Having dinner in Whitsunday's i thought i review this wine which is being discounted across Dan Murphy's stores ..
Wonder Why you may ask??

On opening we have mid green straw in colour with a lemon rim at Feb 2024.. as expected for this age ..
Now on the nose we have developing mature bottle aged Sav characters with some lantana and gooseberries showing .. too mature for me just saying , but its now 3yrs old just saying and freshness is gone..

Now on the palate we have similar flavours to above still some mature fruit but going nowhere and i would not recommend anyone to purchase even at $11 dollars .. You can do much better than this wine ..Remember This style of wine is best when released as its not a wood aged style , Selling it at this age is trap for many punters ..
If you have drink up with seafood best this year..

As its Australia Day today 26th Jan 2024 , i though i would review this Pipers Brook's Winery best sparking on the commerical Market , it always does not disappoint winning many gold Medals around the Australian wine Shows, Recently again in Tasmania in 2023.. This winery was sold from its original owner Dr Andrew Pirrie , but he retains helping here in Winemaking and vineyard support..Sparkling wines are the future for many vineyards in Tasmania and are a good source of cash flow for the many growers in that area of Northern Tasmania. big winery's like LVMH are huge buyers here as with many large wineries..
Anyway now on opening we have Nice clean Lemon straw colour , yes fresh with no signs of any bottle development and straw rim with fine persistent bead.. v/nice as i like with NV sparkling . Triage here is 18mths on lees.
Now on the nose with have fresh brioch yeasty characters but not too strong with lovely citrus fruit flavours of lemon/limes ....Perfect for this style..
Now on the palate we have similar flavours to above upfront ,nice med bodied richness , with again nicely balanced long finish even tho with a hint of sweetness giving excellent length with no short finish , not big on the acid tho..
In summary excellent drinking over the next 12mths best and perfect with lobster tails and garlic butter ..Cheers
QPR $25 about right Supporting Local ( Aussie ) production ..

On a steamy Saturday afternoon in the Whitsundays with a lovely sea breeze helping and having Fajitas for Dinner , i though i would check out this chardonnay from my Favourite area for this variety..From the small family owned winery Driftwood.
On opening we have strong Lemon straw in colour with a lemon rim ...Maturing and ready
Again on opening we have strong Lemon/Lime citrus flavours leaping, out of the glass , not overripe fruit here with well integrated oak and some malo characters too ..Ready for my style may i say..
Now on the palate we have maturing fruit flavours similar too above upfront , nice medium bodied mid palate richness and again nicely balanced maloish finish giving good length with little acidity for freshness, so in summary good drinking over the next few years best and perfect with seafood or lite meat dishes ,,
QPR $25 about right

New Years Day here in Tropiclal Whitsundays overlooking Hamilton Island were we missed the heavy storms and having lovely SE Winds giving mild day for Summer here.. I was to be in Melbourne last night , but unforseen changes happened , i had to cancel so . later in the Autumn will be my trip south checking on regions in Vic & SA ..

Anyway , i thought its New years day and as i still a few bottles left of this great wine i give you a update.. Decanted for 15mins with perfect cork , i give you a update..Still deep black core in colour with a ruby rim at Jan 2024. perfect colour for a 16yr old wine.. Ready to enjoy but No signs yet of being finished or too old , amazing for its age..

Wow leaping out of the glass Ripe sweet black fruits ( Blackcurrants, Plumbs and blueberries with hints of dark chocolate ) everywhere on the nose and with lovely tobacco complexity and still some very good oak showing ..Amazing for its age Ready for certain ..

Now on the palate sweet fruit still upfront , still rich mid palate sweetness and lovely soft oily tannins giving amazing length for a wine of this age ... Yum what a drink and just proving how good wine can be from this difficult area to grow grapes , just look at this season were they have been hit by hailstones and heavy rain...But this is the risk in the New England areas from northern NSW to Southern Qld and the great diving range ..Stanthorpe region is the highest area around 3000ft above sea levels on sandy granite soils

Worth checking out if you can find, check out Auctions , trust me and OZMANGO is correct as it will live still for a few years yet as the fruit is so good.. Great wine is hard to find .. QPR $80+ if you find

On Boxing Day holiday and having some Porterhouse Beef with Black Pudding it demands a great Shiraz from one on my favourite areas for this variety in Australia and from the great 2018 year in this district of Victoria. Having this wine in my Whitsundays Apartment so direct from one of my Wine fridges.

