8/27/21, 8:08 AM - village or grand cru?
12/8/21, 2:06 PM - srh, I know the listed wine is grand cru. My question is whether the tasting note is for the same wine, since he referred to the wine as a village wine. Unless you were there with Joeswine1 to witness the wine he drank.
11/11/21, 1:09 PM - "I could drink this every day."I think that's what heaven is for.
9/26/21, 5:16 PM - sounds like you liked it?
7/2/21, 10:12 AM - Hah I have a single half bottle that i bought expressly for the purpose of trying young... but maybe I'll redefine my definition of young as 5-7 years from now!
12/19/20, 10:14 PM - I would take these at half price...
8/1/20, 12:38 PM - second coravin access wasn't quite as good to me, maybe 90-91. A little less structure, maybe felt flabbier. Could be for a number of reasons, so I ended up going a little lower on the wine.
4/21/20, 8:54 PM - Cool comparison - have both but am going to hold them for a little while longer
4/8/20, 11:58 AM - Agree that it's light on structure
3/8/20, 6:07 PM - Did you have a favorite Cru out of all of Michel's 2017s?
3/8/20, 7:29 PM - thanks!
11/24/19, 2:39 PM - How could a 10 year barolo that is primarily stinky cheese and poop not be a bad bottle?
10/9/19, 3:55 PM - how much CFE have you drank before?
9/12/19, 4:27 AM - Having tasted this a few years ago, I'd take a bet that this would be still as good, if not better past 2022
9/12/19, 9:04 AM - I think the wine has sufficient acid to age - it's not like acid and ageability follow a direct linear relationship, where the more acid you have, the longer the wine will necessarily age. 2010s have boatloads of acid, but I'm not sure they'll be considered the most ageworthy of all recent German riesling vintages. To be fair, how much acid we want in our wines is always going to be highly subjective. I like classically high acid wines in general (i.e., chablis, riesling, muscadet), but within that spectrum, I prefer the middle of the road, rather than higher acid. Has there ever been a Prum auslese than didn't live past 10 years?
8/22/19, 9:48 PM - I love this stuff - recently bought the last 6 that I could find
5/19/19, 4:39 PM - I have not found 2015s left bankers to be particularly light bodied, at least from tasting d'Issan and Leoville-Barton
5/18/19, 11:54 PM - You've been drinking the wrong Italians!
5/14/19, 10:12 PM - I think the lower level Kellers still need a little time in bottle to settle down and get the balance right. 2015 Limestone Kabinett and Von der Fels both were a little angular early on release but are totally in the zone. Might also be a '15 acid thing though
3/8/19, 10:54 PM - Those are some damn fine potatoes you've been having
1/29/19, 9:24 AM - Thanks for the notes - did you have a sense of which of the 2014 Uhlen wines were your favorite?
1/29/19, 10:03 AM - Thanks, no surprise, I suppose!
1/25/19, 1:31 PM - Right bank?
1/18/19, 6:51 PM - Strange that it showed sweet, as it's definitely a dry wine
1/2/19, 10:40 PM - There is plenty to love in both vintages, imo.
12/9/18, 5:16 PM - took one for the team
12/10/18, 8:17 PM - Well hell, time to open up some more!
12/5/18, 9:51 AM - I think this already began shutting down last year from my experience. When I bought Beaujolais, I had no idea this stuff would shut down. Now I'm a little annoyed that I've got to wait. I've got enough stuff for aging, need more for drinking.
11/11/18, 8:46 PM - any idea of the disgorgement date or base vintage?
10/23/18, 5:27 PM - I don't know Bob nor Caitlin, but that's some damn fine wedding wine!
10/15/18, 9:17 AM - nice notes. Seems like it lends credence to the Prums' belief that 2005 is maybe their greatest vintage in the last few decades
8/22/18, 6:28 PM - 2 hours in and the wine has filled out considerably. Tannins are more present but still only starting to kick in. I don't think I've made this clear yet, but this is a great wine, though it feels like a waste to drink it now (which is why I'm drinking out of a half bottle)
8/15/18, 9:34 AM - Also the produttori barbarescos have been going up in price the last two vintages. By the time 2016 comes out, it'll be hard to find it under 30, even with a coupon
8/9/18, 1:00 PM - Just curious - Is R&L Legras very popular in the Scandinavian countries? I see so many notes on this wine from those countries, why is that?
8/10/18, 7:30 AM - Thanks for the info!
5/25/18, 10:38 AM - I appreciate your sacrifice
4/13/18, 3:59 PM - Yep, and prum+gka+great vintage = what you read here.I think I paid 60 bucks for it last year
4/13/18, 10:47 AM - Yeah, it's part of the reason i didn't officially score it, it seemed unfair when the bottle seemed questionable. Appreciate your kind words on the cellar. It's young, but I'm hopeful that it'll be great for years to come.
