A nicely made Bordeaux without paying a high price. Wanted a quick sample of 2018 and chose this one. It disappointed at all. Yes it’s youthful at this stage but wanted to set some type of benchmark. This Pessac-Léognan is a blend made mostly with Merlot.

Decanted for about an hour. On the nose, red fruit, not too big or ripe but balanced. Lovely perfume, floral notes and some terroir underneath the soft red fruit which tells you it’s Bordeaux and not a Napa. For me, the nose is the best part right now. On the palette, same red fruits and floral notes with some acidity and fine tannins. Balanced oak integration and good structure as well. Its nice now and will no doubt it improve in another 5-10 years. Then drink well for another decade. Enjoy!

Opens with a beautiful multilayered nose of earth, mushrooms, perfumed flowers and pedals. Love the nose. Brick red in colour. On the palette, it’s still tight with tannins but very enjoyable. Medium red fruits of raspberries and cherries. Mid palette is a bit hollow but has a nice finish. Still needs much more time (5+ years). Medium finish. After 1-2 hours in the decanter, edges and tannins smoothed out with a soft supple finish. Remember visiting Troplong Mondot which was the reason for buying these bottles. Regardless very enjoyable from this favourite chateau. 94 today with lots of potential and confidence for growth to 95-96 in years to come. Enjoy!

Updated: On day 2 like most, the nose still had the nice red fruit and perfumed flowers, reminiscent of Saint Emilion. On the palette, the merlot had smoothed out nicely providing a much more plush, softer feel. Excellent and very solid. Can’t wait for the future for this claret – its got a good one.

Just about 3 years since the last bottle. Decided to pop another one. Decanted for 15 minutes.

Today we get the bright rich generous ruby red colour. On the nose, it’s more of the rich jammy red fruits, blueberries and other ripeness with oak nicely integrated. Hedonistic yet well balanced and mature. On the palette it’s what you would expect from the nose. More of the same and everything is in place and well integrated. With a long finish to boot. I always love Ben Glaetzer’s style and wine making prowess. If there’s one tiny blemish it’s the lack of complexity. But it’s expected from all new world regions. Regardless wonderfully made and pairs well on its own or with some of your favourite meals. Will easily last another decade. Enjoy to those who have a bottle to crack open.

3 years since last tasting this. Bottle is perfectly cellared and sound. With no breakage in cork nor any streaks on the side of the cork.

A beautiful little 21 year old right bank claret. On the nose, red meat juices, red berries with the oak well integrated with lots of terroir. Colour is an aged brownish brick red. The palette is delicate and well balanced. Lovely bordeaux. Greatly enjoying this one. I remember last time I enjoyed it but believe it’s improved 3 years later. In a perfect drinking window that still has time left. Great QPR. Paired tonight with Prime Rib and roasted veggies (Herbs de Provence).

It’s too bad others didn’t enjoy this as much as I did. Thankful to have a few more bottles. Nicely made and aging well.

Nose of cotton candy, sweet ripe red fruit. The oak is now well integrated with some slight tannins. Everything is well balanced. Simple and primary but tasty. Pairs nicely with any pizza, steaks or pastas. Nothing spectacular but a solid wine.

It’s been almost 6 years since my last bottle of this one. The nose opened up with earth, red medium fruits, raspberries and some burnt rubber. Colour is thin brick red. On the palette it’s nicely balanced with lots of finesse. Might feel thin but I really enjoyed it. I’m used to the bolder rich Bordeaux wines so this is such a nice change with its 13% alcohol. Just a delight but probably not for everyone. Some might feel it’s too thin. I see it more of finesse with nice subtle complexities. Still a tad tannic as I didn’t decant. No hurry in popping these as I think there’s many more years of life left. Still feels vibrant with energy. Looking forward to my last 2 down the road.

