. Better BdBs for the money like R&L Legras. I am going to seek the Arnold out again once I verify that K&L is shipping here again as I heard recently. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
1/23/24, 6:54 AM - Thanks, Decanting Queen! Great to hear from you! We were in a deep freeze for a week but today is in the 30s in MN. I'm going fly fishing on Thursday on the nearby Rush River in Wi. Yea, winter is on the downslope, I think :)CheersCraig/chablis28
2/21/24, 5:57 PM - Absolutely! If not now when:) Congrats Craig/chablis28
2/19/24, 2:17 PM - A steal! $205 on the list for 2020 and they didn’t list it as Clos des Barr. They may not have known the distinction between it and straight Meursault? They had a great list but most over priced as usual.
2/19/24, 2:40 PM - My wife has advancing MS and we have to keep luggage simple for the walker we bring along and airport transfers. We did carry on and I left my stuff at home.We definitely BYOB on road trips which is what mostly do now.I’m trying to talk Nita into Tuscon but likely Fl next year for a shorter fly.
2/19/24, 10:14 PM - Thanks for the kind thoughts. We’re doing fine. Just can’t do everything we used to. Yep will reach out if ever in AZ. Welcome to look us up in Mn too. Had a very mild winter this year. Will be in the 50s when we get back. Best Craig/ chablis28
2/19/24, 2:12 PM - I will give this more thought when back home. Off the top though I still see value in anything at any level from Chevillon for reds. I love Fevre Chablis up and down. Too bad the bargain pricing is over but Fevre delivers. I also enjoy Arnox Robert’s Ca Chards with a year or 3 past release. Trout Gulch is great. Watson is often great too. I try to grab Puligny Village if reasonable.
2/19/24, 12:55 PM - I’m sure they have this dialed in. Better options for same or slightly more elsewhere.
2/9/24, 5:46 AM - Thanks Vinus_O for the note! This producer, even more than most, in Piedmont confounds me but then, Barolo can be hard to figure out drinking windows & prep in general. I have 2 left and still waiting for close to ideal window. Cheers Chablis28/Craig Twin Cities MN
2/1/24, 7:12 AM - Mine are all gone since 2018, thankfully. Jason, may love these. Perhaps open for him but don't bring it to the Feb even :). Serve low temp might help or dilute with fresh spring water :)
1/23/24, 12:03 PM - Yep WineDuq, great stuff but too bad about the price jump! CheersCraig/chablis28 Twin Cities MN
1/20/24, 12:31 PM - Thanks for the heads-up tward. I only bought the one so shouldn't be an issue for me unless this TN belongs to another wine? If, I need to change something just let me know. Otherwise, Ill assume I'm good. This was a one off for me. BestCraig/chablis28
1/19/24, 12:25 PM - Thank you for catching my mistake. Yes Genevrières was the 3rd btl. Copy and pasting sanfu!
1/17/24, 10:05 AM - Thank you repoper for scoring the wine. I only have one left and wondering if you found this past prime or other factors influenced your low score. With only one left I'm hoping to open mine when I see a CT consensus on its best window. Appreciate any thoughts you can offer. I drank my first btl in 2016 and found it needing much more cellar time 7yrs ago. Regards chablis28/CraigTwin Cities MN
1/15/24, 7:04 AM - Thanks Matt, it was a delightful day! We had planned to go back to Dubuque for the weekend and celebrate but the weather there was a lot like our wedding day in 1979 when it snowed 16" and we lost half of our guest to travel issues. Well celebrate instead this summer in DBQ :). It was my idea to get married in January??? Didn't want to lose her by waiting till a more sensible season :). Craig
1/9/24, 11:32 AM - Sorry thesternowl, don't let my notes be your guide. More my personal relationship with it :). I'm a bit grumpy about this wine still existing in my cellar since I'm not in love with it. I do think its ready to drink with a decant to clear the sediment. Had I decanted it, I may have enjoyed it more. I kind of think I don't own more but CT says I do. If, I do its in my offsite storage.
