Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, dark fruit - blackberry and cassis, graphite, dark earth, and floral undertones - lavender. Palate: Medium-full bodied, great structure and balance, spicy dark fruit attack, nice mid-palate lift made more interesting with the appearance of earthiness which balances well with the luscious dark fruit, the flavors mesh perfectly in the back-end and linger through a lengthy 45-60 second finish. This wine shows amazing balance and wonderful, but slightly subtle, flavoring. Evolved wonderfully over two days, drink now with a bit of air.

Palate: Medium bodied, subdued red fruit attack, smooth edges, low acid, good mid-palate persistence, leather and earthy notes in the back-end. Finish: Lengthy 45-60 seconds dominated by spicy dark fruit and earth.

Pop and pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, red fruit - cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, rock candy, smoke, with floral notes - rose. Palate: Medium-full bodied, ripe red fruit attack - cherry and cranberry, spicy mid-palate lift, fruit turns tart in the back-end. Finish: Medium length dominated by tart red fruit and spice. Big for a pinot, starts nicely but kind of falls apart in the back-end. Definitely expected more based upon the pedigree.

**UPDATE**
Two days later after vacuvining and refrigerating the remaining 1/3 of the bottle. This has balanced out wonderfully, the up front ripe fruitiness has mellowed and the back-end tartness has subdued. This has transformed over 2 days from a disjointed Cali fruit bomb into a balanced pinot reminiscent of fine Burgundy. Bumped from 89 to 90+.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, dark fruit - cassis and blackberry, pencil lead, black pepper, and lavender. Palate: Medium bodied, dark fruit and black pepper attack, chewy tannins, good mid-palate persistence, subtle tobacco notes appear in the back-end. Finish: Medium-plus length dominated by tart dark fruit, black pepper, and tobacco.

Based upon previous notes, I'm wondering if I've missed something here. While I believe this has the stuffing to evolve into an outstanding wine it came across as too unpolished to warrant a higher score.

Palate: Medium bodied, spicy red fruit attack, solid acidic back-bone, fruit turns tart in the back-end where earthy notes join in. Finish: Medium-plus length, dominated by tart red fruit witch tobacco and leather undertones. Starts strong but the back-end tartness is almost overpowering, still enjoyable though.

Consumed over 3 days, vacuvined and refrigerated, note from day 3. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, classic cabernet characteristics - earthy dark fruit - black cherry, blackberry, and plum with eucalyptus and tobacco. Palate: full bodied, dark fruit attack with subtle tobacco and leather undertones thru the mid-palate though surprisingly thin, tobacco, leather, and spicy notes dominate the back-end. Finish: Medium length, 30-45 seconds, showing dark fruit - blackberry and plum, leather, and spice. The mid-palate thinness, typical of many Sonoma cabernets from my experience, slightly detracts from an otherwise exceptional experience here.

Cellared since purchasing 2 bottles in 2009, pop and pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Highly expressive, ripe black raspberry and cherry, lavender, red licorice, and rocky soil - very intriguing. Palate: Medium-full bodied, spicy red fruit - cherry & raspberry attack with blue fruit - blueberry undertones, spice and red licorice driven mid-palate lift, great balance, still very youthful, mineral notes appear in the back-end. Finish: Lengthy, 45-60 seconds, showing spicy red berries with a not so subtle mineral back-bone. This is drinking fantastic at the moment and should continue to for at least 2-4 years.

Palate: Medium bodied, sweet pear attack, mineral driven back-bone shows through the mid-palate, medium acid, tart citrus dominates the back-end. Palate: Medium bodied, tart dark red fruit attack, grippy tanins, very rustic, solid acidic back-bone, black olives and spice in the back-end. Finish: Medium length dominated by tart red fruit and rusty earth. It's got character but coming across as a little to harsh for my palate this evening, probably could have used some food.

Consumed over 2 days, vacuvined and refrigerated, note from day 2. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, dark fruit compote blend - blackberry, black cherry, and black raspberry with sweet tobacco, shoe polish and green olive undertones - very interesting. Palate: Full bodied, ripe dark fruit and spice attack, black olive and dark earth notes appear mid-palate, just a little heat from the 15.4% abv shows toward the back-end - doesn't really distract from the overall goodness though. Finish: Lengthy 45-60 seconds dominated by ripe dark fruit, spice, and dark earth. Full throttled, but delicious!

My 2nd of 3 bottles, first consumed in March of 2013, pop and pour - consumed over 2 hours. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, rust, bright red fruit - cherry - with dark fruit undertones, leather and tobacco notes - very Barolo like on the nose. Palate: Medium-full bodied, ripe red and dark fruit attack, spice driven mid-palate lift, soft (not Barolo like) but gritty tannins with earthy notes in the back-end. Finish: Medium-plus length dominated by ripe dark red fruit and earthiness. This has evolved wonderfully in the 6 years since I last tasted with the palate rounding out very nicely. Drink now or within the next 2-3 years.

Palate: Medium-full bodied, slightly tart red fruit - cranberry and boysenberry - attack, mid-palate spice lift, excellent balance and mouth-feel, surprisingly smooth edges, slightly gritty tannins, fruit persists nicely thru the back-end where earthy notes join and persist thru a lengthy 45-60 second finish. This wine impresses with it's clean and smooth mouth-feel despite the slightly tart fruit which persists from front to back. An excellent example of what Carignan can be, rivals some of the best from the Priorat.
