Finding this very elegant and fresh, and if anything a little herbal with bitter chocolate.

Drinking well upon opening. Loads of graphite & tar in the aromatics, and a little more interesting than their basic California Carignane. Stylish and restrained if a bit neutral at times.

Drinking well now. Tannins are super smooth, overall approachable and aromatic wine. Still a little more modern than i expected, but superb none the less.

Agree with some of the previous notes, that this is a larger & riper version than most Carlisle Zin's. Lots of prune, graphite and tar without the fresh fruit that i normally taste. Different vintage, oh well....this wine is what it is, which is a good pairing with a bleu cheese burger.

Rather elegant expression of Cabernet Franc. More strawberries and less tannins than some others in nearby regions.

Beautiful aromas but the palate with some funk, at least on this bottle, comes across a little flat and lacking acidity and verve. Slightly ripe in style, but a good pairing with pork ribs & BBQ sauce. Curious to try my other bottles.

Brown sugar and always a more reserved profile compared to some of the other offerings. Went very well with BBQ ribs. Consistent with previous vintages.

Typical aromas, with a lean & lighter style and not the most complexity. I may prefer this grape with a little more ripeness. Curious to try the other vintages of Sandlands. A bright summer red.

Aromatics are divine, with loads of underbrush and well balanced fruit this is one of the better bottles of Pinot Noir i have tried in recent memory. Really enjoy the rustic character.

Very nice. Cedar & leather in the aromatics with a now very smooth silky finish. Not as over done as some other 2005, i feel that this is drinking beautifully now and will last for some time. This was the 2005 i was hoping for when i purchased futures.

Flowers, freshwater and oak in the aromatics, and a crisp crunchy palate that is very much more in the style of Chablis. A great summer white without the weight & tropical character you can sometimes experience from California.

A softer more integrated approach that is very perfumed and easily ready to drink now. Paired with the first ribeye of the season this may be best with grilled pork. Even at this young age this is easily outstanding and tannins are very fine.

Agree with the saline character from the previous note.

Always well made, and in my opinion the best produced Norton in the USA. Yes, i would agree with the previous review that this comes across as a more fruit forward young California Cabernet, and it does lack the structure of that other grape, but it also isn't trying to be something that it's not, which is too often the case with California & some Bordeaux blends. Excellent aromas, density, mid palate and a finish that is rather minty. Great pairing with pork loin.

Plenty of life in this rather modern expression of Bordeaux. Tannins still somewhat rough and prevalent. Doesn't taste just over 15 years old.

Past prime. This is faded now. Also noticed that the producer is using very small cheapish corks, so clearly this wine is built for immediate consumption. Live & learn.

Bright spicy aromatics with a rich & tannic palate. This is a bit over extracted in my opinion, but this continues to work with food due to the acidity. Dunno, maybe give it another 5 years and see if it ages, but not very elegant at this time.

More extraction than previous vintages, which appears to be the style these days. Feel that this results in more of that hybrid character which some people may like, although i prefer the lighter style of years past. As always well made, and this reminds me of a tannic Cru Beaujolais.

I do believe i am the World Record winner for consuming the oldest bottle of wine from Iowa, from a non Iowa native.

Today this is tasting more like Porto. Still has balance but is best enjoyed in small quantities due to the alcohol content.

Sweet confection, scented candle & oak in the aromatics with a bland mid palate and somewhat herbal side to the finish. Feels like this was manufactured for the American west coast Pinot Noir palate. Haven't had a LJ Bourgogne in years, this is probably why.

Actually much better on days 2-3. Feel like the oak treatment fades away.
