2016 Clos du Marquis St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
What a disappointment. I am a great fan of the 2016 Potentsac, so I was hoping that this would be better. Alot of bitterness on the front end, and even after some time no improvement on the bitterness. Sad. Wife said she tasted lots of stems. She thought it was ok. Have 5 more bottles.

Paid $45. I loved it, wife thought it was too young. But after tasting it the next day, she really like it. It does add weight with time. Recommended

Bought at the winery many years ago, and left in the cellar of an old Italian house. Brought back to the US a couple of months ago, and had it for Thanksgiving. Has some noticeable age on it, but still very good. Can't wait to go back and drink fresher/younger bottles. The bora charonnay are better as a rule. These wines are meant for fish.

2018 Château Tour Saint-Christophe St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Well, had to try a bottle with such high scores. But the cork was redish pink, (I prefer it black red) and the taste was flat. Nothing bad, maybe with more age better??

Paid $45. I usually avoid St Estephe wines, as I have found too them too harsh when young, which is when I drink BDX wines. No cellar (san diego) and limited funds. But all I can say is wow, my additude will change now. I will buy more. Jeff (my north star) and Neal (advising people that can drink the wine 15 years from now) are correct, a very nice wine. Note the chalk is mild now, if it grows my score will increase. Chalk (lip smacking) is what I am after.

NOTE, I LIKE HANSEL WINES. I BUY A LEAST A CASE OF ALYCE CHARDONNEY EACH YEAR (WHEN THEY LET ME). THIS IS HIS BEST. l LOVE IT. MY REDS ARE BORDEAUX AND MY WHITES ARE HANSEL. UNLESS I AM IN NORTHERN ITALY, THEN A DIFFERENT STORY.

Well, I waited almost 2 years for the next bottle, paid $95.99, however the Clinet is still too young. Not rated because this is a good wine however it needs more time than I can give it.

Paid $140. Wow. This bottle reminds me of the second bottle, young and delicious. Took about a hour to show. Everything I like in a Bordeaux. Family was not interested in even having a sip. Bought more and planing to but more.

This is not a weak-kneed chardonnay. I would love to taste it when it is fully matured. No luck on that. I buy it by the case. Today I am having my next to last bottle after two cases. I usually get many cases of his chardonnay each year. Most friends and wife find it too strong, so Italian pinot grigio for them, Hansel for me.

2016 Château Lafon-Rochet St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Paid $54.95. My two least favorite areas of BDX is St ESTEPHE and PESSAC LEOGNAN, one is too bitter and one is not enough. The rest try to hit the spot correctly. But I have not had a ST E in a long time, so why not? one bottle. The bottle was empty before the steak meal had ended.
A good wine, not a favorite. Not rated.

Paid $125. When I opened it, it tasted thin with some bitterness. Cork end was rosy not dark, so I placed the cork lightly back and waited a day. It gained some weight and improved somewhat. I do think it will be great in the future. Still have one bottle. I am always hoping to catch these before they close. The 2018 didn't have this problem.

PAID $24.99. I AM A GREAT FAN OF POTENSAC, EVEN VISITED THE VINEYARD LONG AGO. NO TASTING ROOM JUST A SMALL CHAPEL. THE 2019 WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT, TOO WATERY. BUT SAME GREAT FLAVOR. CORK WAS PINK, NOT THE DARK RED OF OLDER WINES. HOPING JEFF-91 IS CORRECT AS I HAVE 5 MORE BOTTLES. AND WOULD BUY MORE IF IT THICKENS. I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED, BUT I DO NOT PLAN TO OPEN ANOTHER SOON. NO SCORE AS I ALWAY DRINK BEFORE ITS TIME.

Well, I been drinking the three 2018 Leovilles. The Las Cases is good, but needs lots of time. The Poyferre is excellent now. So I was expecting the Barton to be so-so. But this is an excellent wine. Even the wife and son liked it. They also like the P. So it has caused a problem, do I buy more P or B? Note Potentsac is my everyday wine. Yes Bordeaux wines are the best!

Paid $75. Mellow with a bitter aftertaste. Wife liked it, I was so-so. Was expecting more. But I do know that drinking Rothschild's wine before their time is never that enjoyable. The very nice surprise always comes later. By then however; your dealing with the last bottle of the case.

I liked this wine. I loved the 2016. But if you don't have the 2016, then the 2015 will do. Note the family did not share my enthusiasm because it was too young and high alcohol. Too young and too alcohol what's not to like???
I will try to find more. Second day tasting was great.

Paid maybe in the $160. Wow, I loved it. But I love my wines young. The bottle was empty before the steak was finished. My Son and Wife liked it but for the first time asked why I drink them so young when they would be so much better later in life. Why is a good question. Recommended. First time for Peby.

Paid $85. Well, the last bottle we had, I rated as a 96, this one will remain unrated. I liked it but the family didn't and did not believe that they had asked for more. But I did notice that this bottle had notes of aging, maybe bad handling in the past?

Paid $89.99. I normally am not partial to D'Issan. I drink wines much too young, and drinking D'Issan young is not at its best. However, with 2016s, I obtain a bottle to check if the excellence of 2016 was across all vineyards. It is, the D'Issan was excellent for me. Now, my son and wife felt it was too soft on the back end. I have gotten them to love the Medocs, so it is a lot of fun to see the effect of an excellent Margaux on them. Recommended.

Paid $39.99. A steal. Jermann makes some very excellent white wines. Have visited Jermann several times that I have been in Italy. Their Dreams and Tunina are the best, and I buy them whenever I come across them. This Tunina has a slight saline and slight bitter taste that goes so well with seafood. Full body with a complex fruit taste, due to the many different grapes (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, and Malvasia). Makes me want to be in Italy.

Paid $64. I bought one bottle because Robert Parker's Firm rated it at 98. As you can tell I disagree. My bottle had tiny bubbles form on the glass, that's acceptable with Italian whites, but Sonoma char? And the taste, was just ok.
Good to have, when you don't want to taste anything special. Pahlmeyer and Tor make better chardonnay wines to me. I favor the rich and buttery Chardonnay. If that is what you like this is not the wine for you.

Paid over $200. An excellent wine, this bottle was slightly past its prime. All the good stuff was there. Wife was glad I only bought one bottle, however. The problem with older wines is that you really do not know how they were treated. Based on the few older bottles I have been having, I feel that Bordeaux has been making wine to be drunk earlier. I remember drinking 2005 Bordeaux when they came out and finding them to be great. This is not to degrade the Le Gay, I liked it alot. But, I think I will stay with the 2016/17 bottles. Bought my first 2017 bottles Clinet and Alter Ego a few days ago.

Paid $75. The grape extraction is the best I have seen in Bordeaux. It is a massive taste No real bitterness. It deserves a 97 however, there is no real taste of the land afterwards, which would lead to a much higher score. If other vineyards were able to do what Chevalier is able to do, then we would have scores above 100. Impressive.

Paid $145 at the Fishery in San Diego, An excellent wine. The lemony aspects were subdued and perfect for fish. I did a mental comparison with the Mayacamas that I have been very negative on. If the back end of Prudhon had Mayacamas's fruit, or Mayacamas had the front taste of Prudhon, then these would be very great wines. Mayacamas needs to up their game, they have the fruit, just don't seem to know how to get the right balance on the lemon.

Not my type of Chardonnay. But it has gotten thicker and with certain foods such as roasted apples (as in a roasted chicken dish) it becomes a very nice wine.
I do admit that below the lemony hit which does not impress me, the fruit is excellent. What a waste. I have increased my rating, however.