Vibrant red ruby fruits on the nose. A medley of sweet red fruits. Cotton candy with oak nicely integrated. On the palette it’s all refined with the same layers of red rich fruits. Not overextracted or over the top. Nice long finish. I had the 2006 Anaperenna awhile back but I like this bottle better. Still a bit tannic but has a lot of years left. Only downside was the cork crumbled quite easily. Enjoy!

What a beautiful bottle from the outstanding 2005 vintage. On the nose, classic margaux of fields of flowers, red fruit, milk chocolate with oak nicely integrated. On the palette, it’s beautifully balanced with the tannins well integrated and little notice of alcohol. Perfect at 13.5%. Medium to full body of red fruit and blueberries. Not overripe or over the top but mellow and gentle. Makes you want to keep drinking. The finish is medium and lasts about 30 seconds. Have said this in previous notes. This is absolutely why I love Bordeaux Wine. Aged and delicious. Enjoyed with our Christmas Turkey Dinner.

It’s been 2 years since my last bottle. Muted at first but opened up after about 30min of decanting. Nose of medium red fruits, milk chocolate and some terroir. On the palette, it’s still somewhat tannic and shut down but with notes of red berries, chocolate and integrated oak. The foundation is there for a long life. I’d keep these sleeping for at least another 3-4 years and see where it’s at then.

Ultimately, I feel confident about this one’s potential from the superb 2016 tuscan chianti vintage. Still happy to have a case. And it paired perfectly with Neapolitan style pizza tonight. As others have mentioned great QPR. I’ve tried the 2017 and it wasn’t as good. 2016 has more of everything including potential. Tastes like a $50 bottle.

Update: If you are going to open up this bottle, give it between 1-1.5 hours in the decanter. After finishing this tasting note (1.5 hours later), it has opened up nicely and mellowed out. An actual great bottle. 90pts before, 91pts now.

Nose of a bouquet of juicy red ripe fruits. Orange peel, meat juices. Definitely a blend with merlot characteristics. Oak is nicely integrated. On the palette, the same flavours but still slightly tannic. Finish doesn’t last too long. Love the nose, palette is alright. Not superb but not bad at all. Still easily has a few years left. Will let it decant for an hour or so to see if the palette integrates better.

UPDATED: After a 2.5 hour decant, wine mellowed out and became much more integrated and improved. Still not outstanding but a solid red.

Excited to try this one! Unmistakablely Saint Emilion and right bank. Didn’t decant but absolutely love the nose. Peppery, perfume with delicate red floral pedals. The palette matches the nose with lovely red fruits, terroir and a slightly grippy finish. Everything is already well integrated and this has many years ahead of pleasure. Will continue to improve but already great. A classic and well balanced claret from a top producer.

I was worried this might be well past it’s prime but not at all. Will easily last another 5+ years and more if cellared properly. The nose is of medley of ripe sweet juicy red fruits. On the palette it was the same as the nose. An aged delicious well made napa can sav. Still slightly tannic. Didn’t decant and will try again tomorrow. Only downside was a broken cork but otherwise pairs perfectly with grilled rib eyes, baby back ribs, bbq chicken and smokies. No social distancing between grilled meats and Jospeh Phelps.

Paired well with steamed sable fish and pan fried oysters. Has been cellaring since purchase so anxious to try. On the nose lots of honey, brown sugar, some apricots, and citrus fruits. On the palette, apricots, grapefruits and melon. Medium finish. Little to no acidity left which makes me wonder it’s future evolution. Regardless, a good solid effort.

I’ve had the Amon Ra, Bishop and Wallace from past vintages. First time trying this Shiraz-Cab Sav blend. On the nose, loads of strawberries and raspberries. Very fragrant. On the palette, it was mellow with the oak integrated. Slight tannins. With the alcohol now on the backend. Ripe red and dark fruit. Having such high expectations, I was somewhat disappointed with this one while not sure what else I was expecting. It was a really good wine but nothing outstanding. 91-92.

