2016 Keplinger Hangman's Carneros Syrah

Blueberry, fennel, crushed stone, sweet anise, white pepper. Very nice wine.

2/20/21, 7:10 AM - Gave it about 60 minutes of air, and I do aggressively decant, so probably more equal to two hours of air. It is not as stunning as the '15 Hangman, but if you have a few, it is good to go and very enjoyable

Red
2016 Mending Wall Cabernet Sauvignon Tournahu Vineyard Napa Valley

Fig, pine cone, fennel, Chambord. Fantastic
  • YankeeRobio commented:

1/21/21, 1:56 PM - Decanted the '16 Mending Wall for about an hour. That's all it needed. It was fantastic

Red
2014 Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Single Block
10/9/2020 - YankeeRobio Likes this wine:

Blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, leather. Great grippy and intense tannins
  • YankeeRobio commented:

10/9/20, 6:20 PM - Unusual for a Napa '14, which I have found to be extremely approachable and settled. That said, though the tannin's were course, they were extremely enjoyable. This was one of the bolder expressions of a Napa '14, probably because the Mt Veeder heritage.

Red
2016 Outpost Immigrant True Vineyard Howell Mountain Red Bordeaux Blend

Great left bank effort. Stunning

8/22/20, 3:07 PM - About an hour. I am finding almost all Napa '16 Bordeaux varietals are drinking well young without much air time.

Red
2013 Bevan Cellars Syrah Moaveni Vineyard Bennett Valley

Greatest Syrah I've ever had, period
  • YankeeRobio commented:

6/10/19, 4:27 PM - Great catch, The Torrin Akasha is one that I have but have not experienced yet. From what I hear, it is fantastic. I'll write a note when I take it for a ride.

Red
2016 Ancillary Cellars Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Different. Olive juice, lemon rind, cranberry, pomegranate.
  • YankeeRobio commented:

11/12/18, 5:53 PM - I know, wasn't expecting it, but it was there (confirmed by others tasting it). The lemon zest was a good compliment to the cranberry and pomegranate, but it was weird.

  • YankeeRobio commented:

11/12/18, 6:35 PM - Fear not, most others have more "normal' notes, all I can do is taste what I taste. Note, I am a huge Mike Smith (winemaker) fan, I absolutely love, Myriad, Quivet, Carter and Becklyn. This was just different.

Red
2013 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Spectacular. Marionberry, cassis, leather.
  • YankeeRobio commented:

8/15/18, 4:31 PM - I've got to tell you, for some reason the 2013 Forman is more in the drinking window right now than the 2012 and the 2008. Usually takes about 10 years for the tannins to settle down and the flavors to explode with other Forman vintages. Last night that was not the case. Stunning wine.

Red
2015 Keplinger Mars Moon Mountain District Red Rhone Blend

Great GSM. Blueberry, anise, cassis. Rutherford dust mouthfeel. Decadent wine
  • YankeeRobio commented:

5/2/18, 7:35 AM - Decanted for 1 hour. I found both of Keplinger Granache based 2015's were already in the early part of the drink window and drinking wonderfully (Mars and Basilisk). Basilisk was a "knock your socks off" wine. I have a friend who had a 2015 Hangman's Syrah and said it was one of the best wines he has ever had. I am letting my Hangman's and Fuego y Mar's Syrah's sleep a little longer.

Red
2013 Donelan Syrah Cuvée Christine Sonoma County

Anyone who is a lover of Syrah and has not tried this (or any other Donelan Syrah) is truly missing out. Spectacular wine that has a polished entry, notes of blueberry, blackberry and marionberry. Subtle licorice and and a little pepper on the finish. Bravo!!!

12/11/17, 5:26 AM - Not being an expert, I can only go by what Parker/Jeb Dunnuck project on the drink windows. I can tell you, all of the following wines are drink well now, should only get better:

2013 Donelan Cuvee Christine: Parker score of 96+ (2019-2039), Jeb score 96 (2017-2027)
    2013 Donelan Kobler: Parker score 94 (2016-2026), Jeb score 95 (2017-2027)
    2013 Donelan Walker: Parker score 96 (2018-2023), Jeb score 97+ (2017-2033)

These are outstanding wine, Donelan continues to fly under the radar.

Licorice, dark and red fruit, sweet tobacco. So very good, nothing more to say.
  • YankeeRobio commented:

4/28/17, 6:01 PM - Didn't know there was a limit on postings. Do you not get different notes from the same vintage/wine at different times? Even when drank in a relatively short amount of time? Not sure why you are asking, but I am sure there is a good reason.
