Out of town friends @ Republique; 7/31/2019-8/6/2019: “Persistent as fuck”. Which it was. The wine had all of the hallmarks of classic D’auvenay, powerhouse smoky yellow fruited nose with white pepper and flint. The palate is just absolutely brimming with rich golden fruit, there’s serious weight on the wine as it just crushes the mid palate deep into the finish. Has bracing powerful minerality and sparkle and an equally broad frame that’s completely filled out by the raw material. Every time having D’auvenay is a treat and an example why it’s probably the best white wine being made in Burgundy.

Had this from Robuchon menu, in great condition.
An awesome bottle, wonderful and super aromatic nose with cinnamon wild strawberry, herbs, and rosemary, similar to the nose for Bizot’s wine. On the palate, great structure and pure red currants/purple plum with modest spicy and mineral touch. Really nice. I think for his wine, the vineyard and vintage do make big difference given the natural wine making, they need slightly more powerful plot/ vintage to deliver more expressive underlying structure.

2nd of 3, decanted 80 minutes, perfect cork and level - this has now come out to play (unlike very dumb first bottle in 09) if still very young with deep, dark and rather dense, compared with de Vogue, robe and undeveloped rim; classy, authoritative bouquet, more black fruit than red, meaty, iron core, attractively spiced, rich but fresh and pure; fullish and round, very long, persistent and concentrated, sweetish fruit masking broad tannic structure, nice acid balance if without the added lift of the VA in the de V bottle, but overall a tad more complexity and potential. VF+ (19)…...fun and constructive to go between the Roumier and de Vogue 98s, very different styles but both with weight of fruit to be the master of this tannic vintage!

First time tried his Côte du Py, I was really impressed. The color was beautiful, clear purple violet, on the nose, a bit of grassy in the beginning, but the aroma gradually evolved to a bit more plummy and dark cherries, on palate, got a lot of red cherry fruits, modest gamey but quite pleasant type, the acidity was vibrant and dynamics, with a finish of cherry skin sweetness. Quite an amazing wine with great value.

Slow oxed for one hour before serving. Nose has perfume, vr spice, sweet red fruit, flowers hawflakes, smoked fruit, coffee bean, and green tinge. Palate is initially expressive but light but it starts to explode with so much fruit and power with more time in the glass. This is ridiculously good tonight. It is accessible now with long life ahead. The depth, finesse, elegance and complexity of La tache are just out of the world. Not as good as 96 La Tache but better than 01. 96-97

From two magnums out of a total bottling of 500 magnums! White gold, curious richness and power. Batard Montrachet like! I then get mind bending notes of redcurrants and red Pinot notes which shouldn't be able to exist in a 100% Chardonnay wine but yet I got them. Very full bodied, really coats the mouth, bit of a brute at the moment but exceptionally long and rich but fantastic uplift and balance. Will be interesting to try this again in 10 years but hard to justify buying this over the normal vintage Krug.
