Chateau Latour - 30 year vertical (1983-2010) tasted blind (Switzerland): Nose of dark fruit, forest floor, pine, a hint of greenness but not a disturbing one. Mid bodied palate, good aromatic persistency. A solid Latour, well done for the vintage and ready to drink now

No flaws but not very interesting. Decent fruit, still tannic, still shows oak. Meh.

Fully mature. Deep black fruits and a little tomato leaf. Velvety structure with very fine but faint tannin which is fully mouth coating. A little 1 dimensional

This wine is in great shape, maybe not at its peak but very enjoyable. It needed about an hour to open up.

Dark ruby color with some hints of amber at the rim. Enticing aromas of blackcurrant, pepper some tobacco and wt earth evolving with hints of licorice and lavender. Full bodied and smooth with some chewy layered tannins, ripe fruit and fresh acidity. The finish keeps on lingering for very, very long.
There still is quite a bit of structure left to develop further for many years to come but it is in great shape right now. Drink now - 2025

Needs 30-60 minutes of air. Cassis, black cherry, licorice, bay leaf, cedar, and earth. Good acidity, fine firm-ish tannins, medium finish. Nice wine. While not very complex at present, it's quite refined and delicious.

Pepper/spice nose -soft - subdued fruit flavors - tinges of brick red color. overall not too interesting
  • spineguy commented:

8/2/13, 4:18 PM - Different words but same thoughts on '96 Meyney.

Lemon juice with a bit of fizz. Perhaps a bad bottle but upon reviewing other tasting notes it may be consistent with them. Not complex. Decent finish but not spectacular. I don't understand the hype.
  • spineguy commented:

6/10/13, 6:53 PM - As I have not had La Grande Dame before and I am unsure if it is a bad bottle, past its prime, or I need further education, I will take it upon myself to find another bottle and retry it. I may then change my review and score.
