Brought it to a daube de boeuf dinner with friends along with a CDP style country wine and a Haut-Médoc to see what fits. The d‘Anglès performed amazingly. This is a terribly underrated wine. Now that the tannins have resolves it‘s heavenly with the mourvèdre providing excellent character. A viscous mouthfeel, great length. Ripe but not overripe, an elegant and serious wine, but easy to access. Totally underrated by other tasters, I find.

Yes, the 12yo BDX had a lot of friends and the jammy CDP style bottle was charming (but a bit bland). But none of the others played with the flavours of the dish like d‘Anglès did.

And then all of a sudden I find a last bottle hidden underneath what might be skiing equipment. This is drinking wonderfully. Super soft on the tongue, with the warmth of 2010, not overly complex but thrilling. Still some fruit accompanied by shy secondaries such as cigar box etc. What a great drink on a grim and rainy evening, 14 years after the vintage.

This has received a lot of praise in the past. And I can see why. One mouthful of champagne. The aromas are densely packed into a juice of fine perlage. Both noble and very accessible, playful and serious. Definetely among the best champagnes I‘ve tested in the last few years.

The tannins have stopped being a pain in the butt, leaving this wine to be a still youthful and rather powerful chap. It drinks a bit too well, caused me to refill my glass too often.

14 years after harvest this has reached a stunning place. The previous bottles were nice, but now it truely shines. Very BDX but has seen more sun. Comes close ro some of the top notch Bolgheri reds. Stunning balance between some remaining fruit, herbal and earthy notes. Guests couldn‘t stop talking about it.

First of six. Showing nicely, feels quite young. Fruit is there, as are some tannins. First signs of maturity but far from the right spot. I shall wait a few more years, have a feeling that this will become a rather beautiful specimen. Potential is there!

Had it with deer stew. Bought years ago in Alto Adige, had it stored at 12 degrees C. It still tastes very youthful. Great drink, no doubt, matches the descriptions below. But I expected just a little bit more development. Looks like this will carry on for a while.

This has developed beautifully. A rich and generous wine with a touch of freshness. The nose is relatively shy, but the mouthfeel is marvellous. Will keep a few years.

All I expected from this GC Gewürztraminer. But puzzling that I got a bit tired of drinking it after a few glasses. A tad too much sweetness, perhaps?

Lovely stage. Appealing nose, nicely soft tannins. Guests were quite pleases. If stored well no need to drink up fast. Served with deer stew.

Beautiful mature nose, very elegant. Bit weak on the palate but still what you‘d expect from a 17 year old bordeaux of its class. Still brillant colour. Tiny bit of sediment only.

Forgot about a little rest in the bottle for a week. I must say that las glass was even better, more complex and more expressive. Seems to have a pretty long life ahead of itself.

A rather fabulous rosé champagne with a unique character. Rasperry, strawberry and redcurrent jam, underlayed with a rather present note of marzipan and some meringue. Very yummy, not very strong acidity, makes it perfect for drinking early in the day.

What a treat. Maturity on the nose, tangy and salty on the palate. So expressive, even a poor long covid nose managed to get something out of it.

Very shy on the nose. Nice, precise on the palate, could be a tad more voluptuous. The 2006 from Bouchard I had before was more of a charmer.

What a charmer. Still strong on fruit, vibrant acidity yet silky texture and very elegant burgundy GC mouthfeel. Enjoyed it a lot more than the 2013 I had last year.

At ten years of age it finally came around. Very nice minerality, fruit with an ever so slight bitter taste alongside. Long, a wine for a festive occastion.

A rather thrilling white from a town that‘s all about its reds. The Vougeot Blanc has an intensely beautiful nose and shows both depth and an almost electric fresh mouthfeel. Some wood, but not overwhelming. A lovely Chardonnay from the Côte de Nuits, rather a rare wine.

Showing some terroir funk, there is the tad of sweetness mentioned. I detect signs of early maturity, maybe some yellow apple compote. Pleasant, calm acidity, though.

What a wine! Came after a Krug that set the tone. The Montrachet was shy on the nose at first. After a while it started to stretch out. A very lively and sophisticated teenager that showed a remarkable freshness on the nose revealing the grape it stemmed from. Very round in the mouth with a great balance between acidity, wood and depth. Such an incredibly long mourhfeel, I wish that my good reds would remain that long. Truly a privilage to taste a Montrachet once in my lifetime.

