Extraordinary and complex, but still very tight. Needed a good 6 hours before it opened.

I take my last note back. This is still very good indeed. Dark and minerally, with lashings of fruit. Thank goodness for screwcaps!

Fruity, but fading. Tannins all but gone, but held together with some remaining acidity.

Austere, yet elegant. A little green. Very slow to open - could take another decade easily. Tomato, tobacco, cocoa.

Cassis and graphite nose. Smooth palate with fine tannin. Elegant. Needs more complexity to be really great. Still some life in it.

Drinking fantastically. Big in all dimensions, and still dense with tannin. Be interested to see where this goes over the next decade.

The Australian Brunello? Perhaps not, but still very good. More fruit than the Italian iterations of the grape, but still a rich savoury base. Nose of plum, cedar and olive. Medium bodied. Soft tannins. Slight black tea bitterness. All in all, very good. Medium term aging prospect - another 6-8 years at most, probably at peak in another 2-4.

Classic Aussie chardonnay nose of nectarine, cashew and lemon. Big palate. Tart crisp acidity, with oak a retiring background presence. Layer upon layer of fruit with only the slightest of MLF butteriness. Well-structured and tight.

Really very good. A little reticent on the nose. Red berries, cedar and a touch of pepper. But the palate is out of this world. Unbelievably juicy. Mouthwateringly acidic, with lush rich fruit. Still plenty of tannins. Long finish.

A merlot-heavy Bordeaux blend like some kind of deranged Antipodean Saint-Emilion. The nose is redolent of plum, laced with capsicum and tomato. The palate is young, soft and fruity with soft tannins. Despite its apparent gentleness, there is a rigid structure here, albeit buried. The impression is of a wine that is tough, but softly spoken, like Clint Eastwood in a Western. It won't make old bones, but it will improve over the next 3-5 years.

Delightful Riesling very much cut from the Teutonic cloth. Nose of lime, bath salts and green apple. Slight florals. Very much on the dry side of off-dry with mouthwatering acidity. Very clean and very refreshing. Long life ahead of it.

My first HoG. Reminded me very much of a 1990 Grange I had last year. Very very deifferent to the Bordeaux and Quintet I was drinking it with. Still very primary, and showing a lot of vanillin oak on the nose, along with strawberry and eucalyptus. Quite sweet on the palate with spicy fruit and again that eucalyptus. Surprisingly light bodied, but with a powerful finish. Very interesting wine, and opened up well. Drink now, or come back in 5-10 years.

Classy Aussie Bordeaux blend. Stood up very well side to side with the 1983 Chateau Palmer, and perhaps that bottle only beat it because of 16 years more age. Funky bretty chicken poop notes at first blew off within the first 15 minutes, revealing savoury fruit, leather and caramel. Faultlessly balanced with silky tannin structure. Built for the long haul.

Extraordinarily good wine. Rich nose of fruit, coffee, spice, caramel, truffle and pepper. Silky smooth carressing palate. I can't believ how much elegance and grace this wine possesses. On plateau, but who knows where this will be in 5 years?

Right on peak. Drinking beautifully now, but fell over after a few hours. Intoxicating nose with plenty of secondary characters coming through - sour cherry, leather, soy sauce and funk. Gutsy full-bodied palate that screams out to be drank with red meat. Very satisfying.

Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, liquorice and a slight mustiness. Incredible depth on the palate, with layer upon layer unfolding over time. Opened in the glass to display cherry, chocolate and old leather.Incredibly dense. Lovely, and at plateau.
