Chocolate Cherry Cordials. Spicy oak. Slight dill note. Good acid and long life ahead. No sense of age yet.

Would rather drink this at $15 then some California wines at three times the price point. Good acidity and tannic structure that makes it great with some charcuterie.

Not bad for an everyday GSM blend. Nice wine to have on hand just in case guests come over unannounced.

Nothing special, but will not offend anyone either.

Good price, but way too much fruit and sweetness for the structure. Lacks balance. Needs more acid to balance the overwhelming fruit. There are better wines at similar price points out there.

I got a bottle of the Hypothesis based on how much I enjoy Educated Guess as a good weeknight bottle. The higher price of the Hypothesis is seen in the bottle as this is a much bigger wine than Educated Guess, but this is a case in which more is not better, at least for me. This borders too much on the fruit bomb/vanilla /milk chocolate flavor profile that I don't enjoy as much as others. Fans of Silver Oak and other Steakhouse Reds, may enjoy this, but not for me.

You are most likely not going to find a more balanced and drinkable cab at this price point. For $12 a bottle I buy it all day. Good tannins on the finish with just enough acid to keep it from being the usual fruit bomb vanilla swill. This is my go to weeknight bottle with a burger.

Very dark in the glass

Nose is like a slightly ripe left bank bordeaux. Slight forest floor, rosemary, dark cherries, dark raspberries, suede, and bbq meat.

Good structure on the palate, with medium+ tannins and good balancing acid to round out the mouthfeel. Dark chocolate, espresso beans, dark plums, dark raspberries, and something slightly herbal and savory. Hides its alcohol well.

Still very young and will get better with age. Very happy that California can still make big wines that are still well balanced.

Big nose of ripe stone fruit, mango, and white flowers, almost Viognier-like.

Medium acid for a 2015, was expecting much more. Key lime pie, apricot, sweet ruby red grapefruit.

More off-dry than dry. Tasty, but a bit simple.

Dark chocolate covered cherries on the nose with some dill and oak spice.

Dark fruit and more wood spice with a fairly good level of acid keeping things fresh enough. Clear american oak influence as per the style but fairly well integrated.

Drinking much better than the 2004 which will probably require much more time.

2014 Les Hauts de Larrivet Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Obviously too young too young to give a full scoring for my palate but has promise and is fairly approachable even now.

Nose does not give much except for some spicy dark fruit.

Palate is smokey with dark berries that hits a wall of tanning with good acidity. Tastes a little hot but hopefully that will dissipate with some time in the bottle.

Decanted for 6+ hours and drunk over next 3 hours.

Nose is clearly Cali Cab from a ripe vintage. Mocha, fruit liqueur, almost a peaty note? oak, violets, and licorice come together for a big round nose.

Palate is extremely rich and requires substantial food to prevent palate fatigue. Dark sweet cherry, blueberry, oak, slightly vanilla, heavy on the wood spices. I wish it had some more acidity to balance out all the ripe fruit and richness. Too round for me. Tannins were not as bad as I expected and the finish was loooong.

I would say it is extremely well made, and of high quality. It is extremely young, but I still don't know if I enjoy this style of California Cab.....

Drinking at or near it's peak but will most likely hold for another 5-7 years before starting a slow decline. Decanted for 2.5 hours.

Nose is full of earthy characteristics at this stage lead by ceder, sawdust, suede, and maybe even sage? The heavy Cab franc has mellowed and is probably showing more of it's earthy greenness.

Flavors are big on the palate of dusty black cherries, dark chocolate, and a good mineral streak. Tannins have more or less been resolved but the alcohol on this one was slightly more noticeable than on my previous bottle. 45+ finish.

Beautiful Riesling clearly Alsatian.

Showing notes of white flowers, slightly smoked herbs, petrol, honey and raw almonds on the notes. Good mineral note without being overdone with a medium+ that balances out the tropical fruitiness. Texture on the palate was waxy/oily and mouth coating with a 45 second finish that just lingers.

Wow. Close your eyes and smell, and you could swear it was a riesling with a little bit of age from the slight notes of petrol. Tasted blind, you could also swear it was a 1er cru white burgundy.

Nose full of green apple core, minerals, lemon pith, pear, ripe white nectarine, tarragon? and white flowers.

Palate is like a mouth full of crush stones and green apples with a long finish. Extremely focused and clean.

Needs a lot of air to flesh out and become enjoyable. Very layered and not as modern/fruit forward as I had expect.

Lots of terroir and savory notes with good amounts of acid at first until the dark sweet berry flavors open up underneath. Still lots of tannins on the finish.

Still needs at least 5 to 7 more years to reach drinking window and should be drinkable for 15+ years still.

Wine comes alive in complexity closer to 55 degrees than overly chilled.

Smells of unsweetened baked apples, pie crust, almonds, white pepper, slightly white flowers, and strong minerals.

