Mature brick red. Subdued leather notes with some mushroom, tobacco and forest floor on the nose. Full mouth feel with fully resolved tannins and a tad drying on the finish. Worked well with lasagne. Enjoyable!

Medium purple. This is soft and a bit sweet on the nose and palate with mostly dark berry fruit. Medium-bodied, simple without complexity.

Nose took awhile to unfurl but eventually delivered red-fruit with background notes of iodine, smoldering embers and fresh loam. Very young still but the quality is evident. Fairly high-toned with lots of energy, good length and a tannic backbone for further cellaring. Another 5 years should work wonders.

Aromatics of smoked meats with some saline and iodine notes in the background. Fresh red and dark fruits with excellent energy, lift and impeccable balance. Benefited from several hours of air. Delicious!

The nose on this wine was money. I could inhale this all day with its explosive fragrance of cured deli meats, truffles, unsmoked cigar and autumn leaves. A mid-weight palate that showed mature red fruits and a cedar-infused finish. Although the nose was open for business right away, this bottle really got going after an hour or so of air. A wonderful classic Bordeaux that is still firmly within its prime drinking window.

Still only hinting at where this wine will ultimately land with further cellaring, this bottle was wonderful. Lots of youthful energy on the nose with more red than dark fruits and some cedar, tobacco, mineral and lavender notes. More feminine than I expected given my experience with other vintages. Great inner mouth perfume, energy and lift with a long, long finish. Already very harmonious albeit with some tannins still to be resolved. A couple of hours of aeration really helped.

A burly, almost in-your-face blast of dark fruit, boot polish, creosote, coffee and distant toast and mineral notes. While not subtle, this wine did provide considerable pleasure with its dark-fruited, full-bodied, glycerin infused palate. Better after extended aeration. Drinking well now but with the structure to improve over another 5+ more years of cellaring.

A simple, quaffable wine with some sweet blue and black fruits and a hint of dark olive and coconut on the nose. This was medium-bodied with a shortish finish and not much complexity. Nothing really wrong with the wine, just a bit uninspiring particularly in the context of a strong vintage.

This was an excellent bottle with such a fragrant nose of mostly red berries, incense, summer flowers and Mediterranean herbs. The palate followed suit with striking inner mouth perfume and a long energetic finish. I only wish I had decanted a bit longer as the flavour intensity and delineation really improved after a couple of hours just as the last drops were being poured. In a great place now but with a decade of runway ahead for well-stored bottles.

Deep crimson. A lovely savoury, saline nose with a mixture of earth, game, blueberry, plum and dark fruits. Very polished mouthfeel. Medium to full-bodied with a plush mid-palate and an interesting herbal note on the finish. Still showing some tannins. I suspect this will continue to improve over the next 5 to 10 years. A very enjoyable and well-made wine.

Red cherry dominates the nose with warm beef blood, rooibos tea, cedar and cassis in the background. Lots of youthful energy on a medium-bodied frame and a juicy, vibrant finish. Better on day 2 so lots of air suggested. Enjoyable now and a long runway ahead.

A pristine bottle, this was ready to go from the first pour. Fully mature brick red, this gave off enticing scents of cured deli meats, truffle, damp earth and cedar. Medium-bodied and definitely more on the red fruit spectrum with some sweetness in the finish. This continues to hold up well and provided a terrific drinking experience. 94 pts.

Still a deep, almost impenetrable, purple belying its age. Very dark fruited, especially noticeable as it was drunk along some classified Bordeauxs of a similar age. This showed tar, boot polish, creosote, licorice and a hint of vanilla on the nose and delivered a plushly textured, full-bodied blast of dark fruit and an incredibly long finish. Excellent.

The '96 Lynch Bages has been a consistent performer for many years now. Excellent Pauillac typicity with its cassis, pencil lead, tobacco, earth and cedar-tinged nose and finish. This glides effortlessly across the palate, its fully resolved tannins leading to a lingering, cashmere finish. Always a treat.

Another superb example of this wine. Similar to my previous notes, unsmoked cigar, damp loamy earth, dark cherry, beef blood and sweet red cedar notes. Cassis, dark fruit and some eucalyptus in the background in a plump mouthful of claret with tertiary elements starting to become more prominent now. This is why I love Bordeaux. Delicious!

