This is coming along very nicely. Ripe fruit with the framework to back it up and currently presents bold but in balance. The fruit is striking and forward. Blackberries and a bit of leather on the nose. Blueberries with a dollop of milk chocolate thrown in on the palate. Hunter all the way. Acid is right on. It's very generous and carries itself well. Think vat 9 or op&oh from the best years. Has more to give.

Drink now. Just past peak drinking but holding well. Rich, dense and ripe.

Oak dominated and I suspect it will forever. It's sappy and heavy handed but there is some big Shiraz fruit in there too. Smooth tannin line redeems the dominating vanilla oak, acid good but some cork artifacts are showing. The large cork itself was over half way stained via imperfections. It's WA shiraz in a traditional SA mould, for me. Lots of tartrate residue in the bottle.

Cool climate shiraz with pepper and spice on the nose. Palate sweeter than expected in a good way, balance perfect with long finish. Meaty bits, touch of green but all sitting nicely and pulling up the reigns in time to make this a lot of fun.

Just awesome. Pure regional cab sav with a touch of age and great balance. Merlot gives bulk but not really noticable in the flavour profile. Lovely food wine here for a very reasonable price.

Lovely wine that is maturing slowly, and very well. With a recent tasting of the 2014 in mind, I enjoyed this wine a touch more. 2014 has more chocolate and perhaps more bulk but this has complexity, some prettiness on the nose and some wonderful blueberry notes and the gravelly finish that I normally see more in the Symphony. A cracking Simpatico with a long life ahead.

Very nice mid range hunter that is just showing a bit of age. Still needs some air and was good on night 2 also. Leather creeping in along with some primary fruit hanging on. Nice drinking. I would suggest drinking now over the next 5 years.

An obvious improvement over 2 years ago. A blend of Hunter, MV and Beechworth. Decent without any real excitement, but worth the wait just the same. I don't buy brokenwood anymore, they don't really produce wines of any value and this basically proves that rule.

Softened with a bit of age this is pretty typical of Barossa wine at a low to midrange price range. Salty, rich and a fair whack of added acid that is still ready to tear at your mouth on the back end. Very long. Fucked if I know why I bought this.

Lovely shiraz. Sweet fruits in blue and purple, oak supporting and a steely clean texture that drives a line through the wine and gives it a freshness that keeps you coming back. Some milk chocolate in the mix too. Opened and aired for 24 hours.

Such and interesting wine. First night I was good but only. It died quickly with too much air over an hour or so. A sealed bottle of half opened on night two was just fantastic. Long, fresh but with age, leathered acid driven hunter goodness. Great tannin finish.

Nice wine that needs a bit of air at this point in its life. Medium weight, fruit driven, cool climate shiraz with some black pepper spice. Blackberry nose that is surprisingly savory. Simple and easy to drink with complexity coming with air. Tiny touch of oak tannin.

1 hour decant and this is just singing. It just glides over the tongue. Clean silky bay leaf, five spice and red currant. A hint of tobacco creeping in with age and a long finish of solid silky tannin. Some anise and spice in the end and acid profile that wants you to drink it. It has a vigour but a sense of completeness also. It's in a great place, with a decant, so guessing it will peak in the next few years. I like it now.

Good vintage and seemingly nice fruit ruined by the use of oak that has made the wine overly sappy, changed the tannin and creates a bitterness that takes over the sweetness of the lovely ripe fruit. It actually really shits on all of the bright fruit flavours. Shame. Might be a better wine in a few years but never as good as it could have been.

Brett showing through now. This wine was under cork and would be good to compare against a screw capped one, which I will do one day. The wine is young and still lithe and youthful. The bretty nose is a bit distracting and I suspect this vintage may age well into something like Musar in 10-15 years. Acid forward, light and enjoyable. Not in a drinking window really at present for me. Hold for a miracle...

One word to describe a wine? This would be 'precise'. It is exact. There are no jagged edges here, no chips or cracks. It is crystalline shiraz and it works so well. It has a steel backbone that forgoes any warmth and cuddliness for purety and drive and wins against them all.

The overt sweetness is there but subsided a bit from a year or two ago. This is great drinking now but should still take on a bit more character in the next year or two. Very good.

Opened with some sweaty saddle bretty aromas and I decanted it and gave it a bit of time. One the nose the fruit a touch muted but the balance is spot on palate wise (as usual) and the influence of the oak is well judged. It drinks of the vintage, a bit dilute and wet but has that minerally grain to it that keeps you coming back. Sealed it up in a half bottle for the next day and the animale was a touch stronger but still very drinkable.