A beautiful well made wine. On the nose, there’s rich dark crushed berries. Coffee, caramel, soy sauce and loads of dark fruit. On the palette, it’s well balanced like many highend Bordeaux wines. Unmistakably Graves with that interesting minerality and rocks component. Mature with still some grippy tannins but overall it’s ready and will continue to easily age nicely over the next decade and beyond. Underrated vintage. Really enjoying this one from the Pessac Leognan region.

One of my first Bordeaux wines purchased, so glad it has aged well without any issues. Rated 93 pts by RP and have to completely agree.

This was my first sample of the outstanding 2010 vintage. Dark rudy red fruits. Nose of new oak, bell peppers and spices. On the palette, an open, well balanced and extremely well made bordeaux. If this is any indication of what’s to come in 2010, I’m excited as there’s so much potential from producers like this cru bourgeois and the big boys which are in the wings.

Balanced, finesse, superb. Once again the reason why I believe Bordeaux is the world’s leader in winemaking.

A solid yet simple Cali Cab Sav. Cork broke in half as it’s been on its side for over 10 years. In a great place at age 14 years with slightly grippy tannins. Can likely age a few more years easily. But in a perfect spot for drinking. Nothing spectacular with little complexity but will pair well with anything.

Had this with Thanksgiving Dinner. Nice, clean, rustic and simple Chianti. Obviously still young and tannic. Needs another 2 years. 2016 is definitely a few levels better in terms of complexity and full throttle quality. Had I never tried the 2016 vintage, I would not criticize the 2017. Regardless still a nice well made wine.

Friday night wine watching El Camino. Final bottle. Decanted for 30min. On the nose, lots of tobacco, dried cherries and earth. This wine is unmistakable Right Bank Pomerol. Much more complex and mellow from my last bottle 6 years ago. It has evolved nicely. On the palette, still has some tannins to resolve but well balanced with a medium bodied finish. It’s likely near peak and can easily last many more years. So no need to pop if you have these around. Overall I quite like this underrated Pomerol. Yet another well made Bordeaux from Christian Moueix.

Day 2. Very interesting Pomerol. I’m now getting a perfume/floral note at the end along with the same tobacco and dried cherries on the palette.

Excited to try this one. From a 375ml bottle. Popped and poured. On the nose, beautiful dark red fruits, coffee, lots of complexity and terroir. Very vibrant and stunning. On the palette was amazed by the absolutely beautiful elegant and balanced structure. So much going on. Tannins have soften nicely. Still feels young with so many years ahead but had to see where this was at as it’s one of those things where eventually you have to open and give it a shot. Also love the aftertaste. There’s a floral note. Like daisies which I’d never imagine from Pauillac but more from Margaux. Haven’t had many but this 2005 Pontet Canet is truly a classic and quality made wine. Nothing over the top but simply ‘balanced’.

Gorgeous wine! Nose of buttered popcorn, honey, oak, tangerine. Finely tuned and mature. Dark amber in colour. On the palette, a balance of buttery elegance, orange peel, honey and a mild oaky delight. This is sophisticated and I love it. The most I’ve ever spent on a bottle of Napa Chardonnay but worth the wait and price. One and only bottle. The way it was meant to be.

The exact reason why I absolutely adore top notch French producing wines. In this case the Perrin Brothers. It’s 12 years old and mature yet has so much complexity with finesse and balance. And still has many years to go.

On the nose, there’s dried herbs, cranberries, tobacco, tea leaves and all the goodness from southern rhone. On the palette, well integrated dried fruit, alcohol has subsized, tannins are still slightly grippy with a hint of a bitter finish as other tasters have identified.

Still an underrated wine vs Big Brother Beaucastel. Last bottle 5 years ago was much more rich and fruit vibrant. This one is profound. Loving it! Reason you buy and age french. Rewarded with time like no other region in the world. Still much more time. Will open next bottle in 3-5. 91-92.

A great wine from the outstanding 2005 vintage. Had this 5 years ago and decided to open my final bottle tonight.

