Excellent, a very pleasant surprise! Althought bought at the winery and always kept at 12C the ullage was a bit high for the age, slightly below top of the shoulders. The color was mature but no tinge of brown. On the nose and on the palate it seemed at peak, well balanced but vibrant, integrated tannins, strong berries, plums, and faded roses with a touch of pepper and herbs. Overall an elegant and versatile wine.

Not yet ready but excellent. The tannins are subdued and I expect it will be ready in just a few years but will certainly hold for a decade or more.

Compared to my previous two tastings (from 750 ml bottles) it tasted much better from a magnum. No sure if the improvement came from bottle age or because champagne from magnums is better. (See https://www.decanter.com/learn/champagne-size-matters-309127 ) It is not good value for money by any means, but it is not embarassingly bad for a Rhys.

Very pale, light body. Medium minerality and some bitter notes. Short finish. I like their "Manzanilla pasada en rama de la Pastora" but this bottling is rather disappointing

2016 is the best Barolo vintage in quite a while, with unusually large production, so it is not surprising that Costco found & resells a good deal. Right now the wine is closed and tannic but after 24 hours of aeration one can easily smell and taste the potential. For $20 the quality is mind boggling but I doubt it will be ready before 2024.

Now for the detective part? Who makes it? The obvious guess is Fontanafredda, since the label shows a "Villa Reale in Serralunga" that sits on the Fontanafredda estate. (And BTW includes a restaurant "La Cantina di Guido" with excellent food & a most amazing Barolo list). OTOH (a) the bottle is marked "Albeisa" which indicates a producer that is a member of "Unione Produttori Vini Albesi" and Fontanafredda is not. (see https://albeisa.it/en/wine-maker/ ) (b) Galloni says "The 2016 [Fontanafredda] Barolo is a soft, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years. This is an especially forward, open-knit Barolo that offers a good deal of immediacy (89)" -- well the Kirkwood is anything but this, and it would be strange to think that F would sell the more age-worthy juice as a second wine. OTOH Fontanafredda also sells a 2016 Barolo Serralunga (that Galloni rates 91). The Kirkland is marked Serralunga so maybe it is a twin of that. We need a Hercule Poirot here.

The red La Copa Vermouth is excellent, and great on its own. The white has pronounced sherry notes, but is much less balanced, and probably useful only for mixing.

From half bottle. Very well balanced, easily enjoyable wine. Delicate but clearly present aromas sweet fruits and citrus. Some aeration helped, but I would not go for hours. Probably at peak now, I don't think there is anything to be gained waiting for further development.

Very light colored. Fresh with nice salty notes, a bit short on the ending. I remember other bottles as being a bit more complex. Maybe Valdespino is seeking more differentiation between the en rama and the regular bottling.

This is a Malvasia from Salina a small island near Lipari. Although Malvasia delle Lipari is famously sweet, this one is a Malvasia Secca, fairly dry and floral. An uncomplicated wine, best chilled, with seafood pasta and warm weather.

As many other Rhys fans have noted, this was a big disappointment. Not ready for prime time. Good nose but dissipating very quickly, taste lacking in complexity, more like a simple chard with added sugar. I was really surprised by the low effervescence, maybe I got a badly sealed bottle or maybe they lost all the CO2 during disgorgement. In either case, not worth the price. I also have a magnum, I'll try it soon to see if it fares better.
