Classic old style Bordeaux, with some influence of the recent warmer climate. Refined yet powerful structure. Still young, a classic, as most of the 2006's are.

Disappointing as this is one of NZ's best reds. Was musty on the palate and nose. Perhaps slightly faulty. Rich sweet, dark plum and blackberry. Mid length palate, lots of oak. Just not very pleasant.

I'm afraid this was not a great wine. It had a slightly bitter finish. Leather and strawberry. Quite sweet, medium body and alcohol. Medium finish.
Don't think the bitter finish will resolve .... perhaps just a bottle variation? I doubt it.

Quite nice, with some rustic notes, slightly warm fuzzy, musty notes on the palate - not entirely clean. Raspberry, red fruit flavours, quite light weight, mid length, slight complexity and refined oak.

Classic 1995 Bordeaux, soft, drinking perfectly, tertiary notes (leather) but lots of primary fruit. This is in its prime drinking window and will go on for years. It is quite full bodied, silky generous fruit, very typical GPL. Still plenty of structure to provide grip and interest.

What's not to like? It's certainly a classic Cali Cab: big and rich, ripe sweet fruit, developing good depth and complexity. Flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, Cassis, menthol (quite strong but nice), vanilla and cinnamon oak spice and notes of saddle leather.... so why not give it a higher score? Because the finish is slightly astringent, which one finds with some Cali cabs, Corrison is another example.... I think it is those seeking greater acidity... or perhaps a little too much skin contact... thoughts? I think it is the former but in this case I don't really understand it as the fruit is clearly very ripe.

Just gorgeous oregon Pinot! big perfume of roses and raspberry - very lifted. Medium+ body, good mouthfeel and grip: medium+acidity. Alcohol: medium. Long finish - a real delight to drink and savour. some savoury, underbrush, oregano notes coming through the gorgeous fruit driven palate. So much more pleasant to drink than burgundy - less astringent, though perhaps without the complexity or multi-layered depth - but simple great pleasure!

Simply wow!
Acidity still high, classic Chenin. Med+ body. Alc med. Length v long
Demi-sec
Gorgeous... complex flavours pineapple, lime, lemon, tangerine.
Botrytis: apricot and tangerine but not pronounced...
Drinking well, but will continue to evolve positively for many years.

Wonderful farm yard at the same time as pure fruit. Acidity still too high for me. But there is an underlying sweetness.... think acidity will soften in 20 years....
Black forest fruit with that pinot nose of musky raspberry compote
95 points nose, 89 palate.

A personal preference but not a wine I like, though now quite fashionable. Its more reminiscent of sherry than normal wine and is clearly made under Flor, or Voile as called in France. Acidity is high but not as high as one would expect from a Vin Jaune. Made with the Savagnin (Blanc?) grape. High acidity, quite full bodied, strong flavoured - nutty and strong lemon driven citrus fruit. Acetaldehyde from the Flor. long piercing finish that sears its flavour into the tongue - the first time I wished for a shorter finish !

A really classy and very classic old school Rioja - by which I mean it displays the slightly oxidative style associated with old school Rioja (produced by deliberately passing the wine through the air when racking. This is an elegant style of wine (medium or medium + acidity, body and alcohol). red and sour cherries that are typical of Rioja (rather than the black fruit of Ribeira). Tertiary notes are developed for a red wine of this age: leather, damp earth, forest floor. Accompanied by a certain mellow cedar and cinnamon spiciness from the oak.

Wow! Could be an orange wine, slightly oxidative but lots of American oak... rich vanilla and cinnamon spice & mixed spice. Apricot and candied peel. Clementines.
Sweet baked banana. Not a heavy wine, almost elegant, medium body, medium alcohol and acidity.
long haunting finish.
Definitely young

Petrol and Grapefruit. V slight sweetness but this is dry, wouldn't want it drier. Rich complex. Acidity med +. Quite textured full mouthful. Alc med. Body med+
Almost tropical fruit ... melon, pineapple, kiwi, passion fruit....
Long finish
I believe this will continue to age beneficially and develop more complexity for a long time (10+ years) yet.

Absolutely superb! a wonderful combination of pure aromatic raspberry and roses on the nose, same on the palate with added foundation of underbrush. The tannin and acidity structure is perfectly judged. This has the structure to age well and will probably become more Burgundian with age. Right now it's more primary fruit driven. Gorgeous.

A big wow on the initial attack - but then continues to get even better on the mid palate and has a hugely long finish. A real pleasure to drink this wine. Structure is still very fruit driven though tertiary notes just beginning to develop. It provides a huge mouthful of sweet ripe fruit but with multiple layers of flavour: damson, kirsch, blackcurrant, blackberry all roll around the mouth. Perfect to drink now but with plenty of years left in it. Tannin is there and is ripe fine and never anything more than firm. Good acidity as well to provide balance - though the fruit is so big some would prefer greater "elegance" - but not me! Gorgeous as it is.

Wow! Huge rich aromatic palate. It hits the palate with a huge wow. There is plenty of depth here as well, lots of the earthy notes that come with a little age, though this is still very much primary fruit driven. Tannin is ripe and easy drinking and fine, acidity probably a little low. Doubt this has the structure to age much longer but is certainly en-point right now. After all this is there entry level wine. For the quality this is a steal. Great stuff!

The age helps this very average Bordeaux. Along with most Bordeaux outside of the classed growths the structure is quite austere and hard. There is reasonable fruit but the tannin and acidity dominate. Drinking now but will last longer due to its robust structure.

Classic tar and floral aromas on the nose but with a bigger richer presence of sweet ripe fruit than most Barolos. Blackberry damson. Really zingy tannin and acidity. Med + bod and alc. Long long finish and sooo complex.

Quite evolved as is the style with classic Rioja. Still zingy tannin and acidity. Complex earthy gamey leather. Classic Rioja. Not the most dense of Rioja Alta's wines - lacks weight.

Restrained nose, lemon, peach, lime, almond, honey. Good acidity giving a mineral edge to the wine. This is still young and taut - the structure will give longevity. Medium body, alcohol, long finish and good complexity already. This is a great wine.

Big rich nose and palate of vanilla, lime, pineapple and ripe peach but balanced with good acidity. Also almonds and fresh apricot. Very good. Personally I don't think this will improve and the acidity is not strong enough, so drink up and enjoy now.

Very lifted aromatic nose, with perfume of roses, raspberry and strawberry. Quite rich, sweet and ripe on the palate - delicious!. Medium body, zingy acidity, with a medium plus finish and moderate complexity. In addition to the primary fruits noted on the nose, there are some tertiary notes of bramble, forest floor and farmyard.

This has the very polished style of Domaine Serene, blind I would have guessed Paul Hobbs as the winery, such is the polish and balance. Great aromatic perfumed raspberry and black cherry fruit - very much West Coast - gorgeous drinking on its own and pretty good with food. Very fine tannins, acidity medium and well balanced. This is still young, tertiary elements just beginning to evolve. good but not long finish, with moderate complexity, which holds it back from a higher score. Would be interesting to see how it goes from here - will the tertiaries and complexity improve and the fruit hold? AW crew seem to only give this a relatively short life....

Very good fruit and showing tertiary characters of game, adding to the complexity. Soft fine tannins, nice acidity but this is primarily a fruit driven wine. Very nice indeed without being outstanding.
