Drank with family in St. Lucia. Came together very quickly and showed the freshness and balance that I remember with previous bottles. Dark fruits, but not too ripe from this hot vintage. The top bordeaux properties have made fantastic wines in 2003.

Delicious. Dark fruits on the nose and palate, extending into intense tertiary flavours of licorice and charcoal. 45+ second finish. Lovely balance.

Delicious notes of cassis, licorice, and spice box. This wine is very much alive with tons of red fruits on the palate. Impeccable balance with a 60+ second finish.

Opened quite quickly. Drank after ~30 min and enjoyed over the next 1 1/2 hours. Blackberries, cherrries, charcoal, and unsmoked tobacco on the nose. Cassis and cherries on the finish. 60 second finish.

Classic Paulliac. After a few years of being closed, this is awake again. Spice box and cedar on the nose, with plenty of blueberry and cassis on the palate. Good acidity to hold this up for several more years. Pleasant 45 second finish.

Tannins are finally tamed. Still has good fruit and is now developing substantial tertiary flavours. Would drink now.

This seems to be getting a little stronger. After a two hour decant, dark Napa fruit and spice box are on the nose. The fruit is upfront but not overpowering. I thought this was nicely balanced with an acidity that remains lively on the palate. Still mouth-coating with a 50-second finish. Anniversary wine that should be good for 5-10 more!

Dark red to the rim. Leather and charcoal, with a nice backbone of fruit. This is very powerful on the nose, coats the palate, and lingers for 50+ seconds. Has the acidity to last for several more years.

Decanted for three hours. Lighter colour, but a tremendous amount of sediment. Very open wine at this point, with sufficient fruit, but probably fading and on the downside. Plenty of acid, making this a lively wine still at 32 years old. 60-second finish. Was probably a 95+ wine a few years ago when the fruit was in better balance with the acid.

I was looking for a fruit-forward Napa cab to match with flank steak, and this hit the mark. Red and black currants, with a peppery finish. This is a concentrated wine, without being too heavy. A lingering 60-second finish.
White - Sparkling

Lovely mature champagne. Toasty brioche balanced by a solidly acidic backbone. I actually enjoyed this more than the 2000 Pontet-Canet that we also opened for New Year’s dinner.

Very disjointed upon opening, with little fruit and a lot of acid. Decanted for 2 hours, at which point the fruit emerged and the volatile acids started to settle down. It ended up being a nice if rustic wine. Plenty of cassis by three and a half hours, and a score that kept nudging higher until the bottle was finished. Good, but never approaching great.

Decanted two hours and drank with Christmas dinner prime rib and Yorkshire puddings. Deep purple with little bricking at the edges. Delicious peppery and youthful nose, but all mouth-coating cassis on the palate. This was a huge wine, but yet seemed balanced. I dare say it improved over the three hours that I drank it, and I bumped it a point from the 94 when I first sipped. The finish lasted almost a minute.

I enjoyed this wine, but it was lacking a little something. I thought the 2003 Pontet Canet was much better.

Very nice. A little less fruit forward than the other 2010 we drank (whitehall lane), but that wasn’t a bad thing as this was a balanced and complex wine.

Decanted at a restaurant. Oodles of dark fruits, followed by beef blood, damp tobacco leaf, and charcoal. Over one minute on the finish. A fantastic wine, maybe not quite up to the last time, but still worthy of a 95+ score.

Dark purple and quite open initially. Wonderful dark fruits emerged after 90 minutes of air. Tertiary notes are just starting to emerge, but this could be more complex with another five years in the bottle. Alas, this was my last one.

Still very youthful. Needed at least a 90 minute decant, but then exploded with flavours of blackberries, charcoal, and graphite. The tannins were still grippy at four hours. Concentrated, with a 50-second+ finish. Will probably leave my last bottle for 5+ years.

Deep purple and no a lot of sediment. Remained somewhat dumb even after two hours decanted. This wine didn’t start to open up until ~3 hours, suggesting additional cellar time is needed. I think this can be a much better wine in 2-3 years.

Deep red colour. Decanted 2 hrs ahead of dinner. The wine opened nicely with blueberries, bing cherries, and graphite. A delicious wine, but the finish was a bit clipped.

Drank from a magnum. Double decanted and let it breathe for two hours. Agree that it had a hollow mid-palate initially, but it rounded out with time. Was quite enjoyable and great QPR.

Would have probably given it a 90 after the first 60 minutes decanted, but the finish really started to round out after 2 hours. Purple in colour, loads of dark fruits and charcoal on the finish. Was a bit thin on the palate initially, but really started to hit its stride after a longer exposure to air. The prominent fruit suggests a longer life ahead of it.

Brought with me on a cruise. Decanted for an hour ahead of time, and this was a little reticent at the start. But went from a 92 to a 96 in the span of 30 minutes. Bursting with cassis, blueberries, and graphite. Still purple in colour, great balance, nice acidity, and a 45-second finish. Really nice!
