Firstly, I spent some time deliberating over my score for this champagne (which I will explain in my notes). My score is based on the fact that currently this is excellent for such a youthful wine and I believe that there is excellent scope for improvement. I enjoyed this bottle of Lanson 2008 (gold label) and knew I would because I enjoy the house style. For me this vintage was great, it had an excellent, excitable mousse which smelt refreshing and enticed me in. The initial taste on the palate was very crisp and refreshing. The mid palate also had some structure and a strong flavour with energy. It reminded me of the 2004 (which I love). I also believe the bubbles were powerful and spread the flavour well. I greatly enjoyed drinking this wine. However, the finish (unsurprisingly) was not there, probably because the wine is so young. For me this was to be expected, but for some this might catch you out. Overall, this is a great showing from Lanson. It will definitely improve with time in the cellar. From research I know 2008 has been celebrated at least as a very good vintage, so I expect this to happen. Overall, this was a fantastic, youthful, fresh and exciting wine. There was absolutely no sweetness here and I disagree with the last few sentences of the existing comment on here so far. This Lanson IS exciting and there is no sweetness. Love it.

12/1/17, 1:50 AM - This was a very useful review thank you - I picked up a bottle of the '04 at a good price in a french Intermarche last year (live in the UK) and I was amazed at the depth and complexity for the money. It was up with Bollinger GA in my view. They currently have seasonal offers on in the UK where you can buy this '08 for about £26/$35 which I suspect is great value as well... I will pick up a half case!

couldn't resist opening first bottle.
Blackcurrant richness, good weight, and frankly a better bottle than most of the 2000 of same wine.
Balance too.
Reckon 10 years of life in this.

8/16/16, 7:53 AM - I got mine Friday... held off opening but tempted to try. I tried a 2nd bottle of the 2010 instead which is a massive wine and still needs a lot more time.

Dark purple in color. Nose is floral and current/jam. Tasted closed so ran through Venturi aerator which showed big improvement. Thick in body but the flavor is on the lighter more delicate side. Spice is prominent along with the jammy current in the nose. Peppery finish. Reminds me of a Zinfandel. Very good value. We didn't like in when purchased two cases 4-5 years ago. Now we only had 2 bottles left and wish we saved more.
