1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon Champagne Blend
This was found in a supermarket shelf in 2008 and was priced near the going rate at the time for more recent vintages. I think around €130. Obviously always a bit worrying when you source wine in this manner but I think Champagne is a bit more robust. The label got scuffed from dragging it in and out of the Eurocave over the years. Pale gold in colour. Ripe fruit, ripe red apple and pear with secondary aromas of caramel. Medium acidity. Low alcohol at 12.5% vol.

Surprisingly youthful, Should not have been worried about its initial storage. Secondary aromas became more pronounced as it warmed up in the glass. Delighted I took the risk on the purchase when I did. Not to sure I would pay the premium for this excellent vintage now. Great experience though.

flawed
Unfortunately, corked... Really disappointing. Looks like its a common problem with this bottle, buyers beware.

11/28/10, 10:01 AM - When I was at Chateau in August 2009 I told them that I had a few bottles left from a case of 1996. They told me about the issues they had with the corks for the 1996 vintage and that there was a significant number of failures with the closure. I have only one bottle left but luckily only one flawed so far.

2001 Château Rieussec Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend
Wine Pages Belfast Offline (Deanes Restaurant, Belfast, Northern Ireland): Yellow gold in colour. Thick, concentrated, sweet yet great balance from the acidity. A hugh life ahead of it. Showed better than the last bottle. I need to forget about the other bottles now for at least 10 years!