This winery in recent years has gone to the next level in quality esp, from 2017 vintage onwards.. New winemakers are now taking this winery to its greatest level. They have such great vineyards and with perfect growing area, so watch out.

On opening we have Black opaque core in colour with a lovely purple rim at DEC 2023.. Excellent and youthful
Now on the nose we have leaping out of the glass ripe sweet black fruits of plumbs ,blueberries and some whole berries with Dark chocolate and iodine characters which i associate with great cool climate shiraz , no tar or leather ( old fashioned characters here) anymore ..All in balance with nice newish vanilla oak too adding great complexity .. Class for certain ..

Now on the palate we have ripe sweet fruit upfront with similar characters to above, nice rich med palate sweetness and lovely long oily tannins giving great long finish ..
Wow for a comerical wine being there ,cheapest and largest production version is why i love this Winery now.. Excellent value for money QPR $30 A Must buy, because the fruit is so good will live for another 5yrs plus if looked after.. Worth seeking out and keeping .. Gold Medal here again..

Sunday afternoon on son's Birthday , i wanted to put my thoughts on this very good winery and having Salmon Filets for dinner too.

On opening we have Straw Lemon in colour with a lite lemon rim at Dec 2023... Nice as expected..
Again on opening we have leaping of of the glass lovely typical Marlborough ripe fruit flavours without the nasties.. Clean tropical fruit flavours . Nice but ready to enjoy for certain.
On the palate we have ripe similar flavours upfront , some bottle developing characters on mid palate , which worries me alot at this age , and nice maturing fruit finish without too much acid so gives good length with clean acidity. Interesting i may say . Not quiet what i expected as i expected more freshness anyway , you must enjoy over the next 6 months best in my opinon. This will not keep. Drink up..
Good On premise style but not so cheap ok. Qpr $15 max

Its Friday night ,Lamb for dinner so i thought i give review of this Big wine and tell you how its going at Nov 2023.
I also note that 2017 vintage for Reds have turned out better for those dry grown regions North of the Great divide Ranges ( Heathcote, Pyrenees and Nth East Vic ) than those south of the ranges ( like Yarra Valley ,Mornington and Bellarine area) due to more Maritime conditions. Due to great rains in 2016 gave a huge crop in many SE Australian areas. One must always go granular.

Anyway we have in the glass Black opaque colour with still purple rim at Nov 2023. excellent may i say.
On opening we have Deep ripe blueberry , Dark chocolate and iodine fruit characters leaping out of glass with well integrated oak all in balance for its age ..v/nice for there std comerical wine may i say ..
Now on the palate we have ripe sweet fruit flavous similar too above upfront , nice mid palate richness with some maturity showing and nice sweet oily tannins giving great i may say with some cool climate acid coming threw on the back palate .. Tres bon ... Salute ,,, Worth checking out for certain and QPR $28 is good value ,,Drink from now for the next three years best..

This wine came my way recently and as it had not been reviewed by anyone here's a update for my readers and followers.. Nov 2023. From the good cool 2019 vintage in Vic .

On opening Deep ruby red core with ruby rim at Nov 2023. As expected for style and price point

Again on opening we have lovely berryish black fruits leaping out of glass with nice chalky and tobacco green notes too adding complexity with aged older oak treatment .. Again ok and nice for this price point and large production

Now on the palate we have nice sweet fruit flavour similar too above upfront , lite to medium bodied mid palate richness with strong medium weight chalky tannins on the finish giving lingering aftertaste .. Because of not using newer oak here tannins are not that well balanced in my opinion as fruit may not carry there aggression just saying .. Maybe be better in a year or so but saying that i don't think the fruit will carry .. So in summary enjoy over the next year or so ok.. Perfect with Red meats as tannins will cut threw the sweet meat best.. On Premise wine (restaurant ) for certain for dinner at fair price ..QPR $15

Just a quick note for readers.. After having steaks for dinner it was most appropriate ..
On a another lovely day in beautiful Whitsunday's this wine is just right for my region as its not too strong and with perfect balance ..
On opening we have lovely black colour with purple rim at Oct 2023.. v/nice
And again on opening we have lifted flavours of sweet blackfruits of plumbs , mulberries and NO clovey characters which you see in Mendoza Fruit AG. and also nice balanced oak here.. v/nice
On the palate we have similar flavours to above upfront , med to lite mid palate richness .. and nice sweet long tannins without the grainy characters you see on AG style Malbec's ..
Bleasdale may have found its NICHE may i say and we now understand Wolf Blass when he was the real person who stood up for this region.. Aust's Mendoza?? Langhorne Creek we will see .. But it looks that way and Show Judges agree... QPR $15 best and worth buying for drinking over summer just saying.. This wine is not as good as the great 2020 its a good follow up even tho its not as rich..