This wine was sensational, reminding me of a top quality Chablis on steroids. A bright, rich golden colour this delivered a wonderful minerally nose with an abundance of summer fruits. Lush and viscous in the mouth with terrific delineation, energy and a long, long finish. Absolutely loved it.

Popped and poured straight from the cellar which was a mistake. Even after several hours this never really got going. The nose was subdued showing notions of blackberries, dark cherry and an espresso note in the background. Not much on the palate with quite pronounced tannins. Perhaps this bottle was in a dumb phase. Fingers are crossed on the remaining ones in my cellar. Not rated.

This took awhile to get going but then delivered sweet wild strawberry, black raspberry, cola and a hint of citrus on the nose. Medium-bodied with good energy, most of the flavour fireworks were focused on the mid-palate. Better on day 2. Certainly enjoyable but can find a comparable pinot experience elsewhere for far less money.

Aromatically, this delivered dark cherry, dried fig, anise, loam and creosote. Plummy, dark berried fruit on a full-bodied tannic frame albeit with a pronounced greenness in the mid-palate initially. The palate really transformed after a couple of hours in the decanter to provide considerably more drinking pleasure. Quite hedonistic. This could merit a higher score eventually should all the elements better harmonize.

Did not decant. Fully mature, this poured a clear brick red. A pronounced nose of saddle leather, unsmoked cigar, deli meats, and loamy earth. The palate was lighter than expected with a bit of astringency in evidence and both the nose and flavours began to slowly recede after about an hour. Perhaps not the best bottle of this despite having been well-stored.

Liquid manuka honey colour. The wine delivered scents of marzipan, butterscotch, apricot and a distant hint of citrus. Rich and concentrated palate with a silky texture and sufficient acidity to provide lift. Tropical fruit flavours fanned out across the impressive finish that was not overly sweet. Delicious with lots of life remaining for well-stored bottles.

Sometimes curiosity gets the better of me. I like trying older wines from unheralded producers and/or vintages or ones that are simply long past their expected consumption window. Occasionally I just get lucky and discover a rare gem from a bottle that has absolutely no business whatsoever still delivering pleasure. This was one such bottle and, while it didn't set the world on fire, it was still hanging on for dear life and provided a fascinating nose and mouthful of tertiary notes, albeit with a slight sour/metallic finish. This 100% Cabernet poured cloudy despite standing upright for 2 days and the nose took on a more pruney tone after a few hours. Fun.

Nearing the end of its drinking window, this wine still provides considerable pleasure with its lovely cedar-infused nose, meat, pencil lead, and forest floor. Cashmere texture with fully resolved tannins. Not a blockbuster but a lovely, medium-bodied claret from a modest vintage. If you've got some in the cellar, you may wish to drink them sooner than later as I don't see any upside from here. Wonderful.

More vitality than the bottle I had back in 2016. Still showing the patina of age and with the last vestiges of fruit hanging on by a thread, but with more freshness on the nose and palate. Lovely texture and good range of complex tertiary flavours. Really very enjoyable.

Medium ruby. Still very young and only hinting at its potential. Telltale Pessac notes of graphite, wet gravel, garrigue, embers, blackberry and tobacco. Polished, yet tightly wound, showing less on the palate than the nose with a high-pitched, moderately tannic finish and lacking a bit of flesh in the mid-palate at this stage. Lots of potential here.

Brilliant deep purple. Heady nose of violets, black raspberry, plum, and spice with a mineral note in the background. Very floral and quite feminine. This was just lovely although we did it a disservice by not providing a longer decant - at this stage of its early life, about 3 hours in a wide-bodied decanter would have worked wonders. Terrific energy, tension and inner mouth perfume. This still has decades to run and the score will certainly move higher with the benefit of time. What a treat.

A pristine bottle with perfect cork and fill. This poured clear with the colour showing the patina of age. I chose not to decant based on other reviewers recent experiences which, in hindsight, proved not the best decision for this bottle. The nose and palate were quite closed at first and didn't really hit their full stride until the 2 hour mark just as we were finishing. What really struck me was the incredible viscosity of the wine. Very dense with great depth of flavour. It showed fabulous complexity with a mostly tertiary nose and palate - grilled meat, leather, potpourri, loam and Asian spice. The best bottle I have drunk of this wine so far. Pour carefully as this kicked up a lot of sediment in the last third of the bottle which had stood upright for a day before it was opened. Just superb!