Palate: wine fills out and grows with air. No detectable levels of oak. Very nutty. Closer to a white burgundy in flavor profile than a fruity, malo, oaked style. Very well balanced with slight bits of tropical fruit, with a well structured mid-palate. Medium to long finish. Not for the acid-heads but enough acid to keep all the other flavors in check and keep it fresh.

Delicious and complex. Reminds me a lot of the LdH Vina Gravonia if it were made in Burgundy by an American. Needs at least 5+ years to come together and develop even more complexity.

Very modern style of Bordeaux, which I do not really care for but I can see why people enjoy it. Not overy structured and very approachable now. Good acid, and medium tannins that do not get in the way.

Dark berries and chocolate on the palate with a medium finish of toasted oak. Nothing overly complex.

Loads of dark berries but not a fruit bomb as it tastes well balanced with just enough acid to keep things tasting fresh. Seems like it's around maturity with no tannins to speak of and a few secondary and tertiary flavors coming through to keep it interesting. Too bad it's my only bottle.

Tannins, tannins then some more tannins. You want some more tannins with your tannins? After a few hours in the decanter, there was a glimpse of fruit but still not much. Maybe it needs more time in the bottle for the tannins to settle but I cannot tell if it has the fruit to last.

Decanted for sediment then drunk after about an hour to and hour and a half.

Nose is oak and blue fruit, dried fruit, white flowers.

Palate: A little too much vanilla for my tastes leading to a creamy berry flavor. Not a bad bottle and tannins are fully resolved. Enjoyable wine but a little one-dimensional. Will not improve with age. Drink up.

Holy Chinon. After decanting for sediment, this was drunk over a 2.5 hour period.

Nose: Full of fire roasted tomatoes, wet tobacco, ash, wet twigs, soggy mushrooms, and a forest after a day of rain, with a faint spice at the end.

Palate: Very savory at first with bell pepper, green herbs, more tobacco that later opened up wonderfully into wild brambly strawberries with a long smooth finish.

Fully mature and no tannins to speak of, but the wine still has the fresh fruit to last at least 5 more years if well stored. Amazing.

Fairly straight forward wine that lacks a little depth, but enjoyable as a weeknight wine.

Nose: Floral, mascerated berries, peppered beef jerky.

Palate: Low to medium tannins, slight heat, fresh blackberry, cocoa powder, black pepper. Medium Finish

Wine was good on the nose, but palate is very disjointed. Good fresh berries and red fruit, some spice, and floral notes but none of the aspects ever real came together in the bottle or in the glass.

Perhaps needs more time, but at this point it was very disappointing.

Was the consensus WOTN. Big Big wine that took almost 4 hours in a decanter to fully open up. Nose was like a wet forest of cedar tree and fresh beef with hte palate showing smoked black ripe cherries with herbaceous dark chocolate finish that kept going.

Still fairly young and has a decade left easily.

Delicious. Delicious. Delicious.

Slight carbonation and big fruity nose of ripe stone fruits and lemon meringue pie.

Definitely some RS left at about 40g but well balanced with some acidity to keep it fresh on the palate with a longer than expected finish. Medium to full body and once again... delicious.

Wow... for a 26 year old wine... just wow.

Top of the cork was completely black and the cork overall was very soft as the ah-so actually cut into the sides, and the bottom had white crystals.

I really was not expecting much but the nose exploded out of the glass as soon as I poured it.

Color was a deep golden to yellow, almost a light bourbon-amber.

Nose was filled with ripe papaya, honey, and something very reminiscent of trail mix (perhaps more of a dried tropical fruit note)

Palate was a good reflection of the nose with loads of honey and dried pineapple, with a surprising and noticeable acidity to semi-balance the expected sweetness.

Finish is unending with a nuttiness and with loads of the crushed wet pebble.

Nose:Eucalyptus, ripe dark fruit, blueberry pie, smoky leather. floral, fig.
Palate: Ripe cherry, sweet oak that comes through more with air, plum

Little bit of balancing acid to keep the wine balanced and not too heavy.

Some tannins but, mostly rounded off.

Medium-long finish with a bang.

Little too much oak and alcohol for my taste. But good for California.

Extremely fragrant and beautiful nose of flowers, sweet black cherries, licorice, suede, and something a little spicy.

Palate is kept fairly fresh even with the ripe fruit by a good balancing acid. Heat comes through a little but balances out with some air. Cherry and berry flavors along with some leather and sweet earth.

Mouthfeel is very elegant and medium-to full bodied with well structure tannins. Finish is fairly long.

Very good now, but may get even better as it softens with a few more years.

Nose immediately scream pinot with funk, tart red berries, rounded off with an almost pine sap fresh meat character. With some air, the florals become to come through with a hint of ashtray (in a good way?).

This is not a medium to lighter bodied pinot and leans more toward the elegant style. Very well balanced with acidity, green herb notes and tart berries.

I usually avoid California Pinots because they tend to be over-ripe and fruit bombs. But the green characteristics and the balance really surprised me.