4/3/18, 11:05 AM - Totally agree that it's uninspired. I'd score it around the same as well. My brother independently came to the same conclusion from a separate bottle.
4/3/18, 8:11 AM - $40 dollars is 904 pricing. I think I paid $25 for mine. Also, though I haven't opened my 2008, I think it wasn't a very good vintage (though I do like the 2007 Ardanza). All that being said, I am also someone who really enjoys most LRA offerings, oak and all.
4/3/18, 8:46 AM - The 2005 Ardanza is a much denser, deeper wines (probably 2001, 2004 too). More oak too though. But if you're oakay with LRA's oakiness, then at the very least it'll give you a different level of Ardanza.
3/9/18, 10:10 PM - At 13.5% alcohol, this should be a dry wine, or at the very least, nothing even close to even a kabinett level of residual sugar.
3/22/18, 1:52 PM - I think you may be conflating the ripeness and richness of the wine with sugar. There's no conceivable way that the sweetness of this wine at <9 g/L is remotely comparable to a typical pradikat Spatlese. Maybe a feinherb style.
3/22/18, 5:02 PM - The must weight is before fermentation, so it won't necessarily reflect the RS in the bottle. A typical pradikat spatlese would have roughly 50 g/L of residual sugar, which is far greater than <9 g/L.
3/23/18, 10:04 AM - You're telling me that the Singerriedel was on the sweet side to you because it tasted like a spatlese trocken? Which spatlese trockens have tasted rather sweet to you? I just take issue with this because I think comparing a Smaragd's sweetness to a German spatlese is just wrong unless you clarify that it's a spatlese trocken that you mean, so people realize it's not actually a sweet wine. Unless it's actually a sweet wine, in which case I will be fairly unhappy when I open my bottle.
3/23/18, 9:49 AM - Though maybe the oak profile is more than usual in this case, traditional Rioja will have a very strong American oak influence. That's just Rioja.
3/14/18, 11:42 PM - worth the risk to wait?
3/12/18, 1:58 PM - Try the St. Joseph from the same vintage.
3/10/18, 8:45 AM - To be fair it's a Bordeaux that you're drinking a year after release
2/9/18, 7:13 PM - I thought the 2007 904 wasn't much better than the 2007 Ardanza
3/5/18, 5:26 PM - In my limited experience, the differences between the 904 and Ardanza were much more pronounced in other vintages. For example, 2005. In 2007, I thought there was a much smaller difference.
2/23/18, 10:42 AM - That's weird. My bottles are transparent, you can just see the wine's clarity even through the bottle
2/22/18, 11:25 PM - You're right on with your note, I get the same dried strawberries, herbs, dustiness, and rose petals (rose smell not unlike young nebbiolo). This is gorgeous. Weirdly, I also get a little bit of a freshly cleaned bathroom smell.
1/15/18, 9:42 PM - 2015s have been released?
12/25/17, 10:13 PM - from Flatiron?
12/11/17, 7:42 PM - I don't have the depth of experience with this wine as many other tasters. Certainly I can understand if people don't like the 2015 if it feels more like an outlier from its usual character. But without those experiences, I gotta say, it's a hell of a delicious wine. I bought a case of this blind just off the strength of other decent vintages, and I am not someone who buys much wine in such volume. But the price...
11/6/17, 10:39 PM - I opened one this weekend and have been following it for the last couple days. I'd have to agree with your assessment. A shame because a lot of people loved this wine.
9/28/17, 3:57 PM - You sure that wasnt the langhe nebbiolo?
9/28/17, 8:27 PM - that's an incredible price. I'd buy out the entire store.
8/22/17, 9:11 AM - @Seth, I couldn't stand the base 15 Roilette bottling, but honestly, I very much enjoyed the 2015 Tardive. It is more muscular, but still has the complexity and floral aromatics that I want. I found it very well balanced. I think it's worth a try. I'm with you on Dutraive. When I tried it on release, I thought The 2015 Grand Cour Fleurie VV bottling was straight up roasted with coffee/mocha/toasted notes on the palate (it seems my bottles/notes are under the "wrong" CT bottle label). More recent notes are more generous, so hopefully they'll show better now...
3/21/17, 3:35 PM - Drank a glass and a half over the course of several hours, couldn't drink more than that. Aromas opened up now but that oak isn't going anywhere
3/20/17, 9:59 AM - Was this drank on its own compared to your note from ugc? Glad to hear it's showing so well this young!
