Memorable primarily for its great length and finish. My first experience with this producer.

True to form, the nose on this is all violets and flowers. Loved it. Acidic on the palate, full and robust. Not seeing the 96 point WS rating, but I don't have as much experience with Condrieu as others do.

The older i get the less i like the big in-your-face wines and the more i like wines like this grenache-syrah blend from Gigondas -- subtle fruits balanced with spice and lavender and licorice. Gigondas doesn't get nearly the attention that Chateauneuf du Pape gets, but is producing some incredible wines at good prices.

Very nice, soft tones, easily identified as primarily merlot. Located in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation on the Right Bank, this chateau is owned by the same family that owns Angelus. Great value at $22 a bottle.

This has the stuffing to last a while, but is drinking great. Long and powerful finish. Needs a bit of air to open up. Worth seeking out.

Drinking beautifully tonight. Silky smooth and integrated. Lots of fruit -- blueberry especially -- and hints of tar and tobacco on the nose. One more bottle remaining.

This was nice, but for me did not live up to the 94 WS rating. We opened it alongside the standard Seghesio Zin from the same vintage, and we all thought the regular cuvee bested it.

This was fantastic. First bottle of the night. At 7 years old, perfectly integrated. This bested a Seghesio old vine zin from the same vintage.

This was beautifully balanced. Nose of black olives and spice; no tannins to speak of on the palate. The weakness was in the finish, in my opinion. It felt flat to me. Could it be just exiting its dumb phase and entering its drinking window?

This Banyuls from Chapoutier was a crowd-pleaser after Thanksgiving dinner. Port-like, with more purple to the eye and more fruit on the palate. Having said that, i must admit that dessert wines are not my specialty, although I've had some vintage Ports, including a 1977 Dow, that were amazing.

If you're looking for some of the best pinot noir produced in the U.S., this has to be among the candidates. Great nose of cherry, perfect balance of fruit and velvet on the palate, and a long finish that makes you eager for the next sip.

Great bottle of wine for $10. Made from 100% Negroamaro grapes from southern Italy -- the heel of the boot, to be precise. Subtle and nuanced, with fruit, acidity and mild tannins. When you find a bottle like this for $10, it make you question the need to purchase wines at 5 and 10 times the price.

To me, this vintage from Marquis d'Alesme was thin in its youth, and certainly taught me the value of giving good Bordeaux time to grow and evolve. Eight years, even 10 years, into this vintage were inadequate.

This followed a 2005 Bordeaux and demonstrated the vast contrast of styles in two regions only 350 miles apart. This CDP was loaded with black pepper, pencil lead, and spice. I loved them both, although the CDP needs a little more time in the bottle.

Dark and dense blend of Grenache and Syrah, drinking beautifully. Blackberry, tobacco, coffee and mocha on the nose. Just the right level of tang and tannin on the palate. This is a bold wine, and one that is not to be trifled with in its younger years.

At $10, this has to be one of the best values on the market right now. Loaded with cherry fruit, yet not overpowering. Silky texture. Lovely finish. 100% Monastrell from an 88-acre vineyard in DO Alicante. 50,000 bottles made.

I was not impressed with this wine tonight, but i think it's simply too young. Great bouquet in the glass, but on the palate the wine seemed confused and displayed a bitter finish. After 30 minutes in the decanter, it improved measurably. The experts say this wine is not ready, and they are right. 74% merlot, 22% cabernet franc, 4% cabernet sauvignon