1/10/24, 9:55 AM - Yep, speaking of "plenty of btls". Several years ago I realized I was drinking my really good btls too soon and started buying QPRs on a reg basis. Now, I have to slow down my QPR buying and get used to the idea of drinking some of my higher end stuff more often. Even during the week :). I have many really good btls in their mid-drinking windows but, I'm still reluctant to open them most days between Sunday & Thursday :). And, I lean too much towards wanting to open them only around my wine geek buddies vs family. I'm working on that.... Craig
12/30/23, 3:37 PM - La Grappe, thanks for the great note! I have one left and thinking of opening in 2026 for its 20th. Think it's peaking now or more upside still likely? CheersCraig/Chablis28Minneapolis St Paul MN
1/1/24, 3:32 PM - Thanks La Grape that's very helpful! Based on your feedback, I'll look to open my last for a special occasion within the next year or two. Cheers Craig / chablis28
12/30/23, 9:41 AM - Great note Ken! I'm still looking into grabbing a few of these. I was gun-shy with the ownership change but your, always reliable, note sounds promising! CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
1/1/24, 3:29 PM - Thanks KPB, I've never been a fan of the modernist, small cask producers and thought of the previous Cerbiaona owners as terroir driven & old school. Vintages change. The new regime sounds promising and in my wheel-house. Thanks for waying in! Craig/chablis28
12/30/23, 9:30 AM - Thanks Al, I have just one of these left & its fun to see how's coming. In hindsight, I drank my first 2 too early. This seems to be one of the most cellar worthy BdMs around. Even in '07 :). Not sure when Ill open my last but likely not till at least 2027+. CheersCraig/chablis28
12/26/23, 8:58 AM - Good to hear from you thesternowl! We were in Omaha this past summer for a night on our way to RMNP and enjoyed a downtown warehouse district seafood place. We drove around the Boys Town Campus after and was amazed by its scale and lovely grounds. Looks like a nice city! Happy New Years!Craig/chablis28
12/26/23, 2:10 PM - Will do, enjoy the next glass!Craig/chablis28
12/15/23, 8:02 AM - Great note ankitmehra! we've drank all but 1 of our btls. My most recent was in 2016 and it was great then. With only one left I'll likely hold it for a special occasion like my 70th in 2025. Definitely with close friends! Thanks for the note! Sounds like a great experience!Bestchablis28/CraigTwin Cities MN
12/14/23, 4:03 AM - Great to hear Joe! Glad you loved the '10 too! I too will attempt to grab some '18s when I get a chance. These definitely can evolve positively with age but are not completely forbidding in their youth either w/ air. 6 will give you a great opportunity to explore the aging curve and enjoy a couple at its peak down the road. Merry Christmas! Craig/chablis28
12/9/23, 3:03 PM - Great note claymonster! I'm sipping it now as we prepare dinner and finding your note spot on. I decided to decant mine based on your note and its paying off as this has a lot of acidity to calm a bit. CheersCraig/chablis28
11/21/23, 10:03 AM - Thanks Joe, great to hear. Thomas may have the best selection of Italian in the city. Pete has done a deep dive on Chianti in particular.
11/21/23, 9:54 AM - Web,III. I can't point to last premox experience I've had and you may be correct on 2014 fwd but, there's a pre-mox note below on this 2014. So, it may still be happening."Tasted by acheng on 10/2/2023: Oxidized."
11/21/23, 10:02 AM - May we all never experience pre-mox of great Chablis! I'm down to my last 4 or 5 Dauvissats ( can longer afford) and hit one there which was truly sad as it had been stellar with all the previous 07 Clos???
11/21/23, 1:27 AM - Greetings wineguydelmar, I can't answer your question w/ complete confidence as it was not my btl. I can say this. Another buddy of mine who was at the same dinner also wrote a note and selected this cuvee. rocknroller is typically very thorough about notes so I can only assume he selected the correct cuvee to post his note. My note came a few days later and I just used the cuvee he selected as it. Matt, the owner of that btl is on CT too. His handle is 10centpower if you want to ping him. cheers Craig/chablis28
11/21/23, 9:59 AM - Opps, meant to reply on the CVNE TN thread. I use the original version of CT 99% of the time and still not great at the occasional use of the newer red & Brn one. I prefer the original by a big margin :).