Just a quick review from this Pernod Ricard Group Winery , which i note is being heavily discounted across Aust. ok. You can buy for $10-13 Aud at the moment and i also note this Liquor Empire are thinking os Selling off Labels like this and Jacobs Creek as the Recession moves on across the world.. Anyway thats Business.
2022 Vintage in Malborough NZ was a HUGE Vintage in crop size so expect many bargain wines from this large crop .. just saying
On opening with have typical lovely lite green straw in colour with a lemon rim at Sept 2023. .nice as expected ..
Again on opening lifted lemongrass , gooseberries and herbaceous flavours as expected , well balanced and typical for this style , which means early drinking ok. Perfect lunch wine at Rest. esp. as you cant go wrong and not get too ripped of on price.
On the palate we have ripe lush fruits similar to above , nice mid palate richness and that cleansing acidity on the finish which makes these wine great value for money .. No oak here thank god... Great style and perfect with seafood for lunch ... QPR $13 is good value these days ..Worth checking out as 2023 will be a Horror Vintage coming due too the heavy rains ... just saying . enjoy now this wine

On a lovely Whitsunday Sunday afternoon , i though lets explore this wine from reliable producer who retails threw Woolworths group ( Dan Murphy Stores )..
On opening we have Green Straw in colour with a lemon green rim at May 2023. As expected .
Again on opening with stelvin closure, we have some lifted sulphur marzipan characters masking the fruit which is not typical of this style? .. Very Said not good winemaking here and trying to be more Loire in Style? Why?
On the palate we have fruit being masked by poor winemaking and over sulphuric characters running on the palate either this is a poor bottle for some reason or those who reviewed this wine must have got a different sample ..I suggest the later as Stelvin closure never lies just saying and wine has been in cool conditions all the time.. Very Poor effort and Poor winemaking .. Stay away readers and it cost $12 dollars not worth it as u could get much better for $8 even than this.. Salmon filets with dinner might help i hope..

Its friday night Steak Night so , Lets ahve a look at this wine of Ten years of age .Many mixed reviews here so lets give follower a Real update and true Aust.Wine Show judge rating ok.

On opening direct from wine fridge we have Deep Black opaque core in colour with deep purple/ruby rim at April 2023. Excellent and as expected from the great 2013 vintage in McLaren Vale. Many years of life a head .. excellent

Now on opening and leaping out of the glass , ripe sweet blackcurrant cab fruit with a hint of tobacco leafyness typical of cabs from this region and lovely sweet vanilla new french oak flavours too only giving more liking to this beauty .. Outstanding for this Area which is Shiraz & Grenache Heaven usually.

On the palate again on opening we have ripe sweet fruit upfront , maturing mid palate structure and now loosing fruit sweetness which is a big worry ,as it may be overextracted and shows now too much tannin for the lack of fruit... Balance on palate is poor ..MMM thats what other people are seeing and i must agree .. Said as it smells great , colour great but palate loosing fruit now for certain ..I suggest Sell if you have or drink quick ...
It also confirms my thoughts about Cab Savs in McLaren Vale are best at younger ages up to five years too..

Wow factor on opening too with lovely Dark Chocolate shiraz fruit leaping out of the glass and still lovely depth of black fruits showing with great integration of new oak used ..Excellent just shows how good this fruit is from there vineyard above the Porepunkah Valley Township and out of the mist which you get in that area. Picked just at max ripeness around 14 =14.5 %
Now on the palate we have similar flavours to above upfront ,still rich medium bodied mid palate sweetness of fruit and nice soft tannins with just a lick of acid at the end .. Perfect drinking for me may i say just the style i like and balance and for its AGE showing how good this winery is esp the micro size .. This Winery and the Wines are in the Top Ten in Aust's small wineries for sheer quality. QPR $70 + if you can find .