In comparison to a decent white burgundy the Löwengang is somehow neither heavy norlight, it offers a pretty concentration and a spectrum of aromas. I suppose it will hold several more years.

This will never be fantastic. But there‘s something very likable about Ch Cantemerle 12. Not a beauty, but it has a certain charm to it. Tannins are soft enough to continue drinking after the meal is finished. Fruit and hints of secondaries are balanced. Works.

I like it whan a host lets me pick a bottle from their cellar. Decided for a 95 Ducru because I tasted the 96 two years ago and loved it. Too long ago for comparing, but definitely the same breed. The 95 is down right gorgeous on the nose. Interwoven fruit, dark berries, with secondary aromas, some hints pine needle. Elegant mouthfeel, refined tannins. A noble yet very approachable wine. Bottle was empty very quickly.

What a difference to my last bottle some three years ago. Some orange reflexes on the rims. Not a bomb, but showing elegant fruit. Not so much on the earthy side yet. Works for me.

Quick taste en route. This is serious Merlot business. Concentrated, powerful yet no overpowering. It‘s minutes after I swalloed the last drop that I realize what I‘ve just tasted. This should be among the most impressive Merlots of Europe. Not one of the fancy names though. Yet.

This is stunning. But let‘s start from the beginning. This Summer I went to a wine store in Uzès and told the owner I need to bring back a tour of lovely Languedoc wines (the not so lovely ones I‘m quite familiat with). I‘ve been ignoring that region except for cheap rosé and the odd la Clappe wine.

Among others he gave me Le Roc des Mates from Ch Cazeneuev. And I‘m like: shit day, let‘s pop a random bottle.

Back to the beginning: this is stunning. Beautiful ripe syrah notes with some Grenache to add spice and herbs. Gorgeous noble, nose. Some dark berries and chocolate. Very delicate tannins, grand but fun to drink, a magnificant wine considering I paid about 20 euros. Bravo! Bravo! Will get some more next time.

It grew on me. First of a case of six. Definitely young, but after decanting for a while turns out to be a fairly easy drink. It‘s less in-your-face than other supertuscans. Both fruit and ‚power‘ in general are a bit shy in the beginning. There is menthol on the nose. And the smell I got when I walked through the bushes to the tuscan beach this Summer, like Italian garrigue. Intrigued to see where this is going in a few years from now. Definitely cabernet on the strong side. Very insecure about the 93 score I gave, though. Could be higher?

A rather pleasent wine. Quite some sediment, but a full mouthfeel with fine tannins. Medium complexity, the Can Franc was showing on the mild side, no greenish or overly herbal notes. Drank very well, a nice surprise.

After sitting for an hour this showed nice aromas on the nose, very BDX left bank with a hint of Bolgheri. Didn‘t show quite the strong concentration. Bell pepper, dark fruit, good acidity. Drank very well. Not an overperformer, but very elegant and solid.

I can see myself having a glass of this every day for the rest of my life. One of those champagnes that take ages to finish. Because you take tiny sips. Very mineral with citrus fruit and some aromas that got lost in conversation. There is nothing haughty about this Cristal, like a stunningly beautiful person who just happens to be genuinly super friendly.

There are some good ingredients. On day three the nose finally gave them away. However the tannins were still much too prominent. In three years this might have calmed down a bit. Not bad. But no star.

Quel Beaujolais! Some chocolate shavings and dark, half dried cherries on the nose. Sweetish on the palate, with just the right amount of dryness. Goes down awfully well. Thus far I haven‘t had a Beaujolais that gave me so much pleasure. Bravissimo!

Just got a delivery of twelve well stored bottles. Still going strong, not showing its age. This is not the most distinguished Meursault I have ever tried, but it is drinking very well. A very pleasant drink. If there was once overwhelming wood it has definitely integrated well by now.

What do you expect from a 36 y/o wine? Certainly not this. The 82 mouton was still youthful, the nose awoke after an hour, the wine kept changing in the glass, aromas popped up and vanished again to make room for others. This seems to have power to go for decades. Dense, intense, vibrant and just so yummy. A true delicacy and an honour for me to get the opportunity to try it. Wow.
