Don't get what the fuss is about. Unbalanced and hot. Most interesting element was pineapple.

1.5 hour decant. Deep dark purple hue, soft tannins and good balance. I expected more from this vintage, but there appears a move towards more modern style wines at this once great chateau. Too bad.

This wine has a deep dark purple color to it, heavy body and an overwhelming 15.2% alcohol. It gives off aromas of dark fruits, licorice, graphite, cassis and a little cedar. It tastes of dark fruits, mineral, cassis and a little of what seems like cedar. Overall, not the most impressive Caymus Special Select. This wine does not have a prayer at aging like the older Special Selects will. If you like a meal in a glass and something that really does not pair well with any type of food, this is a good wine for you. I do not see this being much more than a 12 to at most 15 year wine from vintage date. Hopefully it improves, but I have my doubts given the lack of acidity to balance out the tannin. The alcohol is not a pleasant aroma nor is it really good in the flavor as well. The fruit will not outlast the tannin.