Amazing for its age and i note being in a screw cap helps with this slow aging process.Well done
Tannat is a variety used in the great Cahors District of France were again produces big rich tannic wines .
I hope the new owners of this winery keep up the vision from previous owner Peter stark who made this wine.
On the nose now we have maturing black fruit flavours of blackcurrants with tobacco and plumbs and still nice integrated new vanilla oak showing which you expect at this age of 10yrs and ready to enjoy for certain. Nice

Getting ready for certain to enjoy as you would expect at this age. Again on the palate we have ripe sweet fruit upfront , maturing mid palate sweetness still and soft slightly green tannins on the finish with still quite a bit of acid coming threw meaning its ready to enjoy before fruit fades away. The Famous winemaker here who has now sold out was a visionary and way adhead of his day in the difficult area to grow grapes and he understood the need to have low yields to produce wine of such quality. Like many small wineries in Aust. nothing is easy and its understanding your fruit quality that makes great wines with great oak. A privilege to have for dinner and i still have a couple of bottles left to enjoy in the next year or so.. Cheers QPR $40+ with you can find at auctions

Lazy Sunday evening in Melbourne having Peking Duck for Dinner so i though i have a look at this great Barbera from one of the great small vineyards in the low yielding Granite Belt region of QLD were this winery is the benchmark across Aus. Pity the winemaker/Owner Sold this fine estate in recent times but totally understandable under current condition. People in the know seek out wines from this estate as its a very difficult area to produce fine wine due to the Summer storms.

saying that its QLD best winery and in the top ten wineries in Aust, very small production and shows how good wine is from this cool climate at high elevations.
On opening we have still at this age Deep Ruby Red in colour with maturing ruby rim at Jan 2022.Ready and mature nice
On the nose opening we have nice ripe sweet blackfruits showing and n0w nice bottle development too as expected at this age of 8yrs.
nice and in very good condition, stelvin closure helps.
On the palate we have sweet fruit upfront similar flavours to above with now maturing mid palate richness and perfect soft oily tannins giving long finish with that maturity which is at its peak and ready and enjoy with Duck...Yum. Pleasure to drink
QPR $35 at auctions

Having a lazy Saturday afternoon in Melbourne with my partner , so i thought i have a look at the wine which came via Qantas Wines .
On opening we have pale green straw in colour with a lovely lemon rim at Jan 2022. Excellent for age and a total surprise and from a great year for certain n this area.
Again on opening slightly chilled we have a lovely expression of this Variety in a Modern euro style from classic roots , as being perfect balance of Fruit with some nice aged oak complexity similar to great Loire Wines of this variety , Fruit flavours of lemon/lime citrus complexity without that hit u in the face typical NZ tropical style . Elegance/understated flavours is the go here which is v/good indeed and puts faith in this variety in Aust for certain.
On the palate this wine proves made well its worth checking out from this winery. Rich ripe fruit upfront , Rich mid palate and super long finish which just lingers and lingers .. Wow Great wine for certain and perfect drinking over the next year or so, , Worth checking out QPR $25 perfect Drink with chicken thighs best . Cheers

Time to look at this wine for Dinner tonight, in Melb during this cold start to summer down here, anyway
On opening we have deep Brick Red in colour with a ruby rim at Dec 2021. ok but expected richer colour tho, maybe these guys are blending too much fruit from too many growers and districts,
2017 Wines from this big crop is now showing why be careful in your selection as i reported before.
On the nose we have sweet shiraz fruits of plumbs prunes with some spice , not too ripe and not great oak treatment either and now showing the signs of this huge crop , i suggest this wine is quiet commercial in style and meant for early consumption . ok style good rest style
On the palate we have again similar flavours to above upfront , lite to medium bodied mid palate richness, and nice soft tannins giving nice length but in my opinion a wine to enjoy over the next few years with nice rich sweet meat dishes.
QPR $25 max Being sold too expensive due to the label.

After coming back from McLaren Vale in April , i though i would review this wine for readers as i was impressed by it at the winery in April.
Theses guys are doing great work with Grenache and Shiraz , This winery is placed in the highest area of McLaren Vale so very cool climate due to the elevation of the vineyards. The Jackson Family from California became new owners here and the Wine Quality has really improved . This variety is usually blended with Marsanne in France and make the High Quality Whites of Northern Rhone region ( Condrieau , Hermitage Blanc etc. )

On the palate we have similar flavours to above , not too heavy but balance is the key here with a super long finish which just lasts in the mouth for minutes . A Must buy for certain and perfect with fresh oysters best. Yum QPR $10 a BARGAIN.. trust me ..

Not cheap these days as prices rising fast due to old vines here. If u have visited this winery u would notice the virtual sun trap the vineyards are in this area and why they do so well. This winery being owned by Treasury Wines and access to capital also helps , but saying that this wine is better than the 2012 for certain. QPR $60+ is getting up there .Perfect with rare Duck or beef best ..Cheers