11/12/23, 8:31 AM - Hi Joe, my note is around 19 mos old but looking at current 2023 notes it still sounds open for business. So you could open the first anytime, I'd think? Open it a few hrs before drinking and decide if it needs more than a slow ox. Drink in Burg glasses for best results at temps below 65. chablis28 / Craig
11/5/23, 9:18 AM - ROBMCL920, what an awesome flight. Last time I tasted Monfortino was about 20yrs ago. Doubt I'll get the chance again. I own a couple of the 08 Giuseppe Rinaldi Le Coste and loved my first btl a few years back. I'm almost due for another 08 for the right occasion. I can only think of a couple guys in my group who might own a Morfortino and doubt I can engineer that tasting. Sure would be fun though! Thanks for the note!CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
11/7/23, 10:40 AM - Thanks Rob! Good to know about the '10 too!CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
11/3/23, 3:49 PM - Appreciate the great note Jamieson120! Wondering how much air you were you able to give it? I have 2 and LLC can have a long curve for the oak to meld but I believe '01 is a somewhat earlier maturing vintage? Will the fruit hold up for the tannins? Thanks for any further thoughts you may have. Bestchablis277/ Craig Twin Cities MN
10/31/23, 12:14 PM - Good to hear. Great producer! Should be awesome with plenty of air and in a Riedel Burg. Suggest open it up early then decide how much air. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
10/28/23, 8:50 PM - Thanks djt1956! I took a peak at your cellar & you have a wonderful vertical of Le Chiuse! Lucky man! Best Craig/Chablis38
10/29/23, 1:41 PM - Thanks Don, Ill reach out to them and see what they have. BestCraig/chablis28
4/23/23, 9:54 PM - LOL I'd love to have 6 :) One left and I'll take my time getting to it. Cheers EnffantterribleCraig/chablis28
10/28/23, 1:03 AM - Great to hear Brian of Mull! Believe I only have one left. Thanks for reading my note. Allemand Cornas is great stuff!Bestcraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
10/27/23, 1:45 PM - Thanks drwine2001! I always enjoy & appreciate your notes. I saw your comments but rolled the dice anyway since 05s are unpredictable. Just had a killer 05 Rossonal Trapet Chambertin Wednesday night that started out unimpressive at home. I double decanted it and it totally rocked at the restaurant in my Burg glass. Went from thinish & ubber tight at home to amazing fruit concentration & complexity at dinner. It was far more interesting than a flight companion 13 Rousseau Charmes. Then again Chambertin should top Charmes :). But vs Rousseau it was not anticipated. 05s ! The RT Chambertin lived up to the hopes for 05. CheersCraig/chablis28
10/28/23, 1:01 AM - Thanks drwine2001 that's a great point. Perhaps we are turning the corner on the '05s. My 05 Rossignol Chambertin on Wednesday night was beautiful with proper time in the decanter and a good amount of time back in the btl sans cork, before drinking that night. It was superb!BestCraig/chablis28
10/27/23, 10:10 AM - Absolutely! thankfully a couple guys in my local group bought a few! Lopez makes amazing wine and especially the Grans! If only each of my buddies and I had grabbed more a while back! Can't be many left in our group? CheersCraig/chablis28
10/27/23, 11:02 AM - Good point Harley. I just love Lopez. Wish I could drink the Grans a little more often but theyre rare and getting very spendy.
10/21/23, 2:56 PM - Good to hear from jnewman77! If I ever get back to the Madison River in West Yellowstone Mt for some fly fishing we should open some btls. CheersCraig / chablis28
10/23/23, 4:44 AM - That would be great. I've never floated. Last trip to Madisson was 100% wading and a ton of hiking :). Someday, I'll try a float trip but I love wading. Wading is one of the things about fly fishing that separates it from any other type of fishing. I love it! Gallatin would be great.BestCraig/chablis28
10/15/23, 7:12 AM - Thanks for the helpful note Sean! Had a very nice btl in 2022 & 2 left. My next likely 2025-2028.CheersCraig/chablis28
10/15/23, 7:50 AM - Can't argue with that :) I might put Rousseau in my top spot but I can no longer afford them or even keep the Rousseau's I still own. Trapet is right there and still a much much better value than Rousseau. At least for the moment till others get more excited about Trapet. I also love Mugneret Gibourg. Richer style but extremely pure & balanced is Mugeret Gibourg's Clos des Ruchottes and their entire lineup. Fun to ponder and even more fun to drink!CheersCraig/chablis28
10/17/23, 9:13 AM - Hey Sean, sorry for the tardy reply. Had a wine dinner & went fly fishing all day yesterday. I can't really answer your question as I've had a only a couple Rossignol but I believe J&L has the better reputation. That said, I'm drinking a 05 RT Chambertin next week and will have a fresh data point to share then.BestCraig/chablis28
10/8/23, 2:15 PM - Thanks reading the note guys. I grabbed a 2nd btl today. Would have been more but I had another spending priority on some soon to run out 21 Robert Arnot Trout Gulch locally :) Also, a great btl of Chardonnay. CheersCraig / chablis28
10/9/23, 8:37 AM - $56 here. Used to be $36. I still really like the wine but the jump was a tough pill to swallow.
