Mission log 2022, drinking wine from the year I graduated high school. Loads of tannins and strung tight for a 23 year old zin. Heidi Barrett killing it like always for the long term. Most zone I’ve had at the 20 year mark start to turn into a port like style. Not this zin, can’t wait to compare to the 2000 and 2001 in the vertical I have.

Hot garbage, such a waste of RRV grapes. I should of known better when I pick up this bottle based on the name and label. If a wine maker over compensates with marketing, your wine is going to be sh*t.

For an average retail of $50 I don’t believe this is a great or even good wine, mediocre at best. If you cut through the BS of $20 worth of wine in a $100 bottle, it still taste like $20 worth of wine !!!

Classic Rutherford Cab. Loads of fruit with a solid structure that gives way for a singular balance in its current state. Not a lot of depth, very linear and I find this par for the course with Rutherford wines.

1 of 6 from OWC, nose of floral hints, nice tannins and nose does not have a lot of age. Taste of standard valley floor Napa. Fills the mouth earthy notes and solid tannins on the back of the palate. Enjoy for the next 5-10 years

Good stuff, still intact. If I had more I would say it could go for another 5-10 years. At the end of the day this is a solid Oakville wine.

PNP from a Magnum signed by Dennis Cakebread. Still a solid pour with classic Napa punch !!! Still lots of fruit, at first taste it did not taste of any age. First taste seemed thin, but over the past two hours has evolved in full form.

I don’t normally score Pinots this high, but for the price point and the longevity of this wine I was impressed. 10 yrs old and it is solid as a new wine with some extra character. Beautiful fruit forward on the nose followed with an incredible first taste. The tannins are strong with this one as it is a 14.6% wine. Lovely cherries and currants. Drink now and maybe over the next 5 yrs !!!

PNP... this is absolutely stellar right from the start. Another classic Napa Cab that has proven itself over time. The nose is barely aged with slight hint of smoke. Opened for 2 hrs now and it is like pure candy!!! Lush and bold with well balanced tannins. Finally this wine has that rich Rutherford dust and this wine could easily go another 5 years. Cheers !!!

94’ Arrowood Réserve Spéciale

Nose of Bordeaux, lots of fruit forward. Perfect cork that easily came out with a standard cork screw. BlackBerry and bramble berry flavors.
Still has tight tannins. Nice balance of Oak.
Lovely color for 25 years old that barely looks or smells it’s age. Slight smoke and a little spice. PNP, did not decant and it was stellar. 93/100.

‘94 La Jota Petite Sirah

PNP, beautiful cork again was able to use a standard cork screw. Color was not as dark as expected for a 25 year old Petite Sirah. At first taste was tight with slight fruit, not a very long finish but still followed with a large amount of acidity. Nose of solid tannins and aromas of old vine, that gives a brief essence of earth on the palate. Towards the end of the bottle, lush fruits on the nose came forward and became smooth from the tight tannins. This is a gem locked in a bottle, it truly showed its potential. 89/100.

Perfect cork, cigar box. Only decanted for 30 minutes. Nose has nice tannins and has aged well, still very bright in aroma. At first taste is acid and fruit forward with it developing on the back of the palate. The fruit is rich, solid acid that is balanced and very smooth. Drinks very well, classic 90’s Napa @ heart !!!!

This is one of the best, consistent and fair priced Chard’s in Sonoma, Ca. Stone fruits, minerals and a touch of oak. Great daily drinker for a Second wine of Amici, if not better then the main label.

Drank this over two days, fairly enjoyed it now. Nice tight tannins that will develop over 3-5 years. Solid base wine for the price that has those distinct Napa flavors in the back of you’re palate. Cheers !!!

I had much higher expectations for this wine. Been recently to the BV winery and did the Latour tasting and had the pleasure of trying many of the latour’s along with a bunch of the Maestro collection wines. But for the life of me I do not remember any of the wines ever being near or over 15%. Now I do enjoy many high test Napa vinos, but for this one it is just to much. The heat from the alcohol blinds the classic Rutherford dust. Plus the one bottle I acquired had a ton of sediment and for a 2013 just seems to be a bit much.

