A fascinating combination of fruit and oxidative notes. Medium + acidity, accentuated by the oxidative element. Ripe fine quite light tannins, mid weight body and alcohol, though it is 13.5%, so either overstated or the nature of the wine integrates the alcohol really well.
Fruit notes are: blackberry, damson, morello and sour cherry, with a hint of sharp red-currant. I think the fruit will fade so would drink now - but I am no expert on traditional Rioja's.
Overall an interesting rather than instantly appealing wine.

Wow! A complete surprise, really stunning. Just reminded me of Rayas. I have drunk and enjoyed Clos des Papes on many occasions and thoroughly enjoyed every bottles - without being wowed. This was different. As I opened it I was worried that it may be a little tired and past its best - absolutely not! The wine sang from the first sip through to the end. A really great wine. This has all the weight, richness and sweet fruit (damson, raspberry, strawberry) that one would expect but accompanied by a kind of ethereal luminosity and power that I have never seen from this producer before but did experience with a Rayas 2007 a year or so ago. This character is also similar to my experiences with Giacosa, different grape but same mix of lifted elegance power and fruit. It is complex and long. drinking perfectly now but I suspect it will go on for many years.

Nice old claret from magnum, was expecting it to be less developed, given the format but this is beginning to dry out now. I would avoid single bottle format. Drink up.

Good without being great. Typical good quality US cab, not really compelling.

Expected to love this wine but found it surprisingly dried out for such a young wine. Rich and sweet attack but faded on the mid and finish. . Surprised and disappointed..... faulty?

Rich dark fruit. Classic Meo silky fruit driven style. Sweetness behind the acidity of Burgundy. Profound depth and length..... I simply don't like the Burgundian style. Too much acidity, too little fruit. If you do like Burgundy you'll love this wine.

Wow! Pure class !
Pure silky plush, without being overdone. Very special. Perfect balance of fruit and structure. Violets, bluberry, blackcurrant. Acid high but covered in fruit. Tannins super fine. The score will increase as this ages.

Great wine, big and rich but with a wonderful taughtness of both acidity and tannin. Young but has the tertiary notes of Brunello, leather and underbrush. Also a sangiovese spiciness. Delicious, mouth coating, long and young. I'm thinking prime time in 5 years.

Amazingly powerful flavour profile, also high alcohol. Really rich flavours which belie this being a pinot - unique! mix of stewed fruit, marmite and wood. Loaded with glycerin - giving a very full mouthfeel.

Really good, distinctly Burgundian on the palate with good acidity and a rustic palate of red cherry and forest floor. Slightly sweeter and more plush than I was expected but this is a youthful wine. Very enjoyable.

Superb! really plush, sweet honeyed finish on this knock-out Cali Chard. Really top draw. Good acidity without being obtrusive. Lemon, white peach and cream crackers. Delicious! Long finish. Great now, will develop more complexity.

This has a huge structure, big tannin and acidity, with a generous fruit cloak. Plush and luxurious. Right now I think some of the youthful fruit has subsided but the structure has not yet softened, leaving it a little tough to drink right now. I am pretty sure this will mature into a very special wine - but needs lots of time. Blackberry, black cherry and underbrush, with a mere hint of tertiary saddle, accompanied by cake mixed spices.

Definitely not my thing stylistically. This is a really jammy fruit bomb style. It is over-sweet, over-extracted. Big rich mouthfeel, similar to Peter Michael. Acidity either low or totally swamped by the fruit.

Great balance of ripe fruit and acidity. The acidity is good but not high, apparently it did not go through Malo. On the palate there is butter and white peach, though overall is quite restrained. This is not a big rich ripe new world Chard. It is more like a burgundy. Very nice.

Stunning pinot, has richness and sweetness without being overdone, has Burgundy-esque notes of sour cherry (don't worry it's not sour). predominantly red fruit. fine tannin and plenty of acidity, with the fruit to carry it - wonderful balance. Long finish. Has years left yet but is wonderful now.

Simply wonderful. An almost perfect blend of old and new World. Reminds me Domaine de la Cote from California - but I think is a little more generous in style, though definitely has elements of the Burgundian style. This has plenty of acidity and tannin structure to hold the interest, but with a ripe fruit overlay that marks this out as New World. Gorgeous raspberry and sour cherry on the plush palate. complexity building and already has a long finish.
I suspect that as it ages this will become more Burgundian, increase in complexity and will experience a slow slide away of the generous fruit it still displays today. So pick you moment but very very attractive now.

Gorgeous classic big bodied Cali chardonnay. Rich butter and new baked bread, yellow apple and peach, lovely salinity. Acidity good. Showing signs of age, slight oxidative notes. Will it go down hill or endure and become more interesting? I don't know. Certainly ready to drink now and for me would be a risk to keep it longer - but why not forget a bottle for another 15 years and then see. Long finish but lacks the complexity for a higher score.

Big but not hefty, great fruit coverage over a very classic and elegant structure. brought to mind a Monte Bello 96. Is ready to go now but has the structure to last longer. Personally I like a wine to have a good fruit cover, which this does not, would be a little concerned taht the fruit may not endure, judging by Rioja's I have drunk.

Gorgeous. This wine flirts with perfection and would get there with greater depth and complexity. In any case it is simply gorgeous, somewhere between a Giacosa and Sandrone style-wise.
Very classic Barolo in many ways but with great fruit, rich and sweet. Loads of depth and complexity. Red fruits mixed with caramelised apple and pear. Also notes of light tar and roses.
Already drinking well. Personally I like good fruit in a wine and I am concerned that the fruit may not last so would recommend drinking it now.

Nice wine. Quite weighty, nice body and mouthfeel. Honey and lemon notes, slightly oxidative, which for me detracts - but not overly so. It is a light orange in colour. Acidity medium +
Doubt if it will age.

This is big deep and profound and beginning to drink well. Though quite muscular and generously bodied this is not overdone at all - really delicious. Black fruits and charred oak and tar lead to a sweet finish. Tertiary notes or leather emerging. This has the structure and fruit to go on for a long time yet.

Fresh yellow appearance, showing no signs of ageing, which is a relief as the Beaucastel Rousanne really does not last this long. Nose of floral honeysuckle. Rich and full bodied on the palate, sweet finish of lemon and honey - delicious. Stone fruits: peach and apricot, long finish. Acidity only medium, though could be cloaked by the weight of fruit. slight oak tannin grip in the background. This will continue to evolve for some time years yet, no need to rush to drink.

Very ripe, slightly over-sweet for my palate. Fruit driven: raspberry leads with blackberry behind. Warm alcohol (13%). Touch of farmyard. would be interesting to see how this matures and whether the fruit will recede and the farmyard and acidity increase to give it a more Burgundian feel. Personally I doubt it. The acidity, though masked by fruit, did not seem very high. soft ripe tanins. Mediums finish not much complexity.

An example of how modern big style Rioja ages? This was definitely past its best - no longer had any clarity of fruit - had a very rustic, dirty, earthy palate. Wine itself was cloudy, but had been resting for several days. Tobacco and leather dominate the palate. Underlying structure of acidity and tannin still there, though undoubtedly softened with age. Had clearly once been a big rich wine and still was in some ways but large fruit kick that comes with such wines was past it. medium to short finish, some complexity.

This is quite a wine, clearly a more modern Rioja but with that classic tobacco and dryness one expects of Rioja. Blackberry and blueberry fruit, quite earthy. Easy to drink reasonable fruit though dryness beginning to dominate, so drinking window is a stylistic choice.