10/9/23, 1:31 AM - Thanks Acidqueen for the update on this wine 9yrs hence! Delighted its drinking well now. My last of 2 btls was 2015 so I'll likely never get to revisit. I completely agree that Barolo and Barbaresco can show up nothing like expected. I find both the most daunting of reds to find the best drinking windows of any I own. Cheerschablis28/Craig
10/8/23, 2:28 PM - Wow! Lafon has grown to be my all-round favorite white Burg producer, bar none. This just inspired me to grab a couple btls of the Lafon Meursault Baronne. Can only imagine how good the Montrachet is but anything I've had from Lafon has been a head turner, in my world. CheersCraig/chablis28
10/6/23, 2:09 PM - Got mine at Thomas. I go once a month and buy 12 btls to get 20% off. Most of the time ( not every btl, but most ) their 20% off case price is lowest in the nation. Thier selection is really fun and bigger than the tiny shop looks like. Only drawback for me is the distance but buying a case once a month makes it effective.
9/25/23, 11:25 AM - Great to hear as I'm a fan of this cuvee since i first had the '96 long ago . I'd never spend this kind of money without expecting a Tete Cuvee champagne to be a head turner. Many producers of $125+ Tete Cuvees have let me down but not Comte. I have 3 12s and can't wait to try one!RegardsCraig/chablis28
12/19/22, 8:39 AM - Yea!
9/21/23, 6:26 AM - Thanks palfr2 for reading my note and your takes. Have a great fall Best Craig / chablis28
9/11/23, 2:39 PM - Xenon sounds like a great deal! I just grabbed 6 NV Bollinger Special Cuvee here for $59.95 ea. I imagine its less in Europe too? Almost all of the Tete Cuvees like Tait's Comte jumped from just over $100 for 06 to $200 plus for the 2012! Yikes! Too bad I love the Tait Comte! The Bollinger is still a good deal in the US market. Cheers!Craig/Chablis28
9/5/23, 12:33 PM - Nita's and my favorite cafe in Paris!
9/1/23, 4:30 PM - Thank you rwschmitt1 for the enticing note! I need to open one of mine in the next month or 3! Cheerschablis28/Craig Twin Cities MN
9/2/23, 3:11 PM - Thanks again, I'm a relatively new fan of the producer and excited to drink a 16. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
8/13/23, 9:14 AM - Great to hear from you tward! Drinking windows are just an educated guess. CT helps a lot but still so many variables. Especially, how the btl traveled and was stored before it got to you & I. I literally drive all my local btls straight home and put right into one of my 3 cabinets if I'm planning to age them for anytime. My btls from Ca retailers, who knows :). Its interesting how many (in theory) expired drinking window btls get offered by retailers like Envoyer & many enjoyed regardless. I took a gamble and bought 2 basic cuvee Inglenook Cabs from '91 through Envoyer. Hopefully at least one still rocks :) The fills looked great. Cheers Craig/chablis28Twin Cities
8/13/23, 10:48 AM - Thanks tward. Yep, Gregs a reputable and knowledgeable person. I'm sure he does his best. I mostly dabble in old stuff under $200 and most of those under $100. I've been tempted by aged $200 plus btls but too fearful of bad luck vs cost :). BestCraig/chablis28
8/13/23, 9:19 AM - Thanks Tim, nice to hear from you and share Nebbis challenge of drinking windows and airtime. Barolo is my single toughest region to predict good prep = success. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN USA
7/20/23, 11:47 AM - Greetings Juliansi! First off, what time is it where you're at! 1:40 / 13:40 PM in MN USA.All of these older btls like the 83 Mouton need to be treated as one offs since it has 40yrs under its belt. They all vary. I would open it 3hours ahead, take a taste and decide if its PnP or needs any time open. General advice for older wines is open 30 minutes to an hour before. But btls do vary so it may not be the best advice. Also, I like to stand them up a day or 2 ahead tilted with sediment collecting under the back lable and ask everyone to pour from the same direction to keep the sediment under control. Enjoy, should be awesome wine if it was stored well for the past 40.CheersCraig/chablis28 30 miles from downtown Minneapolis MN
7/21/23, 4:59 AM - Just a quick note. Heading to local river for some trout in a few minutes. Decant is the ultimate if the wine will take the air and you have the time. Makes pouring bullet proof :). Regards Craig/chablis28
7/23/23, 12:34 PM - Thanks Juliansi, any day spent a beoutiful cold water river is a plus! Caught a couple nice Brown Trout. Hope the '83 rocks!Cheerscraig/chablis28
7/26/23, 5:06 AM - Success! The aged btls can be amazing. Glad it showed well!Craig/chablis28
7/22/23, 3:57 AM - Wow, way to hang in there Doug! Think I have one left? Just had a very nice 08 Marechale. CheersCraig/chablis28Twin Cities MN
7/23/23, 12:36 PM - Glad it worked out! Just had a lovely Mugnier 08 Clos Marechale that was dam close to Chambolle in weight & finesse. Loved it!BestCraig/chablis28