This is so much better than 5 years ago. There’s so much more to offer this time around and again the reason we patiently wait to be rewarded.

On the nose undoubtedly french, bordeaux and margaux with rose pedals, floral scents, all sorts of ripe dark cherries and other dark fruits. Picking up some meat juices as well.

On the palette, ripe cherries, blueberries and best of all that bordeaux terroir with the oak nicely integrated. Love all the components working together. The finish is a bit short but enjoying the rest. All components feel fully intergrated. Tannins are mellow. I think this is at its peak level for optimum enjoyment.

My final bottle of a great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Bought at Luna Vineyards. Fully mature and ripe. On the nose, lots of red ripe juicy fruits. Well made and at a peak drinking period. Great 3 years ago and still solid today.

Review on 2 items.
1. Sampling a right bank 2015.
2. Testing out my new Gabriel Glas StandArt Glasses

Decanted for 60 min. One the nose, lots of ripe, juicy red fruit, orange peel, coffee and chocolate. On the palette, obviously a very young wine with grippy tannins, acidity but nicely balanced. Well made. Nothing spectacular but has all the potential. Best to wait at least another 3-5 years. 90 points today but will be much better with more time.

As for the GG? Poured it into a Burgundy shaped bowl and another universal bowl. Must say I quite like the GG feel in my hands. The glass is thin and hits the lips so well. Its the right weight and feels balanced. Love the aesthetics. My new everyday stemware.

It’s been over 5 years since trying this. Popped and poured with a rib eye grilling steak. Decanted for 30min. The cork was black.

The nose is wonderfully integrated. Blueberries, cherries, tar, oak and some secondary notes. You can tell this wine is about quality and balance.

On the palette, same as the nose with still some grippy tannins. Everything is in a good place and most of all balanced!! Still many years of life ahead as this is built and structured with a solid foundation. A pleasure to open again.

Best final way to describe, its Thanos with his infinity gauntlet with the final stone to come :)

It’s been almost 2 years since my last bottle of the 2000 Château Langlais. Having read other’s experiences and reviews I decided to open another bottle.

On this evening I didn’t decant. The cork was structurally sound. Still some elasticity. There was a streak of wine that stopped about halfway down the cork.

On the nose: pencil, orange peel, earth, tobacco and red meat.

On the palette: a fully mature right bank bordeaux wine. Still slight grippy tannins. Orange peel, graphite, earth. Fruit is now secondary but such a fantastic and interesting wine. Excellent QPR and so happy to have a few more bottles of this little chateau. Thoroughly enjoying this wine and still sipping as I’m writing. I’m confident this can still last another few more years. 90 pts.

Tasted in Paris. Palette of pencil, bell peppers. Nose of red berries, pencil, bell peppers. Tannins are still present but it’s at a drinking stage already. Tasted this one alongside the 2013 Pauillac de Latour. Both were young and had similar nose. But the Margaux was in a better place. Softer on the palette and further ahead in maturity. Again skillset and quality was there. Great way to sample Chateau Margaux without spending the big bucks on big brother. 89-91

Tasted in Paris. Nose of sweet ripe red fruit and some earth. On the palette: very easy to drink as the tannins are soft with ripe sweet fruit. As the days moved in there was a slight barnyard, earthy quality to the wine. In a very good way. Not offensive but adding more complexity. Would pair nicely with anything gamey. Personally made for the French rustic cuisine.

Bought this almost a decade ago and after reading other tasting notes, I decided to finally open it up.

Didn’t decant. On the nose, rich bold red fruits, oak, toffee, all nicely integrated. On the palette, here’s where it seemed a bit disjointed. Still some slight tannins with some heat but echos the nose with coffee and finishes a little bitter. Typical Napa. Hopefully this wasn’t over the hill. So drink up.

Ok after decanting 30min it softened and opened up. Nice finish and bitter finish is now gone.

