Pale garnet. A little accelerated in ageing for a 6 year old wine. Characteristic spicy nose with lovely black fruit. Some stemminess remains but this wine has otherwise already opened up and is drinking nicely. Nice long finish to end a very enjoyable wine. Now till 2024.

9/23/22, 5:51 AM - Thanks for taking the time to comment. My point system may be different from yours. How I rate wines is in my Bio. The close system marking used by JS, WS or RP is too narrow for me. One should use the full range of a 100 point system. Its would have been an outstanding wine by my system, except it got marked down because of the accelerated ageing. Peace. 🙏

    My Point System:
    90-100 exceptional.
81-89 outstanding but just lacking that little extra
    71-80 good. Worth a repurchase
61-70 average. May buy again if price is right
    51-60 passable. Wont buy again.

Decanted 2 hours before meal. Medium tawny. Restrained cassis and mint. Well structured balance between the elements. Not as exuberant as one would expect from others' tasting notes. Medium finish.
Overall impression is either premature bottle ageing or a wine that's already currently drinking. Losing its seductive youth but a fine, elegant lady nonetheless. Marked down for maturing too early. Needs retasting to confirm.

2/11/20, 5:07 PM - Hi there, thanks for the comment.
It all boils down to the points system one uses. I believe the clustering of points too closely in a 100 point system leaves it difficult to distinguish quality. So my own system (in my bio) is :
    90-100 exceptional.
81-89 outstanding but just lacking that little extra
    71-80 good. Worth a repurchase
61-70 average. May buy again if price is right
    51-60 passable. Wont buy again.

    Hope you understand :-)
    And thanks for commenting!

Tile brown. Underwhelming nose. Occasional whiffs of greatness Fruit mainly faded from palate. Charmless. Dying fast. Drink or dump. DT/JL/Jude @ NewUbin USD$82

Karen's Birthday (The Straits Wine Company @ UE Square): Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of light toasted oak, light white flowers, steely minerality, and citrusy lime. Developing.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium alcohol, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of honey, lemon-lime, pomelo-flesh, and steely minerality. Long finish.
Good quality. Now my gripe - what is lacking here is the ripe tropical fruits and apricot flavours, and also the aromatic floral scents.
My guess is that we drank this way too young (true), and also because of the rainy dilute 2008 vintage. Impressive acidity for a Viognier though. Will be interesting to re-explore and give this another chance in 3-5 years' time.

9/4/18, 9:46 AM - Nice review but isnt the point of Grillet about being subtle and restrained? If more power is what u need I'd humbly suggest a Coindreau. ☺

Robe rather paler than I expected. Opened well both on palate and nose. Silky soft and supple. Typical large berry and plum pinot flavors on palate. Hints of fading fruit and acid suggest the wine is past peak already. Nothing overly complex. Shortish finish. Not bad but not spectacular. Drink up. Now till end 2018.
Would I buy again? Yes but not at this price level (USD $45).

10/16/17, 5:49 PM - Yes it was a 2014. Hopefully it was bottle variation. I have a few more bottles to open :(
But the bottle i tasted didnt look like it had much more than 1-2 years left. Cheers buddy

Plummy, young colors.
Spicy pepperminty, nose grabs you in rather uncharacteristic Bordeaux fashion.
Lightweight palate with a fair amount of mixed berry-type ripe fruit and acid. Tannic cloak unveiling.Good for another 24 months.

2/2/17, 6:09 AM - Sorry about the point score. Thanks for pointing it out :-)
Was using my mobile app and the software slider isn't that finely tuned. Have readjusted the score. Score is based on current tasting assessment. The wine isnt ready and should be re-scored when allowed to mature a little more.
The lightweight palate was what dragged the score down since this isnt likely to improve with time.