What a beautiful wine this has become. Clear, medium ruby. Right out of the gate, aromas of sweet warm blackberries, garrigue, cedar, a hint of smoky embers and iodine. Showing excellent concentration, with a cool mid-palate freshness and energy. Still some tannins in evidence as this fans out across a spicy, blackberry finish. Throws quite a bit of sediment so a careful decant is suggested. I believe this still has at least another decade of prime drinking ahead of it.

The last bottle was flawed so delighted to discover this one suffered no such fate. Bright medium ruby. Fragrant nose filled with violets, sweet wild strawberry, ripe red cherry and garrigue. Still youthful, packed with juicy red fruit, good lift and terrific inner mouth perfume. This seemed several years away from hitting its full potential but was ever so good already. A couple of hours in the decanter is suggested.

Very tight at first, this wine benefited greatly from an 8 hour decant. Clear, medium garnet. Aromatics of cured deli meats with a whiff of iodine and smoke. Very fresh red and dark fruits with excellent energy, lift and impeccable balance. I thoroughly enjoyed this wine on its own but it would also pair superbly with grilled meat or pasta. This has at least another decade in its prime drinking window IMO and may well add another point or two down the road. Wonderful!

A modestly hedonistic fruit bomb. Deep garnet. Licorice, Asian dried plum, and dark cherry notes come to the fore. The fruit is front-end loaded with a burst of juicy, ripe dark cherries and toasty oak through to the mid-palate and a lingering dry back-end. Not endowed with a ton of complexity but this was a fun, immensely pleasing style of wine for a Tuesday afternoon.

Wow, this bottle was so much better than the last one a month ago. Pungent aromas of strawberry, red cherry, cola, fresh tilled earth. Some creaminess on the medium-bodied red-fruited palate, particularly on day 2. But I kept going back for that fabulous nose. Excellent!

My first experience with this small producer. Deep red. Dark cherry, spice and plummy notes on a rich, full-bodied frame with some lingering sweetness on the dry finish. Still young with some tannic structure to work through. Very enjoyable now although lacking some complexity which may emerge with more bottle age.

Light cherry red. Scents of candied strawberry, raspberry and red currant. Red-fruited palate with an abundance of acidity and decent lift but a bit short on the finish. I was left wanting for more on the palate. Very similar nose and flavour profile to the Blue Mountain pinot reserve which sells for 1/3 the price.

Wow, essence of syrah! Midnight purple with pungent aromatics of blackberries, boysenberries, Indian spices, and a bit of toasty oak. This wine rocked it on the palate with an opulent mouthful of juicy dark fruit, licorice and spice. Long teeth-staining finish. Thoroughly hedonistic and in the zone. Not sure if there is further upside from here given the tannins seem to have been fully subsumed into the fruit.

PNP. Clear medium garnet. Some smoked bacon, garrigue, leather and kirsch notes that had me hopeful. Sadly, a lean palate trying desperately to hang onto the last vestages of fruit with a drying finish. From a well-stored bottle seemingly about 5 years past its best.

This was the real deal. Deep glass-staining purple, bordering on black. Some similarities with the regular cab sav offering of the same vintage drunk a few months ago but with everything dialled-up a few notches. Pungent dark-fruited nose with creosote, earth, star anise and exotic spices. Full, round and lush palate with terrific energy and length. Some tannins still kicking around but the fruit more than holds its own. Recommend a good decant as this was just starting to hit its stride about 2 hours in as we finished the bottle.

Clear medium garnet with lightening towards the rim, this is now at its peak of maturity. Classic Pauillac nose. The wine had a creamy texture thanks to fully resolved tannins and took about an hour in the decanter to really deliver the goods. Lots of cigar and cedar notes on a sweet medium-bodied frame. I would recommend drinking bottles sooner rather than later to capture it at its best. Lovely tonight.

Deep purple. Reticent nose and palate which slowly unfurled over several hours in the decanter but still only hinted at its potential. There is a ton of fruit embedded under the structure which will set this up for a wonderful evolution. Still in its infancy, I expect this will take at least another 5 years or so before it enters prime time.
