2000 Château Fombrauge St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Decanted at Marta for an hour+, smooth, some plum and a little leather. A lovely wine.
White - Off-dry

flawed
Flawed, well advanced. Probably heat damaged at some point
White - Sparkling
Delicious, lovely balance of acidity, minerality and fruit. Obviously young but lovely to drink now too
White - Off-dry
I liked it but was expecting far more. Good but didn't wow.
Red
1983 Château Beychevelle St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)

Cork was well worn and nearly broke apart on opening.
Initial funk blew off after a few minutes.
The nose was lovely, a combination of leather, some funk and fruit. What an aged Bordeaux should smell like.
Unfortunately the taste was someway off from what the nose promised. Probably a few years too late for the palate, shame. Would have loved to try this a few years ago.
Red
Drinking very nicely now but still has a few years left in it

Flawed - smelt cooked, like a medeira.
Red
Not a good bottle, shame
Not corked but a little stewed. :(
White - Sparkling
No detailed TNs but I liked it a lot.

A friend brought this to dinner at Degustation. Very Burgundian like. Lovely balance, nice acidity. A fabulous wine and no rush to open this. Love to see how it develop over time. Have 3 bottles and no rush to open this.

Opened a little hot and big for a Volnay with darker fruits. With more air, it soften a little and more red fruits. Good acidity and nicely balanced.
A nice wine
Red
2005 Château Bellisle Mondotte St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
From a 375ml bottle. Upon opening, the wine had a lovely nose that was fresh, with red fruits. On the palate, you get plums with a bit of soil. There's just a hint of leather and tobacco (?) secondary flavour development there too. A nice wine, drinking quite nicely now but with a few years left in this.

Best bottle to date. On each of the previous occasion, on opening you get the unappealing reductive nose which needed some time to blow off. Not this time, the bottle was fabulous right away. Folks around the table agreed that it was the best bottle they've had too. Enjoyed it a lot

Lovely nose. I know its suppose to be dry but I wished it had a touch of sweetness. The finish was abrupt and a touch bitter. I like it but it could be great

Nose was better than the taste. Too sweet and lack acidity and balance. I like the slight caramel and butterscotch aspect but the balance was off.

Had this a couple of month ago but wanted to try it again since a friend was in town and he was interested in it too.
Still young and not showing much. Lean and a bit austere right now. Sharp acidity and fruit started to show a little as time wore on. However I found a touch of bitterness in the finish which I wasnt a fan of.
2 bottles left, wont be touching it for at least a couple of years if not more

Drinking even better than my previous bottle. What an interesting (American interesting and not British interesting) nose. Floral, citrus with a little "je ne sais quoi". A beautiful and interesting wine. Shame this was my last bottle.

A light yellow color with a restraint nose (served a little chilled). Very nice floral and peach nose. Great acidity and lovely citrus elements. Young but very balanced - excited about the prospect in a few years.
I liked it a lot. 93-94 pts now but potential to go higher

It was massively oaked. There was a touch of citrus fruit on the nose but it was over-whelmed by the oak. On the taste, there was the waxy texture and a bit of "steeliness" (like drinking water from a metal cup) that I associate with Rhone whites but again the oak was just huge. Didnt enjoy this at all and none of us could drink even the small pour we did.

Served blind. However the nose and taste was typical Bordeaux and both Craig and David picked it as such. I love the nose and tannins are resolved. Oak under control. The wine is drinking well now.

A lovely wine. Opened impromptu when David popped round. A lovely nose of cirtrus and floral. Beautifully balanced, good acidity with a mere touch of sugar which adds to the delicious factor. An excellent wine. 92-93pts

Drank side by side with the 06 Herman Story Nuts and Bolts Syrah. This was better, more balanced. While there is some oak, it was much held in check.

Over-oaked, jammy fruit and the 16.5% alcohol was pronounce. For me this was OTT

Opened it for Thanksgiving dinner @ David and Jackie's. Really enjoyed it. Lovely floral nose, not overly sweet despite the reputation of the 2005 vintage, not cloying, good acidity - maybe could have a little more acidity. Showing really well.

Good but not wowed. Could be that it was only disgorged in Aug so maybe needed for time to settle down. Very good acidity though. 90-91pts

A cross between a more fruit driven Cali pinot and a Burgundy. Sightly darker with darker fruit than a traditional Burg but with good earthy tones. A nice wine.

Somewhere between a Cali chard and a traditional Chablis. Not quite as minerally with a little more fruit. There is definitely the wet stone component with decent acidity. Nice wine
Red
1985 Château Gruaud Larose St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Classic Gruaud Larose nose - very Cab Franc, nice.
Drinking beautifully an aged Bordeaux, not quite as good as the 83 which we had a few months back but very nice nevertheless.
Red
On opening, there was an incredible reductive smell which was a little off-putting (think rotting garbage !) with a touch of floral and citrus buried beneath the strong reductive nose. In the glass, with some air the reductive nose gradually receded leaving a floral and citrus scent. The colour of the wine is really light - like freshly squeeze ruby red grapefruit juice, maybe even lighter.
On the taste, it was delicious strawberries, grapefruit. Decanted and revisited throughout the evening and it was really good right to the end without the reductive nose. Not quite as amazing as the 2010 but this was a very nice wine.

Bigger, more masculine style of Burgundy, still young though there was some debate at the table as to whether it will improve with time. I have one left so leave that for a few years yet (NR)

Needed sometime to open up but a lovely balanced GG from Schafer Frohlich. A light touch of sweetness with good acidity mixed in nice tropical fruits. 91-92pts. Reckon this will will be even better in a few years. My other bottle will sleep for a little while yet

A beautifully stunning wine. As a friend astutely described it as a wonderful expression of Cab Franc.

On the nose, it had an amazing fresh and floral nose for such an old wine. On the taste, lilth with the Cab Franc signature of green peppers, vegetal aspect and lovely balance. I am not normally a Loire Red fan but this was a stunning aged wine which was showing really well.

Opened for my 40th dinner with some friends at Peking Duck House. A beautiful, elegant wine. The sweetness and acid in balance with lovely tertiary development of honey, butterscotch. Going back and tasting it at the end of the evening, the wine was still singing. Wow

Opened it at my 40th dinner (Peking Duck House) with some friends. A beautiful wine, elegant, sweetness and acid totally in balance. The wine was equally great at the end of the evening even after being opened for 3+ hrs.
