Classic grand cru Bordeaux. If tastes blind I might have pitched it as a St Julian. Lean and graceful. Classic and elegant. Big on tannins, but cassis fruits and cigar box cedar intrude just before it gets too much. Perfect now if you like the true grittiness of classy medoc... maybe a little more length and purity of fruit (as with the 2005).. bit really satisfying!

Must be my 6th bottle and still a little confused. Such a glorious aroma. Earthy, exotic and complex. And the palate starts with gorgeous cherry raspberry and spicy notes with well integrated soft tannins. But then it seems to move to a more sour, cranberry like flavour that clashes and seems to exaggerate the tannins. Fontodi are without doubt my favourite Tuscan and probably Italian producer. Maybe I should have drunk these earlier.... but then I would have missed that incredible nose!... hey ho! The joys of fine wine!

I think temperature and food pairings are really important for this wine. 18 degrees ideal and pairing with something typically Italian and slow cooked works well with toning down the slightly over powering end notes. Actually would have scored it 93 by the end of the bottle last night!