I found 2 of these during my hunt for wine and bourbon as I travel, thought I’d give it try.

To begin as I pour in the glass the wine has a deep yellow hue. Aromatics are very light, but pleasant. First taste seems muted, not a lot of fruit but hits you in the back of the palate.

Overall taste of Light minerals, Hints of apples/pears with a Slight oak/buttery finish on that back palate. I’m the end this is what I would expect from a aged Classic/standard Sonoma Chardonnay.

To begin, the cost to quality is extremely off. This wine drinks like a $20 bottle of wine. Nothing that jumps out to the cost of this wine. Too much oak like it was injected with aged French oak, very unnatural. Aromatics do not bring anything to the table either. Will not purchase again and plan on send Faust a letter of disappointment, good day !!!

Drinking really well compared to the 2008. Nice leather notes and very smooth. Decanted for an hour or so.

Not sure what I was going to expect with this wine, but wow!!! Super solid Cab with lots of Fruit and very smooth tannins. Nice dark fruits like cherries. This is a great example of Napa valley. It's solid enough to go another 5-10 years, which I have one more bottle and plan on holding!!!

Beautiful nose of a tradition Zin. After 20 years I was not sure what this wine could do. Nice tannins and massive amounts of fruit. Jammy is not the word to describe the amount of fruit this wine which is held in this vessel. As my 3 year old describes music for his favorite Jams, this is Rocket Guitar Jam!!!

The wife considers it very port like, but overall nice for a '97.

Day 2-

Would not have believed this wine could handled a 2nd day. Very stable and all I can say is WOW!!! Better then I thought and I want to semi recant some of my previous notes. First off cheap wine can't handle a second day of drinking. Not as over priced as I would thought, but still $50 wine all day.

Opened my Magnum(1.5L) after drinking Silver Oak all day(house drink at Preakness). Loads of fruit forward, with the smell of mixed berries and heavy alcohol. Solid taste of fruit and alcohol but quite Jammy. Subtle hints of tobacco. Overall somewhat of a quality wine but over priced due to the Orin Swift name. At the most $40 wine all day!!!

The wine starts with beautiful floral hints on the nose followed by an enchanting taste. This reminds me of a mountain fruit wine or in style of what I enjoy about mountain fruit. It has that big, bold pop right out of the bottle but starts to build some complexity over the next 60 minutes. I would like to know where they source their grapes for this wine?

Such a great and simple example of a Chardonnay. Starts with a light floral and citrus taste, small amount of grapefruit which then develops to a smooth buttery oak. Not overall oaky like most Napa chardonnay's, this was very enjoyable to drink. Very impressed with Dennis Johns wine making ability not just in his Cabs, but with this Chardonnay too. Enjoyed with grilled Apricot Cajun Salmon and mixed green salad.

I found this wine to be interested as it was a Cab Sav, Cab Franc and Merlot blend. At first it had the nose of dark/black licorice and green bell peppers. Just a lot of spice from the nose. After it opened for 30 minutes or so the Merlot finally started to come through, it was not bad or good, but worth trying a random Howell Mountain wine for $25.

This wine just does not have the potential of being a bold California Cab. Very thin with the undertones of fruit. This makes me wonder if this is indicative of the dry creek region, but rest assure I won't be drinking another one.

Love the brand of White Cottage in every way. Truly a perfect example of Howell Mountain. Bright to start off with prospering cherry's that will continue to excel for years to come. It is hard to beat this price point of a wine for the region.

Attempt to use Corivan machine which failed and pushed cork through into the bottle. Then poured entire bottle into decanter which then I allowed to air for 1:30-1:45 hours before consumption. This wine at first has instant notes of minerals and graphite, very heavy tannins with a light finish of mixed fruit. It enhanced with my meal.

Not what I was expecting for the price. It comes off kind of earthy and viney. Some fruit but not enjoyable. I just hope this is not indicative of their estate wine.
