I wasn't expecting a lot from this as I had recently had the 2008 Grand Ciel and found it a tad underwhelming. To my pleasant surprise, this was outstanding even with a PnP. Well-integrated tannins, lots of depth, and a great pairing with our bacon-wrapped figs and scallops.

Higher acid and less fruit than I recall, and something unidentifiable (VA?) on the nose.

Decanted for two hours. This was by far the favorite wine of the evening amongst all guests. Superb balance, black fruits up front evolving to lovely velvety cherry. Light graphite and earthy finish. I wish I had bought more bottles of this.

This bottle is better than I remembered, although I think it needs a few more years to soften out the angular tannins. The wine has aromas of black fruit and hints of fig, hazelnut and cedar. Flavor is fruit forward with a long finish.