Really loved this wine. Opened up beautifully with pure cherry with a long rustic finish of underbrush and brambly goodness. Surprising really, expected harsher acid but it had aged into the wine really well. Perfect timing

Still completely primary with rich cassis, a touch of olive and licorice root in a concentrated reserve wine that feels very decadent at this point in time. Not huge on structure, it makes up for with quality berries. It is good drinking now but should welcome another 5 years easily and be better for it. Fine tannin, light in oak and acid perfect. Excellent. Drink now-2030.

Very well structured Nebbiolo. Needs a good decant at this stage, strawberry and a touch or licorice and orange. Only a hint of sweetness, backbone of tannin. Strong build.

An old Tahbilk shiraz that has had a hard life in three different cellars. It still has a classic Tahbilk character but the fruit has really dropped off leaving the alcohol and acid too prominent with a bit of sappy oak and tannin on the finish. Under screwcap with no oxidisation at all it really shows how ripe shiraz 'ages'.

This is now ready to go. Powerful but clean fruited, still a hint of grapefruit but citrus has dropped back and there is some butter and sweet peach pushing through. It is very long. Oak quality a bit distracting but only a minor quibble. Great wine at a good time in its life. Drink over next 3 years.

Sweet and savoury but big tannins needs some time. Rich fruit, perhaps a touch more merlot than necessary. Black olive nose with hint of licorice. Acid a bit harsh. Good wine, perhaps it will settle.

Probably picked this at the perfect time. Well made wine that satisfies without reaching any great heights. Touch of alcohol heat and barely noticable prickly acid but the lovely strawberry musk nose brings it along with the rustic elements of age. Good length for a mid range quaffer nearing its end of life. Drink immediately, slightly chilled.

After the brilliant 2010 and great 2012. Perhaps not quite as easy vintage but this wine is so very different to the past mentioned two. An apple in an onions clothing. Its ripe, which is probably the reason there is a bit of extra oak in this, but it is not a wine that sits happily in its shoes. Its an ok drink but lacks any resemblance to real cabernet. Bloated in regionality, sun and sappy oak this could have been much better. Nose sucks. Palate is very good. 90.

Still youthfull and bright, this is very a easy drinking cabernet with lots of juicy berries and very fine tannin that keeps you coming back for more. Likely to improve even further as the chocolate comes up and acid settles. Light on its feet but not lacking in flavor. 92.

This wine is going through a typical hunter transition. Its good at present but has lost a bit of youthful acidic brightness and settling in as a solid but perhaps not great hunter shiraz. It is certainly better than the typical Philip. Tannin support and acid give hope of a bit more life ahead where it should shine again. Give it another year or two if you only have a couple.

The wine is still drinking well but its definitely time to drink up. Its past the peak and will drop off reasonable fast I suspect. Its light to medium bodies with the pepper and meaty notes showing strongly. Still a perfect match with a spag bol or a spicy meat dish. It has lost the freshness of youth but still more than happy drinking this as a dinner wine.

Old Barossa Shiraz. One for your grandad. It was never a good wine, like the 2006, but perhaps this is at its best now if you like old shiraz which is unfortunately dominating the cabernet which has aged well. Ripe and raisny, smooth and chocolaty, alcoholic and not very drinakble.

Beautiful Hunter Shiraz at the beginning of its drinking window. Lovely balance, still some clean primary fruit on nose and palate but it has softened with age and has a lovely mouthfeel that just lingers on. It will likely get better but this would depend on you personal preference. It will gain some weight I suspect but it is in a great place right now. Drink over next 8-10 years.

Great McLaren Vale shiraz here, this vintage is sure to be a cracker in a few years time. Lush dark fruit with a spicy pepper and cola nose. Ripe and savory-sweet, oak at the right level and firm tannin driving a long finish. Reminds me of Marius in a lot of ways, minerality here too. Should be a giod celllaring prospect. Drink 2020-2028+.

Lighter style barossa blend of mataro shiraz grenache and cinsault with some age. Acid driven, juicy and moreish and probably at its peak although it was good on release. Grenache holding well. Nose a touch porty with some air but didn't come through on palate. Bit of saltbush does not distract. 90.

Slightly over the hill but drinkable. Last bottle so happy to taste it at this stage, bit of leather, alcohol was noticeable and some forest floor type secondary fruit character. This was best at 5-6 years from vintage. I am not sure if this label is still worth buying but this vintage was a great value pick.

In surprisingly good shape if you can deal with a lot of wood. Cold weather suits this ripe, boozy, oaky barossa flagship from the now defunct Colonial Estate. Less time in wood would have produced a much better result, the oak tannin being the major downfall. Fruit was good quality, dense and a touch overipe but true to the vintage. Not my style but credit for effort.