It's almost been 2 years since my last bottle. Popped and decanted for under 15 min. Poured into my glass and found overall this 2012 Wallace has nicely integrated and in a perfect place. Tannins are all resolved. What's left is a balanced tasty shiraz. Usual consistent notes of ripe juicy fruit, tar, blueberries, chocolate, peppers, vanilla and oak. We paired it with a greek style meat pizza plus baked spaghetti.

Been following Wallace for over a decade and this version is up there with the other great vintages. 2004 is still my favourite. Regardless, really enjoying the 2012 vintage from Barossa.

Would drink this one within the year to next year knowing how the Wallace peaks at around 4-5 years and declines after that. Enjoy now!

First bottle from this highly touted vintage. The nose is beautiful for this fully mature little red. Notes of flowers, raspberries, earth, spices and nice layers of freshness. Really impressed with the nose. On the palette, it's medium body with slightly grippy tannins with flowers, oak and more red fruit. The finish is fairly short but that's a good thing. Opened this screwcapped bottle and right away made a 'pop' sound with gas flowing quickly dissipating. Nose was fine, poured and right away noticed it was fizzy. Could also see white residue along the edge of the decanter. As if someone added club soda to the mix. Wonder if a second fermentation had occurred inside the bottle. Anyways, waited 30 min, the fizz subsided but knew it wasn't right. So returned and deemed it defective. First time I've encountered an issue like this.

Anyways second bottle of the night popped and this time, no issues. Decanted for 20 min and it was its usual self. Still tannic and young. Found it not as fresh and lively as my last bottle from a few months ago. Might be going through a shut down phase.

On Day 2, I tasted and this had really opened up with tar, blueberries, pepper, sweet red dark fruits. A Wallace I'm used to having.

Day 3 it was still solid with the same flavours and nose. Anyways interesting to see it evolve like this over 3 days. Will wait till year end or next year before opening the next bottle. Has a lot of time left.

Looking forward in trying this Premier Cru Burgundy 100% Pinot Noir. On the nose, it opens up with nice spicy, earth notes. Cranberries, oak, chocolate, meat juices.

On the palette, well balanced with good finesse. Light to medium body. I didn't decant at first so the finish was tart. Lots of flavour and overall a nice wine for the 2009 vintage. Still tannic with some acidity left. Love how the wine hits many points of your mouth. And refreshing to have a wine or finesse rather than full throttle power. A solid Burgundian wine. Look forward in following this over the next few years. Producer says to drink now through 2020.

It's been 6 months since the last bottle. Similar to the last bottle in terms of nose (which is always lovely). The palette on this is in a better place. Everything seems more integrated. Traditionally I've found the Wallace gets good after 3 years of the vintage date. By early 2016, it'll be even better. Overall another tasty bottle. Better than 2006, on par with 2004. 2012 is indeed a great vintage for the Aussies. You can taste it all over this one. Refined and balanced and not a fruit bomb at all. 91-92 for me.

What a great bottle of Shiraz! 10 years old with a brick red colour. Lots of sediment built up near the neck and shoulder. On the nose, tar, dark rich juicy fruits, cotton candy. On the palette, everything has nicely integrated. Just a pleasure to taste with a long finish. The tannins are soft and well integrated now. I don't get the usual McLaren Vale herbal notes but still a fine wine. Drink up now as I don't believe this will get any better. 92-93 pts.

Decanted for an hour. On the nose there is a lot of medium, red fruit notes. Nice ripe cherries, rhubarb, spices and freshness. On the palette, its the same - cherries, medium red fruit, strawberries. Some vegetal. Nice mid palette and medium finish. Tannins are still a little grippy which makes me think another 3-4 years before it hits its peak. Good acidity. Regardless a nice solid Saint Emilion wine. Compared side by side to 2010 Chateau Pey La Tour for fun. And you can immediately experience the difference in quality despite a 2008 vs 2010 vintage. My second wine from the 2008 vintage. I like what I've tasted thus far.
