What was I thinking? I usually am suspicious of inexpensive wines, and generally don't buy anything that's less than $10 on principle. For some reason, I thought it sounded like it might be good. My mistake. I drank a bit, let it sit for a while, drank a bit more, and then realized how short life is, and moved on. I poured it out on the lawn.

Black composite pseudo cork; they'd have been better off to just use an honest screw top.

Live Wine Blogging, Reds (Wine Blogger's Conference, Walla Walla, Washington): Super dark in the glass! Cool evergreen notes work well with mature and delicate blackberry on the nose along with a hint of richness that I'm inclined to attribute to the oak. Lovely and soft on the palate with balanced tannins that create a dusty feel as it evolves. Acidity is even and contributes well to full blackberry flavors. A bit of red apple shows as well, and some heat appears on the mid palate, but it doesn't cause too much trouble. A bit of stemmy notes show on the mid palate. The fruit and the tannins are nice, but I'd prefer more complexity at this price point. 89+

11/9/14, 6:15 AM - Just read your review after enjoying the bottle last night, 11/8/2014, and loved our bottle but for sure it could have hung out longer as well. I remember buying this bottle at the winery in 2009 I think after a wine club tasting and knew from the get go we are talking 6-20 years on it!

Ruby-rust; apple cider vinegar, unripe strawberries, red currants; sour cherry, light body, harsh, short acidic finish.
Lots of volatile acidity and sour fruit which barely smoothed out with air. This must be Shelton's leftovers blend and that wasn't even done right. Received as a gift. The worst wine I've ever had! Who drinks this?

5/22/14, 6:19 PM - Been to the winery twice this year and after just moving from CA with a lower expectation of the wines I found this wine to be ok.... It is in my wine club shipment and I will drink the bottle soon and see what I think of the whole bottle. I also did a wine blending session with the Wine maker and he is a pretty down to earth guy but is more of a craftsman than a CA wine chemist/maker. I like Shelton wines well enough but the winery itself is very nice.
